St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a non-profit organization that helps battle pediatric cancers. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is not your typical children’s hospital. Strategic Planning is an essential first step in the development of a result-base accountability system,” (Schilder, 2013, p. 1). In strategic planning an organization must know their goals, missions, and how to reach them. Health care facilities are in huge demand for the elderly and for people who lives in low-income communities. A person who receives good quality health care services can prevent the spread of contagious diseases. This paper will describe the need of the community, population it is serving, and a brief description of the facility.
The ever-changing environment in healthcare requires strategic planning teams to address a handful of specific critical issues that will lead to success in the long term. In an industry as diverse and large as health care, Scripps Mercy will face many challenges but will need to avoid the temptation during the environmental assessment phase of its strategic plan. Zuckerman (2012) states, "Failure to produce a limited number of issues to address in subsequent planning activities almost always dooms the strategic planning process" (p. 43), too often healthcare is riddled with issues; an effective environmental assessment will condense these concerns in a solid and clear way. All the new upcoming changes in healthcare reform and technology will have Scripps Mercy face many challenges in information management, their demographic served, and staff recruitment and development.
In order to determine which existing and potential services that Lakeview Medical Center (LMC) should offer, strategists must assess several key components of each service line to test its validity. LMC will conduct a “brainstorming” session outside of the work environment to encourage strategic thinking amongst the administrators. To begin with, these administrators need to decide whether or not each service at-hand aligns with the medical center’s mission. If the service does not further the organizational mission or purpose, then it should
Due to many changes in health service organizations’ internal and external environment, planning can be sometimes onerous (Longest & Darr, 2008, p. 366). Therefore, a well thought strategic plan will guide leaders and keep them focus on the organization’s mission. In health service organizations, strategic planning is emanated at the top level of the pyramid, then pass down to others in leadership positions (Longest & Darr, 2008, p. 366). A strategic planning process consists of many steps: a situational analysis, external environment analysis, internal environment analysis, strategy formulation, strategic implementation, and strategic control. As mentioned before, health service organization faced many challenges, a strategic planning not only helps with planning, controlling, and decision making, but it also allows management to analyze their strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities and threats. Again, the strategic planning process has proven to be effective when implemented by the entire organization.
In Clinical Integration in Strategic Planning “providers can track the patient across the continuum, coordinate care across the continuum and make sure the patient is getting the most appropriate care in the most appropriate environment” (Karash & Larson, 2016). It is needed to simplify the direction/coordination of patient care through any circumstances, providers, sceneries, and time in order to attain care that is harmless, appropriate. effectual, well – organized, reasonable and patient-focused. In addition, clinical integration also develops the partnership with the physician, an administrator developing the partnership with the team. Clinical integration starts from the top board of
The inception of the “Healing Hospital” is not new. Healing hospitals in various forms have been around throughout history. As hospitals were slowly taken over by religious orders they became more holistic concentrating on all aspects of healing including physical, mental, and spiritual. Instead of focusing on the patient as a carrier of disease and death they began to look at them as a person that has certain fundamental needs for existence. One of these needs as fore mentioned is spirituality. Spirituality simply defined “is that which relates to or affects the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. Spirituality touches that part of you that is not dependent on material things or physical comforts” (Living Words
In conclusion, this paper explored the strengths and weaknesses of this organization. A weakness is identified and improvement is recommended to create a Patient Advisory Council in the Shared Governance to promote better patient-centered care. In doing so, patients will have sense of empowerment by having their input in the plan of care. To measure the success of the recommended change, the use of HCAHPS and patient metrics are utilized and compared nationally.
Traditional hospitals using standard medical treatment and Western-educated personnel tend to treat the patient's physical being while ignoring other equally important aspects of the patient and the caregiver. Fortunately, healing hospitals have transformed the concept of healing through the principle of "Radical Love." Recognizing the equal importance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing for all members of the hospital environment, Radical Love enhances the entire wellbeing of the entire community.

Strategic Planning: Due to the current issues, both internally and externally, the organization is facing, Dr. Townsend is challenged to prepare an action plan to implement the proposed strategy needed to restore the organization back to financial health and improve the morale among the physicians and support staff. 1) Upon the story presented, necessary actions should be taken to overcome the hospital’s problems. St. Mary’s Hospital last year’s numbers showed the necessity of such actions. For the first time, since the hospital started operating, they presented deficit on its revenue. St. Mary’s hospital had some major problems in a few departments. During the last few years, the occupancy, or the number of patients in the hospital, has been declining. Such problem is explained by changes made to reimbursement policies, a larger emphasis on outpatient services, and an increase in local competition. Another major problem the hospital faces is the performance appraisal system. It seems inadequate for the system in
Improving the quality of health care system is the main goal of this organization. In this case study we will be talking about the strategic plans being made by the organization for the next decade to deal with the problems of resource management, network growth, patient satisfaction as well as nurse staffing. The readiness of the organization towards catering the citizens' needs for health care will also be discussed in this case study (Goetsch and Davis, 2010).
In business there are strategies that need to be fulfilled. Starting a business or health care organization we need to use strategy planning.
