The purpose of this paper is to help provide microeconomic analysis of Netflix Company to give an insight of the business market in which it operates. Ever want to rent a DVD and not have to worry about the return date, or stream a favorite TV show on the go? Now that dream is a reality thanks to Netflix allows people to rent DVD and Blu-ray without having to worry about the late fee or due dates. Have you ever forgot to return that (VHS) tape to the video store on time? Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings did just that and was charged $40 for Apollo 13; this late fee sparked the idea of movie-rental business by mail (Fortune magazine, 2010). In 1997, Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph started an online movie rental business, which revolutionized how the world watches its entertainment. At the time of launch, Net-Flix was using the strategy of unlimited exchange of movies with the customer’s subscription, and they have not settled on their signature name and look. By 2004, Netflix settle into its signature look and still using the slogan no late fees- “EVER!” (Business-insider, 2016).
