Chelsie Goodwin Lesson Plan Analysis Our lesson plan incorporates the ideas of behaviorism, cognitive development, and motivation. Mixing the ingredients, baking the cake, decorating, and frosting a red velvet cake with 5th graders is our lesson plan. Operant conditioning is used in our lesson plan through our end product. If the group successfully follows the given baking instructions, then the cake will come out correctly. Once the groups can see and taste a successful end product, this will ensure positive reinforcement to follow directions properly and working well with others. The same is true for negative reinforcement. If the cake does not come out good, then the groups will want to improve their baking so that they can get a better result next time. Cognitive Development is discussed in our lesson plan through Vygotsky’s theory. Vygotsky’s theory stresses the importance of social …show more content…
We got together during the group days to collaborate and share our work with one another. Putting all of our information onto a Google doc was an effective way to have a mutual place for all of our work, where we could work on it at home as well. The only thing that did not work well in our group was the time if completion for everyone. We were all at different points throughout the semester, rather than the group working at the same pace. To improve this lesson, I would make checkpoints throughout the semester to ensure that the project was going smoothly. Certain portions of the lesson plan should need to be accomplished throughout the year so that the lesson plan cannot be pushed until the last minute. I think the lesson would work fairly well, despite the messiness. Baking and decorating a cake with 10 and 11 year olds may get out of hand at times. Also, I think the reflection and discussion piece could have been more intensive because I want the lesson to really demonstrate the objectives
In Vygotsky’s sociocultural development theory, social interaction plays an important role in the process of cognitive development, which is different then Piaget’s understanding of child development. Vygotsky believed children are active knowledge
Vygotsky may have overplayed importance on social influences because he suggests that child’s cognitive development occurs through social interactions, for example children do internalisation of problem solving via mutual interactions. However, if social learning is the essence of cognitive development then learning would be a lot faster than it is. Thus Vygotsky ignores the biological aspects that aid or restricts the cognitive development such as the development of brain and maturation. Therefore Piaget’s theory of cognitive development is different to
The learning outcomes are important. There has to be a reason on why something is being taught, and how it will be useful to the students future. Throughout the paper, I’m going to give you an example of a lesson plan I
Lev Vygotsky believed that social and cognitive development work simultaneously to build and evolve on one another. He believed that social, cultural and personal experience cannot be detached from each other and many things influence the way children learn and develop, not just their own experiences, thus Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory. Vygotsky’s ideas were and remain controversial as he had no specific training in psychology or children’s development. His preeminent contribution to children’s development is his recognition of the value of progressing knowledge by means of interaction with educators, peers and family (Mooney, 2000, p. 83). The major ideas of Vygotsky’s theory are scaffolding and the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). Scaffolding is a process Vygotsky described as the framework or temporary support for children’s learning. In order for scaffolding to be beneficial, it must be responsive to the child’s needs (Coon & Mitterer, 2013, pp. 106-107).
This week I learned about differe\irente instruction. I also learn how to implement a lesson plan to meet the needs for each students in the classroom. Each child learning style is different one child might understand the problem one way and then another child might solve the problem a whole different way. I learned about exceptional children and how they need intensive learning and individualize learning. That why it is important to observe and know each individual child so you can support them to the bset of their ability. My host teacher used different strategies to help the students understand the problem. When I did my lesson plan if was a challenge and time consumer.I likle how the lesson plan met the needs of the children. The teacher put the students in different groups so they acn help each other learn. Sometimes children learn best and better from other children. My host teachger explain to me that
Lesson Plan: Show the entry event, write down the essential question, do inquiry, set the deadline, answer some questions, let them do research, make blueprints, we will do check-ins every day except the last 3 days we will give them time to do work instead of doing check-ins, try to do journals at the end of every day, after done with research give them materials, let them make a plan, let them build farm, after everyone done with the farm they will present them in front of everyone and explain how a farm works in the presentation, the teachers will grade the
Detailed, step-by-step lesson plan (this section should be very detailed – the bulk of each lesson plan. Make sure lessons are as student-driven/active as possible).
Now yes the lesson plan even with the food was pretty solid, but I feel my lesson plan could still be improved. What I think could have been improved is the fact that for my particular station I used pink lemonade where every other station didn’t because of this I was the weak link. Mean all the students once they left my station were still focused on the lemonade, and not on the other stations. What I think we could have done differently is use the lemonade and trail mix for a closing activity so that if done to early does not take away the students engagement into the lesson
The lesson simulation I taught was fifth grade social studies about Texas regions. The portian of the lesson I presented during the lesson simulation was the engaged portion of the lesson which included making map using a food item that correlates with each region for example gold fish represented the gulf coast. The most effective part of my lesson was was that it was very hands on and the use of foods to identify different regions in texas. There is always room for improvement on anything you do but in this lesson imparticular their was one main area in which I could have improved the area is allowing more time to finish completting the assigned task. I believe the reason I didn’t was that I was being fimiled it it was awakard standing their
Finally, reviewing the answers to the worksheet as a class. This is a solid middle of the lesson. However, some ways in which I would improve the lesson are to first include the strategy of walk and talk when the students are discussing the diagram at the top of the chart activity. Including the walk and talk activity helps to incorporate the kinesthetic modality into the lesson. It also helps to get the students up and out of their seats in between their graphic organizer and their worksheet, which will help to benefit the students with ADHD. Another way that I would improve the middle of the lesson is I would have the students work on the Who You Gonna Call? worksheet in pairs. The reason I would have the students work on this worksheet in pairs is because I think it will help them to better understand the material. I would have the students discuss with their partner the decision they are going to make to help Wally. This discussion will help the students better understand the material. One final way that I would improve the middle of the lesson is that I would have large versions of the graphic organizer, and large graph paper. I would use the large version of the graphic organizer to help go over and review the answers with the class. This large graphic organizer can also help to guide discussion. The large graph paper will be used to help with the discussion of the chart. The teacher can help create a chart about how involved the citizens are, and how responsible the member of government is for citizens. The teacher will then use this graph to help the students check
In general, I feel that this lesson was generally successful. The students, for the most part were engaged and thinking about the North East region. During the previous lesson, we discussed that the regions were divided by climate, culture, geography and economy and the students were able to apply those concepts to the lesson. Because they are familiar with this region, because it is our home region, they were able to compare and analyze aspects of this region to the other regions. They determined the climate, culture, economy and geography of this region by activating prior knowledge and sharing what they knew about the
Analysis of the three identified stages stated on the lesson planner shall take place within this assignment. Links will be shown between the teaching methods that were incorporated in this lesson planner which met particular learning characteristics, traits and needs of the group or an individual(s) and relevant educational and theoretical principles. The lesson planner has been placed in the appendices, as a referral resource, for this assignment.
Firstly, I would like to talk about the lesson planning and delivering. As we have already learnt from Teaching Methodology 402, lesson plan works as guideline and help us a lot as teacher trainees. It reminds us what to
For our group presentation, my peers and I had a group chat and a shared file to work with. Most of our communication was via Facebook Messenger and Google Docs and during class time. Though this method eased our work and gave us flexibility, it also caused some problems that we did not foresee. I expected this project to be taxing, but instead found it much easier. The group overall was about the same as an essay, but with a visual twist which was interesting.
Based on the evidence gathered, I would extend this lesson into 4 days and teach at a slower pace. Doing this will allow the students, to do this step by step with no misconceptions along the way. In the four days I would first introduce solids, and go in depth in this lesson. I would do many activities like
