I was a PFO teen from 2011-2013 during my junior and senior years in high school. When in PFO, I was a co-chair of the Winter Ball Committee, the Concert Committee, and was a Small Group Leader. My experiences in PFO made up a huge part of my high school experience that allowed me to make awesome friends, step out of my comfort zone, and grow as a leader.
After graduating high school, I went to UNC Chapel Hill. Although I wasn’t sure about my major, but was able to take interesting classes and join various clubs and organizations. One of those was AIESEC, a leadership development platform that facilitates global exchange. My leadership experience in PFO gave me the background and confidence to travel abroad alone for the first time,
Some of my leadership experiences consist of being in LDS church presidents such as president, First counselor, second counselor, and secretary. I have also been a youth leader in my 4-H club, The Coltman Wranglers. A school activity I have participated in was on the Panther’s swim team in eighth grade, then junior and senior year I was on the Bonneville high school swim team. I participate in FFA through the Technical Careers High School. THis year I am our FFA chapter’s secretary. Last year I was on the Rangeland team, which is when we study plants, soils, and we have five cards to go through about the rangeland. Last year I was on the parliamentary procedure team, which is a speaking event along with a test, I also competed on the ag sales
Group leaders are essential to the success of accomplishing the mutual goals of group counseling. The role that group leaders play is vital for establishing a group environment in which members feel safe, engaged, and encouraged. Characteristics and functions of effective group leaders are good listening skills, good observations skills but more importantly, remain impartial, therefore, the group leader does not give her or his opinions about topics because of consequences that can bring to the group. Additionally, group leaders are culturally sensitive to differences in power and privilege among groups from different ethnic backgrounds. Encouraging participation from members who are hesitant to speak up as well as ensuring that all ground rules are enforced are responsibilities of an effective group leader. However, also being aware that not every member is as comfortable in sharing as others are key for group leaders to be
Police, courts and corrections are part of criminal justice organizations. Each of these organizations face challenges every day and the leaders of these agencies must deal with these challenges (Duelin, 2010). The types of criminal justice leaders range from police chiefs and sheriffs to prison superintendents, and heads of government, state, or local task forces. Some of the challenges they confront are budget and staffing shortfalls, political perspectives on the roles of law enforcement personnel in society, and the changing nature of crime and the difficulties associated with keeping up with these trends (Bryant, 2010).
Iowa State University prides itself on its mission to “Create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place” (Iowa State University Office of the President: Mission and Vision). This mission focuses on the success of each and every student that attends Iowa State. In order for Iowa State’s Study Abroad program to follow the foundational mission of the entire university, it had to create a mission that also focused on the students. The mission they have formed and stand today consists of: putting emphasis on developing strong international adventures. In order for students to go out to other countries to receive a quality education, the Study Abroad program must create a strong base on which they are able to form equal quality education as Iowa State provides no matter where a student goes. To promote opportunities that are inclusive and affordable for all students. To prepare students and directors for success when studying abroad. To advance standards of safety and uphold
Addressing organizational needs, problems and strengths begins with leadership. Ensuring needs, problems and strengths are appropriately measured, analyzed and, where appropriate diverted, begins with great leaders. Great leadership is about “ferocious resolve, an almost stoic determination to do whatever needs to be done to make the company great.” (Collins, 2001). Success for the leadership capstone project can be defined many ways; implementing a solution to resolve the problem as well as acknowledging the limitations of the study and identifying areas of focus for future research. Success for this leadership project is due in part to the results and findings of the study; however, the fundamental key to its success centers around leadership.
What defines a leader? One may say a leader is a person with many titles that distinguish them as having an important role. I however see a leader as much more than a title but rather as a person who makes an impact. A leader in my eyes is one who is an inspiration, shows care for the position they have, is determined, and a team player with empathy and compassion towards all. As future pharmacists, it is of the utmost importance that these qualities carry into the profession so that we may become a better provider to our patients and a more trustworthy part of the healthcare community. With the various leadership roles throughout my life both in the community and on the campus of MCPHS University, I have strengthened and developed the qualities of a leader that make for a future pharmacist ready to improve the profession for the better.
My leadership experience will lead me to a successful career. I have experience with being a leader not only in 4-H, but FFA as well. I may not have a leadership position in FFA, but I show leadership in other ways. I show leadership by leading class discussions, and volunteering to help with our chapters’ group of cattle. I was the first to start doing cow chores, and I taught the following person what they needed to do regarding chores. This goes to show, that even though I am not an officer for our FFA chapter, I still show leadership in and out of the classroom. In 4-H, I have multiple leadership positions. I am on the Polk County Council, which involves running the Polk County Fair, and being an active volunteer in the 4-H Building during
Throughout my four years at the Bethel Park High School, I have represented myself as a strong leader. I never focused myself on just one aspect of leadership. To start, I have worked very hard to be considered as a captain of the cross country team, I currently hold the position of treasurer of the Journalism Club, and I am the head of a committee for the Principal Advisory Committee of Students. Being a leader in not something that I could learn from a textbook, it is a skill learned through my countless experiences. My current jobs that I hold give me great opportunities to prove my leadership skills. One of the most difficult is my referee job, which forces me to take the lead over coaches, players, and parents.
The global perspective I had acquired in my early life guided me to pursue a challenging program of study in high school. The International Baccalaureate
Over the past four years, FBLA has helped me grow in many ways. Of course, FBLA has provided me with limitless knowledge on leadership and business. This has helped me prepare for my future by giving me valuable leadership opportunities that will help me in college and beyond. Serving as a local chapter officer and attending several conferences has taught me the valuable skills that will help me make new friends, stand out as a leader, and communicate effectively with my peers. FBLA has also helped me make long-lasting friendships. I have grown extremely close with my fellow officers
This afternoon I had a conversation with Matthew De Jesus’s grandmother regarding Matthew not finishing his exit ticket on time, so I kept him in UD. I also let his grandmother know that Matthew received a correction in Science because he was being disruptive in class by humming. This I called mom earlier in the afternoon to follow up about the conversation that I had with his grandmother.
A plan for leadership, or, an analysis of leadership, were the two options available for the final portfolio project of class ORG 561, Examination of Modern Leadership. I selected option number 2, a plan for leadership, in which a new organizational leadership plan will be presented and developed in an effort to provide guidance to upper management to address a number of organizational concerns. The portfolio will entail an evaluation of an overflowing pediatric emergency department facing the challenges of meeting capacity needs as well as the needs of staff members. Specific issues to be addressed include high staff turnover, ineffective continuing education opportunities, poor communication channels between staff and
Leadership is the process by which one person can influence an individual or a group into the completion of a goal or an objective. The ability to inspire and motivate others stems from his or her capacity to efficiently manage time and people. I was recently placed in a leadership position, where I facilitate a group of clients who are low-functioning schizophrenic adults at a mental institution. My role as a group facilitator, which I sometimes view as teaching, is to guide and teach members the different coping skills for their illnesses. It is also my responsibility to make sure that members participate and are able to achieve their desired goals. My greatest challenge as a leader is understanding the importance of group dynamics.
The purpose of this personal assessment is to devalue an incident in which I believe I performed my very best, within my leadership capability, according to organizational policies, and lawful regulatory compliance while protecting cultural competence and our organization from any legal repercussions. Business environment will continue evolve and it is pivotal to the success of the organization that all potential leaders acquire the fundamentals of understanding human behaviors within a multicultural atmosphere. Different situations will arise in which leadership will need to focus on the many aspects of one’s personal beliefs, culture as a whole, and productivity at the least. What is evident is the diversity within
When reflecting on my experience as both a student and a life learner, I never would have considered myself a leader. In fact, I have always been the shy kid who hides in the back of the class and panics whenever it is their turn to respond to a question. College however provided me with an opportunity to develop myself as a leader. I became more active in school activities and actively sought out leadership roles. As I’ve progressed in my professional life, I’ve become more interested in what it takes to make a strong leader. When assuming leadership roles, I’ve always considered myself an authentic leader but I know I’ve often struggled in detailing clear goals for my group or organization. Thankfully, Enrolling in the effective
