When watching Keith Yamashita's video, I discovered the main purpose of its intent was to uncover the creative process and perception for CEOs to carefully design and explore innovative ideas. Yamashita illustrated his points in a narrative way; he told different stories of past and present CEOs whom he assisted and the learning experience he gained for each individual CEO. The intended audience appeared to young and middle age leaders who are either in top level management positions or are entrepreneurs who are pursuing higher career goals. The points that are the most convincing are the different scenarios of what a CEO does, is what he/she sees. The points that are less convincing were irreverent information about everyone touches art and the importance of watching art. …show more content…
He used the tangled weird rope example to demonstrate his argument about CEOs becoming great designers and how people are connected /tied together by human experiences. He also defined the term “design” as something that does not yet exist, but will eventually exist when a leader arranges his/her elements to become a reality.
The organization of Yamashita’s lecture was presented in a well descriptive storytelling way; I felt as though I was visually in the room with him traveling back through the past times. His arguments were clear and concise and his overall delivery was fairly well-organized. He used concrete examples and linked them to his key arguments. However, sometimes his delivery of key ideas was convoluted and too short to comprehend with little details. For instance,Yamashita stated, “There are twenty design jobs a CEO must do to be a great CEO,” but he failed to identify those jobs and how to differentiate between
What are creativity, innovation, and design, and how are these concepts important to meeting the objectives of an organization? To understand these concepts they must first be defined. Webster’s dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com) defines creativity as the “Ability to produce something new through imaginative skill, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic objects or form. The term generally refers to a richness of ideas and originality of thinking. Psychological studies of highly creative people have shown that many have a strong interest in apparent disorder, contradiction, and imbalance, which seem to be perceived as challenges. Such individuals may possess an
Graphic design lives on a spectrum of consequences. The beginning of the spectrum houses the design that remains unnoticed by most. This idea is illustrated in the novel when the narrator begins to discard a chewing gum wrapper. The narrator would not have registered any thought on the wrapper’s design without the outside force from his graphic design professor. This is not an indication that the wrapper’s design was unsuccessful; the wrapper’s purpose was not to shock the internal working of its audience. In this case, ease is desired. The wrapper’s design remaining unnoticed is a reflection of all of the things it did

One of my most influential experiences took place with my very first class, ED 523 taught by Dr. Howe. In this course, I learned about the Understanding by Design (UbD) Framework created by Wiggins and McTighe. This framework focuses on a backward design approach that uses big
Google, Inc. is a corporation that is known for innovation and amazing leadership practices. Google’s greatest innovation may actually be its managerial practice. Google is not led by a single CEO, but by a team that gives it immense strategic and management strength. (Nussbaum, n.d.) Engineers at Google are able to work on their ongoing projects 4 days out of the 5 day work week, and one day a week is designated for potential ideas of their own choice. (Sawyer, 2009) Google has innovation reviews, where each executive presents the most promising ideas from within his own division. The CEO is at these innovation reviews to listen to these innovative ideas. Another way to ensure that some of these ideas have the opportunity to be developed is to allow the engineers to work on these ideas for more than one day a week and in some cases full time. Allowing time to be creative and develop ideas is embracing the art of innovation and

I am doing the response on the practicum speaker for today (11/17/17) Matthew Vroman. He graduated from Bradley University in 2012 and went to L.A. and became a Technical Designer for an indie game studio known as F84 and for the most in the beginning part his days consisted of coding, designing, as well as dealing with other tasks such as meetings and customers. One thing that he spoke about the resonated and related with me was when he talked about his day in the life of Matthew Vroman. He talked about what his current tasks are after working with F84 games for the past five years compared to what his tasks were when he first started out. How he went from a less that managerial position and doing more “grunt” work too, after five years, being

when he said that Design is Not a Neutral Act. Read the NYT article "The Fab Mind" and reflect on the different modes of 'design' - how might you see your future of design.
By concluding the novel in a fictitious location of Pacific Rim Auditorium to record the surreal fight between El Gran Mojado and SUPERNAFTA, Yamashita marks the agglomeration of her culturally diverse characters (and the immigrants among them) in the urban city of L.A.
“Yale is the place that endowed me with the confidence and the grand scope of the world that a young designer needed to excel and make a difference in the real world.” – Yansong Ma. Yale University (M.Arch ’02).
He begins his talk speaking about birds. And details on a six-hour talk he had previously given. He continues on to talk about how design is the first signal of human intention. And then he asks what are our intentions as a species? He asks what is the first question for designers? He states they use the tools of commerce for their work. Their primary question they bring to it is how do you love all the children of all species for all of time. The discussed his visit to the white house and his discussion about global warming. If you don’t have an end game you’re just wasting time. He jokes that if anyone has a hard time with the concept of design humanity he reminds us it took us 5000 years to put wheels on our luggage. He discusses there is no
