A rationale for the development of promotion OTC medications
Over-The-Counter (OTC) medications have always been around for over decades. There are urgent care emergency clinics that will see patients, but about 10 percent of patients seen at the clinic each day come for unnecessary appointments, meaning having visits from symptoms that can be cured through OTC medications. OTC medications are easily accessible to where you can go to any convenient store, even small gas stations, and find packets of medications that are could aid in the symptom arising. The CHPA website provides a statistic on the accessibility of OTC medications by stating “The availability of OTC medicines—off the shelf, without a prescription—provides symptomatic relief for an estimated 60 million people who otherwise would not seek treatment.” The problem is “Self-treating patients face challenges of choosing among diverse products and ingredients, which may be compounded by low health literacy” (Albert, Bix, Bridgeman,;et.al, 2014). Younger adults are buying medications from “hear-say” and from relying on their elders to give them correct information on the medication being taken. When in fact the younger people between the ages of 25-39 had a better literacy score, the score still shows that the population including older adults and younger adults are not fully comprehending the health information provided on the bottle. Albert, Bix, Bridgeman,;et.al, 2014 states that “Low health literacy is typically considered important because it interferes with communication of important health information,” which should be comprehendible when reading the products. There are “approximately 54,000 pharmacies in the United States. In addition, there are more than 750,000 retail outlets that sell OTC products,” as the CHPA website provides. Many doctors recommend OTC medications when they feel that a prescription is not needed to give to the patients. Having marketing showing that it is not a problem to ask questions on medications would give people confidence on wanting better knowledge on what they are consuming in their body, whether it causes an adverse effect or not.

2. Understand the issue at hand.
3. Figure out solutions to educate the population on OTC medications.
4. Consult with Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians within their region to promote the project “OTC Medications.”
5. Want to see the project succeed, therefore all members must have a great leadership and personal skills, a positive attitude, and dependable.
6. Have a great understanding of why the project came about and find ways to build upon the project in a positive manner.
7. Have a great sense of creativity when marketing the project.
