The chapter consists of requirements, criteria, factors, elements, and principles that gives insight on how to solve the Final Design project. The conceptual framework is a tentative theory (answer) for the research and design questions and represents the knowledge gained on how to solve a practical problem in the specific situation. 4.1 Programme The programme for the final project have been identified as commercial, specifically healthcare design that focus on the paediatric aspect of the specific program. 4.1.1 Specific Program This section will discuss the theoretical aspect of the specific programme, meaning healthcare design. 4.1.1.1 Hospital functions A wide range of services and functions is what hospitals are made up from off. The following is the universal functions that can be found in a hospital: i. Diagnostics & treatment function • Clinical laboratories • Imaging • Emergency rooms • Surgery ii. Hospitality Function • Food services • Housekeeping iii. Inpatient care/ bed-related function iv. Outpatient-related function v. Administrative functions vi. Research and teaching functions The diagram shows the communication and movement between the different functions. (Carr 2011) 4.1.1.2 Technical requirements This section will discuss the overall technical requirements of the hospital. i. Acoustics and visual privacy Healthcare facilities must provide adequate sound level and acceptable visual isolation in order to reach unrestricted
3. Patient refrains from using any environmental hazards detrimental to her health. Environment remains safe and comfortable.
Human factors are a serious reason to approach building design from several different angles. Understanding regulatory requirements will help the planning team meet the different codes required to build or remodel. Color selection and noise control affect the environment for both patients and employees so this must be selected carefully to impact the health and wellness of those who are interacting in the health care space. Purchasing the correct the equipment for the space and the employees to use on a daily basis is imperative to the budget of the facility planning process. Identifying the
C. The framework does an excellent job of stating and describing the relationships between the various concepts of interest. The framework was developed over a nine-year period of time and involves many different groups and institutions.
Being in the health sector makes the law very important for the running of the organisation. Hospitals are the centre of epidemics and diseases which makes this law very important in the operation of the organisation. Therefore, the organisation has installed equipment that maintains the hygiene of its hospitals.
Dietary employees that bring the patients food tray should also make sure that everything is within reach. While they are in the room they should also ask if the patient needs to go to the bathroom, if they are in pain, and do they need to change their position before leaving the room. At that point if the patient is needing anything that they cannot perform for them they should inform primary nurse. Housekeeping while in the room cleaning should do the same as dietary, with both housekeeping and dietary make sure that the patient are ask about the 4P’s there should be a decrease in the call lights.
Develop an innovative facility by improving the work space with state of the art facility. Thus making sure the patients
Focusing on management and staff providing an informative, safe and comfortable environment for the patients.
There are some areas that can benefit from updating systems, procedures, and additional training. One main concern that had been brought to the attention to the administration is on space utilization, including the need for additional space. There are currently two quiet rooms on the cottage for the adolescents that are designed to allow a patient to enter the room to take a personal timeout or staff directed timeout. The issue at this time is that the quiet rooms is being utilized by patients that requires a low stimulation environments. Meaning that this particular patient is currently not at a stage that allows the patient to safely live with peers. This situation takes away from patients being able to utilize quiet rooms on an as-needed basis. The administration has approved construction, the construction is currently ongoing, to add additional square footage to the cottage that will provide additional rooms that will be the low stimulation environments for patients to live
The appropriate framework developed by Chris Garner, i.e. Potential of the students multiplied by their Efforts is equal to Success for normal students whereas for the Indigenous people, it is the same formula further adding the most important element such as the “Relevance to own Context.” Therefore, this strategy will make indigenous students to be motivated and engaged in pursuing their career. The three main terms to be considered while understanding this framework are Cultural awareness, Cultural respect and Cultural competence. Cultural awareness is defined as the “sensitivity to the similarities and differences that exist between two different cultures and the use of this sensitivity in effective communication with members of another cultural group.” Whereas cultural competence, explained earlier means “becoming aware of the cultural differences that exist, appreciating and having an understanding of those differences and accepting them. It also means being prepared to guard
Over the course of one’s professional career as a healthcare worker under the National Health Society (NHS), certain level of responsibilities and requirements are needed. One of the main expectations for working in the health field is to demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD). CPD refers to the ongoing process of actively documenting and reflecting upon healthcare experiences in order to further promote professional learning and understanding (HCPC, 2014). To aid in personal development and career progression, the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) was established. The KSF is a comprehensive and detailed framework that outlines the role and duties of various staff groups in the NHS (Department of Health, 2004). The KSF is
Noises are one of the most prominent concerns that patients had. In order to solve this problem, Tinsley should make a regulation for employees to talk at a lower voice. In addition, in order to reduce the noise coming from moving wheels of stretchers, wheelchairs, and carts through the hallways; lubricants must be applied to the wheels regularly to keep them smooth and soundless. Since the buzzer system rings loudly in the hallway as well, a system can be implemented in order for them to ring only at the nurses’ desks so that other patients would not be bothered by the noise.
Depending on the size, structure and functions of the health facility, there may be a
Many challenges and barriers can exist when a hospital tries to create a healing environment. Building hospitals with these amenities may cost more up front, but in the long run the costs can be recouped in a couple of years from the savings. These savings will be seen with lower drug costs (pain and anxiety medication) due to the relaxing environment, fewer patient falls because of family members who stay with the patients, and reduced staff turnovers related to the relaxing environment. Research from the Center for Health Design has shown that the more attractive the environment, the higher the perceived quality of care and the lower the anxiety of patients, which will increase patient and staff satisfaction (Geimer-Flanders 2009). Another challenge will be the noise which will come from building this new environment via a new addition or reconstruction. Though it will only be temporary, it will still impact those patients and staff members during the time of construction.
One of the main goals of healthcare facilities is to provide the patients with a “healing environment”. The goal of the healing environment is to remove the patient from all the toxic and hazards to give them time to heal. Three concepts that help creating a stable environment will be explain in this paper. These concepts are the seen environment, the unseen environment, and the storied environment.
This report will discuss the following theory in assisting the planning of a community level event;
