Mean Girls Movie Review/ Personality Psychology Essay

Dispositional personality theories are quite different from biological personality theories. The two will be compared and dissected in this article. The Big Five Personality Test will also be analyzed and how it is used to study personality will be examined.

The movie Mean Girls shows examples of many social-psychological principals. Three of the major social-psychological principals depicted in Mean Girls are prejudice, discrimination, and conformity. According to Social Psychology and Human Nature textbook, written by Baumeister and Bushman, prejudice is a negative feeling toward an individual bases solely on his or her membership in a particular group. Discrimination is unequal treatment of different people based on the groups or categories to which they belong. Lastly, conformity is defined as getting along with the crowd.

Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality, there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social-Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach.

“Cold, shiny, hard, plastic.”, one of the most popular quotes from the movie, Mean Girls. Mean Girls is a teen comedy film directed by Mark Waters and screenplay by Tina Fey. This film is loosely based on a book called “Queen Bees and Wannabees” by Rosalind Wiseman which is a self-help book that describes all of the cliques in high school and how they can have a huge effect on girls. But the movie itself is about the sociopolitical climate of the average American “high school”. The movie was made in 2004 and set in Evanston, Illinois, but the film was shot in Toronto, Canada. The film stars Lindsey Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and many more comedic actors and actresses. I chose to do an analysis on the movie, Mean Girls, because I wanted to see if people would agree with my perspective, which is that this movie does correctly show the real life mean girl situations and how girls can overcome the popularity contests.

As I reflect on the various learning activities in this first week’s unit assignment on how the relevance of personality theories is important and what is personality theory I can gain insight by understanding its theories. I can apply this learning toward my professional life; by learning the different Behaviors and analyzing the Analysis in Psychology by understanding Personality and the Developmental behavior also refers to the different pattern in the way people think ,such as feelings, social adjustments ,and thoughts. This Method will be used thought out my course I will learn to understand the different personality characteristics this general information and the analysis will support and improve my critical thinking

Funder discusses on how personality psychology formulates around numerous basic approaches. One approach Funder talks about is the biological approach, which addresses the mental process on our behavior including anatomy, physiology, genetics, and evolution. This approach analyses our feelings, thoughts, and behaviors through our mind. Another approach that Funder discusses is the trait approach, which is basically the study of human personality; the trait approach concentrates on the way an individual differs in emotion, thought, and behavior and how those differences are measured. These two approaches complement each other because the trait approach focuses on routine patterns of an individual that are behaviors, feelings, and thoughts which those

Those choices lead to her “Punishments.” Cady is grounded, plus her parents do not trust her anymore. She loses her real friends who were honest with her unlike the fake “Plastics.” Aaron rejects her because her personality changed too much. Cady turns into a copy of Regina: arrogant and contemptuous. However, the punishments which she receives help Cady to change and understand that saying bad things about others will not make her better, nor will it cause her to change. This aspect of the tragic hero is Discovery. By going through the challenges she is transformed to a confident, sage and wise person. Her change can be seen in the last part of the movie when Cady became a Spring Fling Queen. She made a speech about the knowledge she gained, that everyone deserved to be treated equally, and everyone is beautiful, but in different ways. “Catharsis, some sort of emotional release at the end is a common experience of those who witness great tragedies on the stage” (Johnson, Arp 1295), in Cady’s experience, her reward is satting her friends back, and also gaining a relationship

While the film Mean Girls (2004) concentrates on the influence of sexuality in teenagers in high school, it passes all criteria of the Bechdel test. Main character Cady Heron is drawn in to the popular group and experiences all of the drama that a teenage girl in high school experiences. Regina George and "the Plastics" are the popular girls in school who lure Cady's innocence in by pretending to have interest in her personal life. While in the cafeteria, the girls have many discussions of Cady's previous experiences as a homeschooled student and the current drama. The Bechdel test intends to draw attention to the importance of gender representation in this movie by primarily focusing on the female characters who do not only control the plot, but dominate gender equality.

Damian and Janice take this an opportunity to ruin Regina Georges life. Cady does not feel comfortable about doing this, but continues to do so to not disappoint

The plot sounded awful, because bullying and internalized misogyny is a heavy topic. It usually ends in a cathartic note, but Mean Girls unpack these issues with grace. In the film, Cady has been exposed as a traitor. She was shunned in their school, because students taught she pushed Regina in front of a moving bus. She didn’t do it; everyone is either mad or proud for what she has done. Like in the beginning of the film, she was once back at eating her lunch in a bathroom’s cubicle. A person’s personality says much about who he or she is. People define personality in different ways. Researcher after researcher has tried to come up with the best definition for what personality truly means. Case studies, correlational studies, and experimental designs are some of the most commonly used methods of research. These methods help better define personality. The advantages and disadvantages of each method differ and can be helpful or hurtful to the research of an individual’s personality.

Mean Girls: The Adolescence Stage I will be covering the movie Mean Girls and some major things that the movie has in concepts of the development that occurs in the adolescence stage such as attachment, relational aggression, peer influence, and emotions. (Mark Waters, 2004) This movie is a comedy full of memorable quotes, witty characters that some can relate with, and a lot of laughs but realistic plot line, but what some people do not know is that some of the actions from the “Plastics” can ruin their reputation and life choices. Mean Girls is about a girl named Cady that has been home schooled in Africa all her life and is now attending a public school for the first time, where she runs into the “Plastics.” Being a teen is life changing

The movie, “Mean Girls” is the perfect display of the stereotypical high school environment and creates a whole new sociological world within itself. To the viewers watching, which are mostly younger teens the movie creates a fake picture of what being in high school is really like by blowing certain things like cliques or subcultures way out of proportion. Because the movie does not completely represent the high school environment correctly, it creates a very compelling and believable story line story line that is back by the numerous amount of sociological concepts.

Cady and Janis wants to destroy Regina George because they feel that Regina deserved to be thrown out of her grown of queen. Cady has to act like she wants to become one of the plastics in order to continue their plan of destroying Regina. For that reason, Cady has to follow some of the traditions the plastics have. Those traditions includes that they wear pink every Wednesday, they are only allowed to wear a pony tail once a weak, and they are not allowed to wear sweat pants. Mean Girls was a significant success. This entertaining movie features a brilliant cast, an excellent storyline and a straightforward message, it’s pointless to put others down to make yourself look better. It's the best teen comedy romance since clueless. The flick also delivers numerous moments that are sure to be unforgettable. The sharp script by Tina Fey (who also takes the role of maths teacher) makes it far funnier and edgier than many other teen comedy/romance films.
