1. What is the Documentary Theory?
The documentary theory, proposes the first five books of the Bible was derived from originally independent, parallel and complete narratives, which were subsequently combined into the current form by a series of editors. The number of these is usually set at four, but this is not an essential part of the theory. The

On the other hand, if the earth is billions of years old, this wouldn't prove that either of these had occurred, but it would make them possible. There is another reason for the importance. God presumably doesn't teach us things for no reason. If He has clearly taught that the earth is a certain age, then that must be important. Further, if the earth is only thousands of years old, then erosion and deposition, and other slow geologic processes, can't have been responsible for many of the geologic phenomena which we observe.
9. What is considered the most important purpose of Genesis? Why?
Purpose of Writing: The Book of Genesis has sometimes been called the "seed-plot" of the entire Bible. Most of the major doctrines in the Bible are introduced in "seed" form in the Book of Genesis. Along with the fall of man, God's promise of salvation or redemption is recorded (Genesis 3:15). The doctrines of creation, imputation of sin, justification, atonement, depravity, wrath, grace, sovereignty, responsibility, and many more are all addressed in this book of origins called Genesis. Many of the great questions of life are answered in Genesis. (1) Where did I come from? (God created us - Genesis 1:1) (2) Why am I here? (We are here to have a relationship with God - Genesis 15:6) (3) Where am I going? (We have a destination after death - Genesis 25:8). Genesis appeals to the scientist, the historian, the theologian, the

The Drama of Scripture written by Bartholomew and Goheen takes the reader on a journey through the entire Bible in six short “acts.” The first Act discusses creation and the establishment of God’s Kingdom. In the beginning was complete darkness. Then, God created light and divided the heavens and the earth. He then split the waters and the seas, creating dry ground on which the rest of creation could walk. He proceeded to make plants and flowers and the sun, moon, and stars. He created days and seasons and animals of all shapes and sizes. And then, to add the finishing touch, God created men and women, male and female, He created them. The book states that “the Genesis story is given so that we might have a true understanding of the world in which we live, its divine author, and our own place in it” (Bartholomew, 29). Genesis 1-3, the story of Creation, is prevalent because it introduces the author of creation, humanity, and the creation upon which humanity’s drama unfolds.

The book of Genesis (the first book of the Torah) was written in 1445 BC and was originally thought to be written by Moses until the eighteenth century. Genesis is a combination of historical narrative and law. In the first two chapters of Genesis, “God creates the world. God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female” (1:27). “In Chapter three, major crises for the newly created world comes when Adam and Eve sin” (Hindson & Towns, 2013, p38). The following two chapters trace the ancestry of Adam and Eve and how their sin continued to cumulate (4-6:6). God sends a flood to destroy his creation, but spares Noah, who offers hope for a future generation and a new beginning (6:1-9:29). Noah’s decedents continue to grow and nations are divided in the

Axiom 4 looks at curriculum change resulting from changes in people. Essentially, the axiom states that in order to change the curriculum, teachers will need assistance changing the way the new curriculum is taught. In order for the curriculum to change, everyone involved needs to change, and that includes parents and the community (Hall, Quinn & Gollnick, 2014, Ch. 11.5).
The way this biblical story is expressed, the metaphors and symbols used, the style of speaking, the exact issues addressed, even the conception of God, are all conveyed in the cultural language of ancient Israel. The book of Genesis has been subjected to the substantial diachronic analysis including source analysis, form, and tradition criticisms. The consideration has shifted largely to synchronic analysis using structuralism, rhetoric, and literary-aesthetic criticisms. A number of recent studies have concluded that Genesis is a united work of literary art that can stand on its own.

Thus far we have come to a closing about the date and source of the individual books of the New Testament, but another questions remains unanswered. We can ask ourselves, how did the New Testament itself come into being? Who collected the writings and on what ideology? What conditions led to the creations of a canon, of trustworthy books?
