Lindeen takes the perspective of gun control away from the people. He says the regulation of gun control does not need to be through gun control itself, but through the actions leading to the gun control. Lindeen states in his paper “ sloganeers make the concept of gun control or no control an easy thing to grasp and causes easy thoughts” (1659-1660). He looks at both interpretations of gun control and states there are other ways to help control violence then just taking away guns. According to him one of the problems is people do not know much about the data or the statistics. People only go with the facts they grew up with. People tend to not go on the computer and look up statistics about guns and deaths by guns. He also states the information
In arguing that anti-Confederate southerners played a central role in Confederate defeat, Freehling shifts historical debate to ground that is at once familiar and novel. Historians such as Drew Gilpin Faust and Paul Escott have identified internal disaffection as the primary cause of Confederate defeat while Gary Gallagher has suggested that whites in the Confederacy maintained their support for the government even as military losses ended the war.[1] The South vs. the South expands the scope of inquiry, looking beyond internal fissures within the Confederacy to the divisions in broader southern society. In Freehling's telling, anti-Confederate whites undermined the Confederacy by remaining outside the nation while slaves sapped Confederate
Lastly, on the subject of discrimination are the viewpoints that come from Fredrick Douglass author of the essay Reconstruction (1866). Unfortunately, Douglass was an individual that endured the abuse of slavery, until managing to flee (Van Camp, 2014). It was through Douglass’s experiences of slavery and beyond, that lead him down a journey to seek fairness for all, including slaves and the rights of women (Van Camp, 2014). Although the Civil War had ended and slavery was supposed to be eliminated, Douglass moved forward by writing the essay, Reconstruction (Van Camp, 2014). It is a piece of literature that seemed to illuminate Douglass’s views on the possibility that although the Civil War ended and slavery was no longer acceptable, there was still reason to believe that the country
Mr Campbell Newman was a popular lord mayor as a member of the Liberal Party, who served the Queensland government for three years from 2012 – 2015 (Lewis, 2015). In the recent 2015 Queensland state election, Newman was heavily punished by the public voters of Queensland as a result of treating the public servants unfairly by cutting jobs in contrast to his promises. He also claimed that there would be no forced redundancies and that he would try to lower the unemployment rate, yet these promises were never met. In support of this, the following essay argues that Campbell Newman didn’t interfere with the free market economy of Queensland, which can be beneficial for consumers in many ways because there is no government intervention. Instead,
In 2011, Jennifer Connell was attending her nephew, Sean, 8th birthday party, Connell walks into the backyard and upon seeing his aunt, Sean runs and jumps to hug her. Causing Connell to fall backwards landing on the ground and breaking her wrist in the process. Instead of doing something rash, like, accepting he is eight and it was an accident since the laws of physics are not clear to him yet, she did the rational thing. She filed a lawsuit - against the nephew. She claimed that the nephew had been "careless" and wanted $127,000 for emotional suffering and medical bills. In her claim she stated that she had recently attended a party and her inability to hold her "hors d'oeuvres plate was distressing and embarrassing. Deliberation lasted a mere twenty minutes. The jury awarded Jennifer Connell nothing.
Lewis could support Lasn arguments because Lewis describes A&F as a place that does not seem un-Moonielike. Lasn make a distinction between the feeling of independence and the rules. Lasn mentions, “The atmosphere is quite un-Moonielike. We’re free to roam and recreate. No one seems to be forcing us to do anything we don’t want to do. In fact, we feel privileged to be here. The rules don’t seem oppressive. But make no mistake: There are rules” (378). Lasn emphasized the comfort ability the consumer culture creates for its members. The ambience of the culture he considers a cult is supposedly free and unrestricted. With that feeling, Lasn believes one becomes so welcome that they feel privileged- they belong here. The rules of the cult do not seem
Two Latinas and a baby were stopped by security while grocery shopping, because another shopper accused the dark-skinned women of kidnapping the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde baby accompanying them. It was not until the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde father of the baby refuted the accusation, that the women were released. My mother (who is from El Salvador) and my nanny (who is from Belize) were the two women and I was the baby. My mom and nanny would not have been publicly incriminated and shamed, were they fair-skinned. McIntosh’s article substantiates the ubiquity of white privilege. White people do not have to worry about being monitored while running errands or being pulled over because of their skin color. I agree with McIntosh’s point
EJI argued in the United States Supreme Court that death-in-prison sentences imposed on children are unconstitutional, and the Court has now banned death-in-prison sentences for children convicted of non-homicide crimes and mandatory death-in-prison sentences for all children. Trial courts must conduct new sentencing hearings where judges will have to consider children's individual characters and life circumstances, including age, as well as the circumstances of the crime. The Supreme Court wrote that, because of "children's diminished culpability, and heightened capacity for change, we think appropriate occasions for sentencing juveniles to this harshest possible penalty will be

The first talk featured Miki Kaneda and focused on the manner in which the idea of prestige is entrusted in the current time period. The argument was that though prestige can still be gained through traditional institutions, such as conservatories and companies, new music and its practices broadens accessibility to prestige. The multi-media, multi-genre, and collaborative elements present in the performance practices of those involved in the New Music scene, such as WetInk of New York, demonstrates how successful this new model of prestige can be in reaching new audiences and of maintaining financial sustainability in a market environment.
Many college students may be exposed to an abundance of material that may trigger them in some type of way. Many colleges have tried to combat these problems but most seem to fail because there is no possible way of knowing what triggers someone. After reading some arguments on trigger warnings, I found all of them less compelling than Brianne Richsons argument. Out of every article I read, None of them even mentioned where the trigger warning stopped. Anybody could be triggered by anything as long as it reminds them out a fearful event. A persons emotions and past is unpredictable which also makes their triggers equally as unpredictable. The thin line that she described thoroughly is definitely the tie breaker between Richsons article and
Once more, certain people with psychological sickness without a doubt confer vicious acts. Reports contend that psychological sickness may even be underdiagnosed in individuals who submit arbitrary school shootings. Yet developing confirmation proposes that mass shootings speak to factual distortions that uncover more about especially repulsive examples than they do about populace level occasions. To utilize Swanson's stating, constructing weapon crime– avoidance endeavors in light of the emotional well-being histories of mass shooters dangers building "basic confirmation" from "extraordinary things." (Swanson, 2011). Such an approach consequently loses the chance to manufacture regular proof from normal things, for example, the sorts of proof
Morin has played in 125 games scoring 29 points, adding 201 penalty minutes so far in his AHL career.
To say that the issue of climate is resolved in the United States of America would be a falsehood. It is a commonly heard claim that 97% of climate researchers believe that global warming is real (Skeptical Science, 2012), and one would think that such consensus would inspire action among all positions of government. However, there is still the minority of scientists who do not explicitly agree with, or completely deny these beliefs. One such scientist is Richard Lindzen, who argues that there is an emotional, propagandistic reason why there would be such a large percentage of scientists who believe that climate change is caused by human factors.
Strategic planning is significant to a business since it is graphing a pathway to the future growth of the organization. Kaufman writes, “A useful strategic plan identifies and justifies” (2016, p.57). When the organization defines a cohesive vision that was listed in the journal, one can realize the value and the direction that the company is trying to achieve. Gale points out that the markets are not going through the normal means of purchasing their products, they instead saw the opportunity to purchase in bulk and sure the saving to the customers (2016, para.6). Their low prices create the competitive advantages the organization is looking for their stores.
