My first experience with politics was during the 2008 Presidential election. At that time I felt very strongly for Mitt Romney and was deeply saddened by his defeat. Because of this loss, I vowed to take the powers vested in me by the Constitution to make sure the US does not elect Obama, making the same mistake. He is a mistake because I consider him a failure. He has decreased the value of life for many citizens and ruined America’s healthcare system. I have become educated about current events as well as followed the political campaigns, to which I hope will be evident in the next section.
Being an informed voter, I would like to talk about the issues facing our nation as well as offer a comparison of the current candidates for President, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. I will also outline the issues facing the United States which I find important and give a brief comparison between the candidates and who I agree with.
My opinion of the political issues facing the United States as proposed by the candidates
Police Reform
Police Reform should be one of the many issues handled in the first one-hundred days of our new President’s term. The unrest and corruption are actions that do not belong in our police force. The criminal justice system needs revised. Since 1791 Americans have lost 20,789 officers killed in the line of duty (Law Enforcement Facts 1). To modernize this statistic, from 2004-2013 an average of 151 officers have died in the line of duty (Deaths,
The election of 1860 and 2016 divided our country. There are some similarities and differences, but both elections had the same effect. Each point in time had problems, and each candidate had a different point of view on how to solve these problems. The people who are voting for our future president need to have some background information, so that’s what I’m going to give to you. Hopefully after reading this, you will be sure the person you’re voting for is right for the country.
For many years since 1879 citizens of the United States wait in line to vote for the next great president who will help the country stand tall for another four years. But the mistake doesn’t lie in who you vote for, but what you are voting for and supporting. We sometimes ask ourselves, “what does each party do?” or “what are their beliefs for our country?”
In my life I have never had any political enforcement or strict religious influence. My parents were very lenient when it came too political preaching. I was taught to be a caring and respectful individual. My political understanding and beliefs have been molded from my early political memories and socialization experiences. As a young adult I have always strived to become knowledgeable about political ideals mainly because I was never really taught to believe in something specific. I eventually was drawn towards many different social and political perspectives, which is how I came to a logical conclusion of how I view the world politically
Police officers are generally well-respected in American society. They should be, since officers protect the public from drunk drivers, gunmen and other threats to the commonwealth. However, in light of uncovered events involving the misconduct of police officers, these events call into question the ability of police officers to successfully protect and serve the American people. However, in 2010, 6,613 law enforcement officers were reported for involvement in misconduct which varied from excessive force, sexual misconduct et cetera (Packman). Having 6,613 reported cases of police misconduct in America is ridiculous, especially since it is hard validating the claims against officers and it is difficult to punish officers because of this lack of evidence. While the purpose of police officers in society is to protect the commonwealth of the people, the amount of police misconduct in the United States of America involving excessive force and sexual misconduct is detrimental to the credibility of all police officers. This in turn causes rifts and distrust among the American people concerning officers. Police misconduct can be reduced in American society by requiring police officers to wear cameras while on duty, having a clear definition on what excessive force is and defining how much force is legal for an officer to utilize, and better training geared to improve overall conduct with citizens, especially mentally ill citizens.
How do you think the presidential election is going this year? Many people seem to think that this presidential election is a heated and controversial debate between the Republican and Democratic Party. Some seem to think that as a nation we have never had such contention in an election and that we will never be able to recover from such damage that this election will cause. But history tends to repeat itself in our nation; for example, some of our past elections have caused fear in citizens’ eyes just like this election has done. An example of this is, the presidential election of 1800 between Thomas Jefferson and James Adams, this election caused great worry during that time period. Another election that worried our country deeply was the presidential election of 1860 between Abraham Lincoln and John Breckinridge this election caused our great nation to be divided. Another similarity that both these presidential elections have had, is that at the end of each election the American people have put their political views aside, and united
We first talked about whether or not voters should vote, but now let’s look on the other hand of the candidates. Another issue that faces the candidates is
Presidential elections have existed in the United States for almost as long as the nation itself. Our first President, President George Washington, won the first presidential election in 1789. Although the voting process has been modified tremendously since the first election, the electoral college system remains our country’s way of collecting the nations votes. In this upcoming 2016 presidential election, I will practice my right as a United States citizen to vote. I have done extensive research on a couple of candidates and feel confident in my knowledge on their views on important issues that have been addressed in our country. The purpose of this paper is to compare presidential candidates, Ben Carson and
In the 2016 Presidential Election many people, especially young adults, are not happy with the candidates chosen from either the Republican and Democratic side. For the Republicans Donald Trump was chosen, and from the Democratic side Secretary Hillary Clinton was chosen. From the third party former governor Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, and Darrell Castle were all chosen. As the election comes closer more people are starting to panic over who could become the next President of the united States. Senior Kaitlyn Hill explains why she thinks this election is not looking good.
In looking for answers as to why police brutality is such a big issue today, we see that the problem lies in past actions that were not dealt properly. First, Prohibition reduced respect for authority and law enforcement, as the police committed various unconstitutional acts. Next, the War on Drugs and the War on Terror changed the image of law enforcement from that of a peacekeeper to that of a domestic soldier. As a result of this inaction, American society finds itself in a crisis situation, where people cannot trust the police and where police are struggling to regain credibility with the American population.
After 8 years of having Obama as president it is now time to vote for the new leader of our country. We have two very strong candidates who are continuously trying to amuse the hearts of millions of Americans with the goal of obtaining their votes in this year’s presidential election. Our first candidate is a woman named Hillary Clinton who is,” a current democrat, former United States secretary of state, U.S senator from New York, and first lady.” (The 2016 Presidential Candidate’s Political Stances." ISideWith. N.p., n.d. Web. 18 Nov. 2016) We also have the option of voting for Donald Trump “a republican who is a real estate developer, television personnel, and author.” (The 2016 Presidential Candidate’s Political Stances." ISideWith. N.p.,
The upcoming Presidential Election is unlike any other. Two very different candidates with widely disparate political experience and personalities square off against each other in a bitter, contentious battle. Neither candidate seems very popular or likeable, yet one of them will be sworn in as President of the United States come January. In many ways this presidential election is unprecedented. The candidates from both parties are perceived as extremely unfavorable. And, while the establishment candidate Hillary Clinton currently leads the race, more recent polls show that her lead over her outsider opponent, reality television star and real estate magnate Donald Trump, is weakening. What is not unprecedented about this election, however,
Over the years, police have been portrayed in the media, television shows, and the local newspaper as crime fighting heroes. This portrayal would make one think a police officer is always out doing a dangerous job, which may require shooting, beating up, or arrested the bad guy. The truth is, most officers will not make a felony arrest in a given year, and there are also many officers who have never fired their weapon. There are various perspectives of the policing functions. I will examine these perspectives from the local, state, and federal organizational levels. I will identify and address possible future changes in laws and the overall
There are many different presidential candidates vying for the White House. The candidate I chose for this paper on the surface seemed to be a viable candidate. However, I have come to realize she may not be the best choice for our country at this time. My paper will look at her life, the best things about her policies, and the all the things that, if implemented, would be a detriment to our country.
After every four years, American voters elect the president of their choice to lead the government. Voters are expected to turn up in large numbers and exercise their democratic right. Elections in America are critical because they determine how the country will be run and ultimately the future of the nation. It is always an historic moment as the rest of the world waits to see the outcome of the elections. Indeed, America has been known as the free nation where democracy prevails. This year, it is going to be either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. After successfully winning nominations to be flag bearers for their parties, both candidates are doing their best to win the American voters. However, it is surprising that both the two candidates have negative ratings more than any other previous candidates (Page). Both Clinton and Trump have been facing legal controversies that make the American people lose confidence in the whole process. But despite their shortcomings, these year’s presidential elections would be unique where if elected Clinton would be the first female president while Trump the first president who had no previous experience either in the government of the military.
Economy - I want a candidate that will make us wealthy. The last 2 terms, we have gone down 10 trillion and if we continue in this direction we will lose power. We can't afford the current health care program and our taxes are so high that we need a spouse to afford to live nowadays. I want a smaller government so that I can do what I want with my money, I don't want it taken out of my check so that it goes places such as i.e. towards somebody that doesn't work. There is a massive contrast right now between these candidates. One wants a massive government, that will run our lives for us, the other wants smaller government and encourages us to work hard. And both sides, dems and republicans, are not backing one of the candidates because he/she wants the people to run the country and not the government. This is a threat to people in DC, not a threat to the people. So it's becoming us, the people, vs them, the government. I want us, the people to run the country, and our democracy that was built by our ancestors is being threatened.
