Leadership Style Assessment
My leadership style assessed by the Kent tool is participative style of leadership. (University of Kent (n.d). Participative style of leadership is the type where the entire team works in collaboration. Each of the team members contributes their valuable ideas, but the final decision is made by the leader (University of Kent. (n.d). This is truly the leadership style that I love to exhibit. Participative leader always encourage inputs from the members to assist in decision making. For example, in a code blue situation, team leader directs the code, but each member has designated roles and communicates throughout the situation, aiming towards a single goal. Participative leadership builds consensus through participation. Individuals with different skills and knowledge working towards common summit will take them to a level of synergy where whole is definitely greater than sum of parts. (Koen, M.P.,&

In this type, the individual’s direction and source of energy is external world. Such a person loves to strongly follow his thoughts and imaginations and loves to make plans with logic and implements in a well-organized way. This typology clearly reflects my personality trait. For example, being a preceptor in a hospital setting, I like to help new nurses to adapt to a new situation. I will always be eager to help enthusiastic, energetic nurses and will usually turn around to the nurse, who fails to meet standards or is having a lack of interest or a negative outlook towards job. I am truly confident of taking up any challenge. I like to make each step with perfection and quality, aiming long-term results. As an ENTJ, I am a strong-willed woman with positive attitude, but will encounter trouble adapting with the individuals who fails to meet the
As complex leaders, healthcare administrators need to develop competencies in initiating three fundamental activities that enable managing turbulence in a nonequilibrium environment:
Today a lot of the things we talked about really hit home with me, and I actually cried in a room full of strangers as I told them my story and why I chose to be a leader.
The three concepts that I found the most valuable during my academic lessons at Non-Commissioned Officer Academy Intermediate Leadership Experience would be the three elements of flexibility, the five traits of followership, and leadership influencing styles. These concepts are very important to me because they will make a positive change in myself and my leadership style. My goal to change my flexibility and, my overall adaptability, would be to change my default setting of dispositional flexibility to a more positive outlook. I currently may have a stand-offish/negative outlook when it comes to change. To be a more effective leader I must will myself to maintain a positive disposition to a changing environment. The next goal would be
If you recall, the assessment tool used in the Unit 1 Discussion 2 topic thread was the Styles of Leadership Survey. In summary, the Styles of Leadership Survey is a self-assessment tool measuring leadership style based on the components of philosophy, planning, implementation, and evaluation; it is ideal for “non-management supervisory personnel, campus and community groups, volunteer organizations, and administrative personnel” (Teleometrics, 2007, p. 2).
Discovered by Dr. James McGregor Burns, Transformational Leadership relates to engagement and connectivity. Dr. Bernard Bass expounded Burn’s work with transactional leadership in his publication Work Leadership. Burns and Bass suggest that leaders should raise consciousness to their followers by sharing the importance of the values and goals of an organization, in turn, motivating followers to address higher management level needs. In 1985, Bass released Leadership and Performance beyond expectation breaking down transformational leadership into four parts.
Leadership decision making styles are based on a leaders identifying and a problem, then gathering and analyzing data and looking for a viable solution to solve a designated issue or concern. Leadership positions calls for leaders to become decision makers on a day to day basis and at times said decisions can be complicated or a leader may suffer from repercussions or blowback from their decisions. In business leaders are often placed in the position where their decisions are considered to be controversial to all concerned. This week’s homework assigned required students to identify a situation where they were forced to make a difficult decision. As part of the discussion students must also highlight how their particular decision was reached and to also identify their particular decision making style.
The IS department is managed and led by Wayne, who has been in charge of all technology related needs for the company for over ten years. During my research and analysis of Wayne and his leadership practices, I have identified three leadership practices that he utilizes on a frequent basis. Wayne is an interactive leader, who is charismatic, and makes the right decisions when needed. Each of these styles of leadership that Wayne displays contributes to his overall success in the department.
During the following year, I will be facing major changes in my life, and clearly what is expected from me is discipline and hard work so I will be able to achieve my goals. Based on my “Leadership Style Analysis Paper” I realized that sometimes I am extremely relaxed, carefree, and unable to stay focused on formal studies so I knew I had to change. In the future, I don’t want to be recognize by those “attributes”. I want to be known for being efficient, proactive, thorough, committed, trusting and determined and my desired identity is defined in three two-word phrases: 1. efficiently proactive, 2. thoroughly committed and 3. trustingly determined. At the end, my leadership brand statement end up as follow: “I want to be known for being efficiently
my comfort zones in order to get the full experience and immerse myself in the retreat, and showing my vulnerable side. All these experiences allowed me to realize how they help foster a caring, nurturing and team building culture where we can all trust one another and depend on each other to help us through our experiences. Furthermore, I then realized that there are certain characteristics important to becoming a great leader. These are that the individual has established a complete set of core values, can become present and devote 100% of their attention to the task at hand. Has a well rounded set of characteristics addressing; authenticity, vision, integrity, creativity and service. If a leader can poses most of these characteristics they
A leader’s style is the way in which someone provides direction, implements plans and motivates people.1 In other words, everybody has a method of leading others to accomplish a shared vision and goal. Furthermore, understanding leadership style is vitally important for both a leader and those under his or her leadership. For example, if a leader is a democratic leader, people’s opinions will be very important to that leader as well as lengthy discussion before a decision is made. Therefore, those under this leader need to know that their opinion is valued and necessary. When I first started leading at church, I was a very democratic leader until someone said, “Just tell us what you want us to do.” What they were asking for was a compelling vision and assignment. We were just getting started and they wanted to charge a hill, but did not know what hill we should charge.
I am aspiring to be a democratic style leader, because they involve employees in decision-making processes, while delegating authority and they use feedback as an opportunity for coaching employees. I believe this is the best leadership style, because it motivates employees to work hard, because their opinions are valued. This creates a positive morale and work environment for everyone who works for this particular type of company.
Of the three leadership styles, authentic leadership resonates with me the most. Authentic leaders “lead from core values, they have courage and self-discipline, they establish trusting relationships, and they are purpose driven” (Manning & Curtis, 2015, p. 164). In general, core values are a place where most people can relate. As a manager, I want to build a positive foundation with my employees; one of trust and purpose. Authentic leadership promotes expression and contribution by employees, which is something I strive to encourage (Hsiung, 2012). I fully agree with the concept of trust in leadership; we has leaders must relate and build relationships with our team. Additionally, as an authentic leader, I am aware of my limitations
The leadership styles of the United States Presidents can make them effective or it can limit their effectiveness. The effectiveness of the President has direct effect on the American people. Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy were two leaders that had major influences in the mid-20th century. Both men played a key role in the United States involvement in Vietnam. The experiences, styles of leading, and characteristics of both President’s Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy intensified the level of involvement the United States had in the Vietnam experience. Even though the leadership styles may have differed, the two leaders refused to let communism spread (Moss, 2010).
Chrysler is among the biggest American automobile companies. However, before the current success the company enjoys, it underwent enormous losses and was declared bankrupt during the 2008-2009 automotive industry crisis. With the appointment of Sergio Marchionne as its chairperson and CEO, the company became successful again. Marchionne 's unique leadership skills, type, and behavior that are not always popular are credited with the success of the enterprise. The paper discusses Marchionne 's leadership traits, behavior and styles and how they have contributed to the firm 's success.
According to Bethel University (2011) “What is Your Leadership Style?” my behavior is that of the Participative Style. In this case, I share the decision making as a leader and a follower. Moreover, as a leader, my strengths include being open for discussion from other followers with ideas, questions, and concerns. According to Lam, Xu, & Cham (2015), weaknesses can comprise uncertainty and reluctance when it comes to trying to come to a consensus rapidly. Based on the assessment information retrieved, followers have input; however, I ultimately make the decisions accordingly (Bethel University,
