The area that I chose to discuss under the CFO is the Director of Budgeting. The roles and responsibilities include handling the budget, and managing all expenditures and its limits, supervising staff, and analyzing profit goals, revenue, and expenses while complying the regulations of not only the company but the state and federal industry as well. Some additional methods of management that would fall under this area include directors of human resources. They work hand in hand with each other when it comes to making sure funds are available for new staff hiring, new functions of operations, employee medical and dental benefits, etc.
The health care facility that I have chosen to one day work for in the future is the Miami VA Hospital. Positions
I enjoyed reading your post, Ms. Boynton. I think Virginia Mason Medical center transformation of healthcare using the Lean principles, demonstrates how a medical facility supposed to be operated. Virginia Mason medical team found a way to achieve 100% compliance with the CMS measures for VTE prophylaxis for intensive care patients—for 25 consecutive months and always do what is best for the patient. I wish that all hospitals and center will look into on how Virginia Mason team operating system with staff and patients goes. This organization made effective that all level of staff learn and engage in understanding and applying Lean management, and with doing so, they are one of the top hospital with excellent patient care.
The Miami VA Healthcare System serves Veterans in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties and operates a total of 372 hospital beds (US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, n.d.). The VA system, which is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, is owned and run by the federal government. Consequently, the Miami VA’s audit requirements in order to provide dietary and nutrition care services in the inpatient, outpatient or long term care setting are different compared to private sector hospitals. Hospitals and health care organizations get accreditation from the Joint Commission in order to meet federal requirements and get payment from Medicare and Medicaid programs (The Joint Commission, n.d.). However, since the
The VA is the primary hope for veterans and where there help comes when they need it. Linda Schwartz, the head of Connecticut’s VA says the problem is probably a lot bigger than what the numbers say. “A veteran’s death often does not get reported as a suicide” (Radelat) The problem is huge and daunting to the VA. Schwartz’s VA is proud that her facilities seem to have largely missed the scandal of the VA, and the VA is offering different therapies to widen out the options for the veterans when they go to the VA.

West Florida Regional Medical Center (WFRMC) located on the north side of Pensacola, Florida competed strongly with sacred heart and Baptist hospitals for patients. Nutrition education plays a major role in patient care. When a patient is admitted into the Veterans Affairs Hospital (VA) for treatment they may be put on a specific therapeutic diet. For example, if the patient is diagnosed with diabetes they are put on a carbohydrate consistency diet of 1800 calories per day or, if the patient has hypertension they may prescribe a 2.5g sodium restriction diet. All patients at the VA are assessed by a Registered Dietitian who make the recommendations on which therapeutic diet the patient would benefit from. Following a diet while inpatient is relatively simple because all meals are prepared and served to the patient. The dietitian along with the kitchen staff take care of what types of foods should avoid
Primary Care is a large service, thus in order to meet the medical needs of each veteran it is imperative to have the ability to make adjustments in “real-time”. To achieve these goals it is essential that the Primary Care Service expand and adapt the Group Practice Manager (GPM) approach. Furthermore, this approach is specifically designed for the Primary Care Service to maximize veteran care while meeting the standards of the Hampton VA Medical Center.

Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach is one of Jackson Memorial Hospital’s competitors that have experienced similar weaknesses as they have. Mount Sinai Medical was among one hundred and seven other FHA’s hospital that encountered issues with readmissions, surgical complications, infections such as central line blood stream infections and catheter associated urinary tract infections, and other complications (Anonymous, 2013, p.1). However, with the help of Florida Hospital Association (FHA), a five year strategic plan was created to help reduce cost, cut readmissions, and improve quality of care (Anonymous, 2013, p.1). Steven Sonenreich, CEO at Mount Sinai Medical Center and also chair of Florida Hospital Association FHA's Board of Trustees
