As a result of my experience with helping others it has helped me gain knowledge and the skills necessary it also has came a long way for me to realize that I love to help others when I can. I have always been very sociable and good at giving advice. That's why I decided that I want to major in Psychology. Growing up I had a psychologist who helped me deal with my problems. That's what inspired me and motivated me to want to help others. An experience I've had is volunteering at an elderly nursing home that is located at 1135 N Leisure Ct, Anaheim, CA 92801. Volunteering there has helped me realize that I would like to help make a change in others lives with their living and health. The people I met at the nursing
I am currently volunteering at Atlantic Care Hospital, I have learned a lot ever since I began volunteering from November. During volunteering I meet different people, I talk to them and have learned new things from them. I stay after school very thursday and help tutor for math. During and immediately after my undergraduate course, I had the opportunity to work as a volunteer at the American Counseling Association and as a houseparent for an institution that houses mentally ill individuals. The association welcomes students and encourages them to offer voluntary services while they have an opportunity. My experience at the association, as a houseparent, and currently as a paraprofessional for mentally ill adults and children with behavioral problems provided me with a solid footing as well as the necessary resources to prepare for my career in counseling. The experiences gave me an opportunity to attend several conferences and workshops where I had the chance to meet and interact with other professional counselors. These opportunities opened me up and exposed me to numerous challenging situations that helped me to grow both personally and professionally. Interacting with more qualified and experienced people in the association, institution for the mentally ill, and agency that I currently work for has helped me to develop confidence in my work as I sought their assistance and guidance whenever I needed help. The experiences gained while working at the association was helpful to me as I could apply that knowledge and the skills learnt to help my church members. At my church, I was a youth leader and
What has attracted you to the helping professions? Who in your life has influenced your decision to consider this role for yourself? I have always had a love for helping others. I first heard about social work through a friend. I began doing lots of research on this helping profession to get a better understanding. I found that Social Workers are responsible for helping individuals, families, and groups of people cope with problems and improve their lives. I also enjoy helping others in a time a need so social work matched some of my qualities perfectly.
Volunteering gives me the opportunity to be there for someone and to change people’s lives including my own. Volunteering to me is a way of giving back to the community or someone in need of help. For as long as I can remember I have always had the passion for helping people especially children and the aged, thus my interest in nursing. Any opportunity to perform an act of kindness made me happy that at least I could be of help to someone. From taking care of my siblings and cousins, babysitting, helping friends and among others. Of the many goals I have in life the most important one is to provide help to those in need through my commitment of service. I volunteered at a daycare school closer to me and
After conducting researches on both Principal Financial Group and New York Life Insurance Company, I would be more likely to choose to work at Principal Financial Group. Both companies have strong background. Also, the products (insurance, investment, retirement solution) and services they provide for their customer are almost similar. Two companies, Principal and New York Life help individuals to create a plan that is the best fit for each person and design to be achievable and effective. In addition, it is appeal to me that both companies value and respect their employees. New York Life have a diversity environment and provide training programs for their agents. On the other hand, Principal not only value their employees, but
Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or only do it because they have to meet the minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat second nature to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as freshman year, in high school, I found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school, where I came across the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly because
I volunteered taking care of children, at a recreation center, where parents couldn’t afford expensive day care. I spent time at feral cat clinics to help reduce the overpopulation of cats. I began volunteering at three square and placing applications to help hospitals and soon plan to spend time with soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Through my community service I learned to communicate better, take on leadership roles and earned life changing opportunities along the way. Through volunteering I grew as a person, I matured, learned responsibility, and realized what I wanted to do with my life.
I like to work with people and help others. That is one reason why I joined Interact and want to be a part of the National Honor Society. It also one of the reasons why I want to work in the medical field--to help others. I have done service projects with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Interact. With my church I have helped out the bazaars, fish frys, garden clean up, decorating the church, tailgate parties, and many other things.
At a young age I discovered a passion for helping others and I have continued to be passionate about serving my community since then. At the age of eight years old I began the first year of what would soon be my ten year membership of 4-H. Through that program and my church’s youth group I truly began to understand what selfless service was all about. I first began helping others by walking dogs at the local shelter and helping my 4-H club clean the sides of the highways. I later was able to experience several mission trips that opened my eyes to the larger aspect of service. My love for helping people continued to grow as I got older and I continued to find ways to make a difference. One of my favorite experiences was getting to help cook and serve a meal at a homeless
I have always been energized by helping and connecting with people. Growing up, I wanted to be at the counter helping when my mom baked, I followed my dad around the driveway helping him perfectly polish the car tires, I was president of the club that gave tours and support to new students in high school, and in college I worked as a Botany lab tutor using varied teaching techniques to help students understand class concepts. When I started planning my career, I knew it would need to involve forming helping relationships combined with my enthusiasm for teaching. This led me logically to serving in the Peace Corps followed by completing two years in AmeriCorps.

I am enrolled in your APCE 617 Play Therapy Practicum this spring. I applied for APPIC internships this year and recently finalized the sites to which I have an interview. Due to the dates and time some of my interviews occur, I have to miss class January 10th and 11th (interview in Phoenix) and January 17th and 18th (interview in Wisconsin). Let me know if I need to do anything to make up this time or if there are any special arrangements I need to make. I might be able to make class on January 11th depending on if my flight from Phoenix is running on time. I am sorry to send this so soon before the course begins, I just found out about the last interview and finalized arrangements this week. Let me know if you have any questions

From this experience volunteering I will hopefully be able to continue tutoring or helping students who are struggling in school. I am going to remember this experience when I am a teacher and be able to pay more attention to the students who are struggling and try my hardest to make sure that no one falls too far behind. I will also make sure that all my students get the help that they need in order to succeed. Overall this experience has taught me a lot and enlightened me with new perspectives from where people come from and their home
