As a musician myself, Karl Paulnack’s Welcome Address touched my heart. I may not be a music major, but I empathize with his beliefs on the importance of music. Like Paulnack, I have also experienced conflict between myself and the influence regarding my goals. Unlike Paulnack, the force discouraging me from pursuing my goals was not my family or society, but my own self. I’ve wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember. Helping people is something I feel strongly about, and is something I want to do for the rest of my life. As college drew closer and closer, the doubts about my chosen major were beginning to set in. What if I didn’t have what it takes to be a good nurse? What if I wasn’t capable or smart enough? What if I didn’t have the right personality? Talking to other people about my future career was a fantastic way to deal with my doubts. To me, nothing feels better or is more reassuring than hearing “I can see you doing that” after …show more content…
For some people it means a change in routine. For others it means a change in diet or lifestyle. For me personally, it means a change in mindset. Any way you look at it, people who are looking to be happier want to change something. Bringing about change is not as easy as it sounds. Changing your mindset is particularly difficult. Happiness isn’t as simple as waking up one day and deciding you want to be happy. It takes diligence and work and a good support system. Surrounding yourself with positive people, which is sometimes hard to do, is a great way to change your mindset. With enough time and effort, I believe anything can be changed for the better. That applies to more than just personal happiness, too. The power of a group of people who come together to bring about change is a force to be reckoned with. Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi and other revolutionary leaders wouldn’t have been to accomplish what they did without people supporting
Throughout the reading this week, the information presented in David Elliott and Bennett Reimer’s texts stressed the importance of music and more specifically, music education. “People everywhere find music rewarding, and everywhere we find people engaged in formal and non-formal efforts to teach and learn music.” (Elliott, 2014, p. 4)
“How many things have to happen to you,” Robert Frost Writes, “before something occurs to you?” A person wakes up every morning to the same gray walls and eats the same flavorless slop. Seeing no changes they seem to ask themselves if life is worth living. They are unhappy but are afraid of new environments and unknown areas. Wishing things can go back to when their worries were as simple as trying to memorize the multiplication tables. Although it is written that change is in every person’s destiny, there are several reasons a person might or might not seek out change. For instance, a person’s environment or way of living can be one of the hardest things to change. Living in the projects, bills to pay and people to obey are a few reasons many steer away from change. Secondly unexpected life events like suddenly having to become a parent and learning how to raise a baby while trying to balance sudden deaths that may occur. Thirdly, discovering a person’s true emotions for another human being can create what I like to call a domino effect. Whether you consider the environment to be the atmosphere around you or the place to which a person calls home, one thing is certain that in any environment a person must adjust in order to survive, and through any adjustments comes change.
This speech is Karl Paulnack’s welcoming address for incoming freshman students. He addresses that music isn’t apart of arts and entertainment rather music is an invisible force that helps us piece ourselves together. Paulnack believes that music is an essential part of life and goes to prove it by telling his experiences with it. He describes the first moment he truly understood music and the impact it has on people. Paulnack portrays the day after 9/11 after he struggles to find any meaning in being a pianist. After a long time of questioning himself he observes the city and notices something. He sees that in this time of grief and sadness people are singing. From this he learned that music is a form of expression, it allows people to express their feelings when they have no other words to describe them. Paulnack goes on to describe what he says was the most important concert of his life. He and a friend were playing a concert at a nursing home. During their performance, one man began to cry, it was at that time Paulnack knew the man was a veteran. After Paulnack and his friend finished the piece, they announced that the piece they were playing was Aaron Copland's Sonata, which was a work
A person’s happiness can have an impact on others. People can get agitated because a group or individual is at peace or sons and daughter can be happy as a result of witnessing their parents being content. Delightment is capable of encouraging expansion of one’s knowledge. For instance, if one realizes their potential in achieving greatness in a certain subject, the satisfaction could lead to desiring to draw in more knowledge, knowing the greatness that individual can achieve. Someone who is depressed doesn’t have the motivation to achieve something positive. There are people that misinterpret or have a negative pleasure and peace of mind. That’s the incredible potential happiness
I am a hardworking student who is highly motivated to go to college and pursue a nursing career. I try my best to be the most responsible person I can be by always completing all the duties and responsibilities that need to be completed. I am able to learn and memorize information in a short amount of time and be able to remember it afterward. These qualities can be very beneficial when it comes to succeeding in college. I am the type of person who does not give up and always tries to find a way out of any situation. I believe I am a very patient person and willing to help anybody and believe this is important when it comes to pursuing a nursing career. I believe the qualities I have developed throughout the years will help me be able to succeed
Music has always been integral in my life. During my childhood, when I was four years old, I pressed my fingers on an oven handle like a piano. Throughout my childhood years I listened to my mom’s old-school mix CD’s, along with the Pandora music app on my old Kindle. In fifth grade, I picked up the piano. My alto saxophone studies began in seventh grade. When high school arrived, I turned my focus to guitar and voice. The more knowledge I absorbed, the more knowledge I craved. My decision to pursue music was also influenced by the inspirations I’ve encountered on my journey so far.
Let’s start off by saying I knew it. I have learned, I am meant to be in the health field. I scored very high in the health area of the career questionnaire. I made a choice in my high school years, to pursue a career in the medical field. In 2013 I became a Certified Nursing Assistant, then in 2015 I started to work at Pocola Health and Rehab, and I love every moment that I am there. Nonetheless, I want to become a Registered Nurse. During my questionnaire, I learned that it is a very well paying career. That’s important, but in my heart, it is very awarding to help people. I strive to do better, for me and my family and that is my goal.
As a college student you are told to pick a major that you have interest in. As a little girl, I have always wanted to have a meaningful career. Don’t get me wrong; there are so many careers that have done incredible things for people and the world, but I wanted to find something I am passionate about. After earning my Certified Nursing Assistant, I am going to be a nursing
True happiness comes only from one’s self and not from the help of others. True happiness comes from one accomplishing their personal life goals. In Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay, “Self-Reliance”, he shows why not to conform to society and instead be individualized. He goes on to write “A political victory, a rise in rents, the recovery of your sick, or return of your absent friend, or some other quite external event, raises your spirits, and you think good days are preparing for you. Do not believe it. Nothing can bring you peace but
Keynote speaker, Donna Wilk Cardillo once wrote, “Nursing is not for everyone. It takes a very strong, intelligent, and compassionate person to take on the ills of the world with passion and purpose and work to maintain the health and well-being of the planet. No wonder we are so exhausted at the end of the day!” In high school, there was no question that I wanted to be a nurse. I had even decided that I wanted to specialize in emergency medicine. Caring for others has always been a passion of mine and I imagined I would enjoy the fast pace of the emergency room. However, competing in a regional competition for CPR and first aid opened my eyes to the reality of my desired specialty.
I am Brania Shant’A Kimbrough. I am 17 years old currently a student at Euclid High School. I plan on becoming a nurse Midwife. When I was younger all I loved was taking care of babies and I think the birthing process is a miracle. One of my big focuses is helping out with others when I can. I plan on starting college in the fall of 2017. During high school my main focus was to make good grades and stay on the right track. I made honor role throughout most of my high school years. I struggled with a couple courses but tried my hardest to not fail myself or the courses. When I became a junior I started to think about college and where I would fit in at. I couldn’t decide between going for nursing or occupational therapy. They are both outstanding
Hans Eysenck was born on March 4th, 1916 in the country of Berlin. Both of his parents were actors and got separated when Hans was at the age of two, this left him to be raised by his grandmother. At the age of eighteen Hans left Berlin when the Nazi came into command. He then moved to England in 1934 and attended University College in London. In 1940 Eysenck worked at the college in the psychology department where he achieved his PhD.
Radkersburg, Austria. He studied architecture in Vienna, London and Pairs, and in 1906 he moved to New York to continue his studies. He met Hugo Gernsback around this time and became his primary artist for all his magazines including Pirate Stories, Amazing Stories, Wonder Stories and Science Plus. However after Mr.Gernsback's Wonder Stories failed in 1936, Paul moved to Ziff-Davis for occasional work for Fantastic Adventures and Amazing Stories; also Paul did work for Fantastic Novels and Famous Fantastic Mysteries.
Ever since I was a young child I have wanted to be a nurse. The older I have gotten, the feeling of wanting to be a nurse has only gotten stronger. When I began to work in a hospital and was constantly surrounded by nurses, I was often asked what type of nurse I would want to be. This was a question that I had never had a definite answer for, as I had always just known that I wanted to be a nurse. In completing this career research report I have been able to explore multiple careers that I may be interested in in the nursing field. I have learned the importance of looking into what personality traits would be required for a job that I would be interested in and comparing those personality traits to traits that I already possess. I
