1. Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle. My role as a teacher In her book Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning sector 2011 (P9), Ann Gravells explains that “Your main role as a teacher should be to teach your subject in a way that actively involves and engages your students during every session.” Beyond this, my role as a teacher of business management extends to firstly being an exemplar of good management practice, behaviour and conduct. I would need to be a positive role model to my students in interpersonal relationships, organisation, time management, leadership and other aspects of the role of a manager. My role as a teacher also extends to …show more content…
Using my personal presence, presonal example, charisma and tools such as ground rules, I need to create the right first impression to ensure that my learners are aware of their responsibilities within the learning environment. I try to create an environment of support, collaboration and mutual respect. I am responsible for ensuring inclusivity of the learners and celebrating their diversity. I have a duty of care in respect of my learners and should get advice and guidance from my fellow professionals in areas I am unsure of. The environment should be in accordance with Health and Safety requirements allowing free movement and access, no trip hazards, safe, tested electrical equipment. I need to create a psychologically safe environment without intimidation or disrespect. I would do this by challenging inappropriate behaviour and encouraging positive behaviour. I could also refer learners back to the ground rules. Depending on the learning needs / progress of individuals I might need to adapt and target some parts of the course content. I need to minimise jargon and adapt my language and style to the needs of the participants. I need to create opportunities for networking, self-development and experimentation. I must also be aware of any perceived or real barriers to learning and make appropriate interventions. To do this I would confer with teaching assistants or ‘privately’ discuss any issues directly with learners.
Roles and responsibilities are important because they would allow for order in any given organisation and also for personal and organisational objectives to be met. Actions and activities assigned to or required or expected of a person or
This is where I set up a positive classroom atmosphere allowing the students to feel comfortable learning and communicating with everyone. I will find a way to engage every student to each lesson taught. Educators need to know how to motivate their students. The class has a diverse group of students and I will be flexible to accommodate their unique characteristics. Discipline also helps the dynamics in the classroom. Having a good discipline program will make the students feel comfortable to express themselves when there are rules and consequences. When a student breaks a rule, it is important for me to follow through with the predetermined consequence. All the students will feel free to participate in discussions when they feel comfortable to voice their
The initial introduction into my class reveals it to be a safe environment. There really is no dumb question in the learning environment, learning that if one student needs to ask the question, there are at least two more who need to hear the answer. As a student in paramedic school, things did not come as quickly to me and I was always left not sure if I understood the concept. But I was afraid to ask questions. This is especially why I make the classroom pressure free, nonjudgemental and open for all questions. The environment needs to be fun, open, inviting, but held to the educational standards for learning. This, I make sure the students are aware of on the very first
Mutual respect, trust, comfort, and freedom to participate in the learning process should be evident the learning environment. The learning environment should encourage learners to use each other as resources. The learning environment should be effective and efficient. Adults have short attention spans due to everyday pressures. The educator should come across an authority figure but as resource for gaining knowledge. Adults are students, but they are not children. Treat them as adult learners.
The role of ‘teacher’ is an infinitely varied one, but there certain principles which underpin all aspects of the teaching role.
As a teacher I have roles, responsibilities and boundaries affecting my learners, which I aim to explore using the various pieces of legislation, regulations and codes of practice, then analyse my own experience and reflective ideas.
The teaching and learning cycle is about how we assess and teach learners and the different stages of teaching and learning. There are four stages in the teaching and learning cycle: initial and diagnostic assessment, course and lesson planning, teaching and learning, and assessment and review (summative and formative assessment). Each stage is key in determining what happens in the next stage and that ‘the cycle involves a complex interweaving of the two’: teaching and learning (Derrick and Gawn, in Schwab and Hughes 2010: 282. Gravells suggest that for teaching and learning to be effective, all stages must be addressed (Gravells 2012).
are committed to providing a respectful, encouraging learning environment that promotes student achievement, inclusion, self-efficacy and confidence. We will strive to create a classroom climate that measures high in addressing Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. For instance, in order to meet our students’ physiological needs, our classroom environment will be clean, orderly, free of distractions and well provisioned with easy-to-access supplies. To meet our students’ need for safety, we will be fair, consistent, nurturing and respectful. We will strive to keep the learning environment free of emotional and/or physical threats or bullying of any kind. We will communicate our grading and discipline policies clearly so all students understand our behavior/performance expectations and consequences. To promote belongingness, we will model acceptance, affection and appreciation of all members of the classroom community. We will strive to ensure each community member feels recognized and respected by arranging group exercises, maintaining a feeling of lightheartedness and fun, and encouraging interactions and friendships among community
emphasizing and redefining the roles of the teacher. I will also express what is my view of point about teacher's role and how teaching experience has changed my perception of it.
Creating and maintaining an environment for students to work in is a very important part to the success of classroom management. According to Guthrie, “maintaining a learning environment requires teachers to actively monitor their students” (Guthrie, 2003, pg. 301). This means that an elementary school teacher must keep a close eye on what students are learning and ethical behavior being presented by the students. Jeff South said, “The goal of my class is to awaken conscience- that inner voice that tells students right from wrong” (South, 2004). When creating a learning environment, teachers should be concerned with the room arrangement, how inviting the room appears
Teaching is a very honorable profession which reflects the positive characteristics of those who educate. It is a difficult job that requires knowledge, dedication, integrity and patience. I want to become a teacher (particularly elementary school) because I want to make a difference in society and I love to work with children. I believe that by using things such as atmosphere and innovative teaching methods, an instructor can be informative and still have fun. This is how I see myself as a primary school teacher.
Let me begin with the content of what I believe should be taught within my learning environment. I believe that all questions should always be valued within a class room. When I was younger I was always afraid to ask a teacher a question due to the fact that they would make me feel belittled or dumb. No student should ever feel that kind of pressure from another person, let alone their own teacher. Every student is different in the way that their minds work, how they learn, and what tools they need in order to succeed in life. I would ensure that each student always received the full help they needed in order to grow to their fullest potential. I believe, certain pillars should be instilled to have a supporting system in order to help children grow. They need to understand about respect, honor, discipline, and how to implement leadership skills. I would emphasize that each student would ask questions, respect others, and keep an open and professional relationship with myself, while trying to understand each child’s needs.
Communities currently, are filled with intelligent individuals that work together forming a system that sustains a society. Intelligence is within everyone however, in order to reach their level of intelligence, one must receive guidance in learning. Those who guide others in learning the essential information needed to sustain a daily living are known as teachers or educators. Teaching is not a career choice, it is a calling that requires many traits. In this statement, I will express what influenced my interest in becoming a teacher as well as my approaches in education, teaching and learning. In addition to this I will also inform on the various traits a teacher should possess in order to successfully fulfill their role as an educator.
The duties I must perform primarily to be a teacher is to teach children well. I must also have enough time to dedicate to the children and teach them fun subjects so they can learn better. My responsibilities will be not to let any student delay in their work, to have a lot of communication with them, and to teach late classes so that the students do their jobs well. The things I can do to be a teacher is to help some students to progress. One job I can do before I become a teacher is to start helping the teachers in my classroom and to help teach some students in my school.
I thought it was useful to set up a course file which contain all the documentation that is needed to deliver the course. This includes the syllabus, session plan, scheme of work, assignments handouts and activities. All the record of my learners are kept alphabetically so that I can easily access the learners information easily. I tend to keep certain information about my learners such as their application form, interview, Initial assessment, assessment records, action plan, tutorials, and review notes. I always make sure that I have some extra stationery hand as many of my students tend to forget to bring it with them. There are so many characteristics that make up an effective teacher. I always have additional worksheets prepared for my learners to carry out just in case the session finished earlier than expected. Teachers are addressed with many names such as assessor, coach, facilitator, counsellor mentor however it is necessary that I must work within my professional boundaries. It is about knowing where my role stops as a tutor. For instant make call to a learner to find out why they have not turned up, but continuously ringing the learner is not appropriate. I always make sure that I follow organisational requirements and policies. Below are some boundaries of a teacher:
