Every action a person takes is the result of having thought about what it is they think they should do and then doing it. Life is riddled with problems that require solving. Decisions are complex matters that require careful judgment and problem analysis especially when one is in a role where others look up to them and are affected by their decisions. My first artifact is a copy of an e-mail I sent to one of the parents whose son was struggling in school. In this e-mail I analyzed his needs and tried to establish parameters for solutions to the problem. This shows my ability to frame issues and suggesting action plan. My second artifact is a PowerPoint presentation that I did for the paraprofessionals in our building. Last year at the beginning of the school year a lot of behavior issues were coming up at recess. Our principal and I tried to address those as they came up but the number of kids getting sent to the office from playground kept going up. In a discussion with our principal I suggested that it would be better if supervision paraprofessional had the ability to address some of these issues right there and then. So we decided to provide some behavior management training to paraprofessionals. Our principal agreed to pay them for attending the training and I put together this presentation. I stayed in regular touch with paraprofessionals after the training and checked in with them on regular basis. I continued to help with problem solving around student behavior. I
We’re always told to “think before you act” by an authority figure as children. Though most of the time, these words get brushed off, they’re still very important to remember. Without thinking, people have made, and will continue to make, very bad decisions. Thinking before you act is important because it can improve your quality of life, can prove you have a good character, and that you have control over what is going on.
Hammond, Keeney & Raiffa (2013) stated it is best to make a decision after you have considered all viewpoints, take a biased outlook, remain objective, and do not make a rational decision based on comfortability. Furthermore, our decision making affects the core of the issue, the way a person think proceed their ability to be effective. Change your way of thing, how you arrive by connecting your thought process, then you are able to develop an effective decision (Hammond, et al., 2013) In additional to your ability to think rationally, is also your inability to project, thinking beyond your ability to produce, previous decision by digging deeper into a bad decision without recovering the lost (Hammond, et al.,
Albert Einstein once said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” There are so many things in the known world to make a decision on. There are things like choosing what to eat for lunch or what to wear but there are also things like should you buy a car or if you should marry someone. No matter where anyone is there will alway have to be decisions made. Once it has been chosen on what to do, then there are consequences that come with making that choice. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, the character Hamlet is a very indecisive man. There are many reasons for one to be unsure of what to decide. One decision can change a person’s whole life. So it is very easy to be indecisive in choosing what
The artifact that I have chosen that shows I have meet HTSB Standard 9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice is from my Introduction into Classroom Management. The artifact Service Learning best shows that I have met this standard. In this assignment I spent time in a Kindergarten classroom to observe and help the teacher. The school that I choose was E.B. de Silva on the Big Island of Hawai`i. During the 5 days that I was a part of the classroom, I observed classroom management strategies that the teacher, Ms. Azama, used to in her classroom including how her classroom was set up and certain procedures that she had in place. I also interviewed her on advice that she could give me on working with parents and how to deal with disruptive
Explain how your decision-making strategies may differ based on the decisions being made (eg. Where should I eat? What should I do with my life?)
Overall, I believe that I appeared professional. For instance, I clearly communicated my thoughts/ideas and answered the questions thoughtfully. However, in my opinion, I appeared a bit nervous. Thus, I would certainly continue to practice my interviewing skills to ease my anxiety and nervousness and subsequently exude a more confident demeanor during interviews.
I am a responsible person. Well I like to think I am. I didn’t think there was any type of advance thought process during decision making till a little after my high school experience. I thought it was either what I thought was right or wrong, what would hurt or what would not. When I was asked to do this assignment, it
The general trend for scholars was to either explain or expound on theories of the previous scholars but Professor of nursing Gary Rolfe (2001) designed a reflective model to simplify the learning cycle. This version of the reflective cycle was comprised of three questions that ask the reflective practitioner: What, So what, and Now what? (Rolfe 2001)The idea is that through these questions we gain a description of the situation ultimately leading to critic of the situation as well as the f knowledge that has been gained through this experience.
Then when you are uncertain you take a risk a lot of the time. But even though reasoning, and decision-making are separate processes they are very similar. The reason behind this is that to make a good decision you have to have reasoning behind why you picked that certain answer. For example if you had a problem, which would decide your housing situation, you have to see what were the best choices. So you see the pros and cons then with those you make your decision. Decisions are made after reasoning is given on why it’s a good or bad
In order to enhance my professional development, I attended a Guest-Speaker Event at the University of Louisville on July 24th, 2015 that aimed to promote networking among various business persons. Prior to attending the guest speaker-event, I researched about the guest speaker Mr. Ray Hernández. The stature and qualifications of Hernandez influenced me to choose the event. In addition, the vent had been publicized on the university’s website, and upon seeing it, I called the university’s business department to ask them to attend. I have been a keen follower of the university, and I had received an e-mail after having been placed on their mailing lists to receive e-mail. The event was convened to enhance the personal professional development.
Decision making sometimes can be very complicated for me. I have been told that I think too much when it comes to making a simple decision. For me I need to analyze what can and will happen about many choices I make in life. Sometimes it takes me a long time to come up with a solution and it drives some people crazy. I can’t help it I need to really think about what may happen if I choose wrongly. How will my decision affect me and others? I work with impressionable students and they look up to me for advice and assistance. I have to constantly listen intently to other people with my job to make sure I understand the problem or issue. With my position I must use ethical perspectives to solve every day problems with my students / clients. Before I can suggest anything I must thoroughly understand what is at risk. Then I must choose my words accordingly so that they can maximize the best results from our conversations.
It is never easy to make decisions in life, especially life changing decisions. The decision making process is a very difficult process that is used by everyone in one way or another. Some people may alter the decision making process in order to fit their own needs and their own personal circumstances, but there is a model that has been provided in order to show the basic steps.
Mohamad Sidani showed us the practical side of what we learnt in the course regarding decision making. For example, while studying, we learn the concepts in a general manner. However, the challenge is in applying them to each circumstance we face. As he explained, the process of taking a decision follows the same concept we have learnt, however; not word by word. It is more spontaneous and to him it’s very important to take his time, when possible, to study the different alternatives and their possible outcomes. In addition, he weighs the possible benefits against the risk of each option. After making up his mind, he keeps the decision to himself and makes sure it’s the best solution before announcing and implementing it. He admits that intuition is one of the factors he bases his decisions on and sum up to 20%. However, it’s not enough if it’s not backed up by something
People make decisions every day, some bigger than others. Most are decided quite quickly, like deciding if you want a coffee or not. But when we’re faced with a difficult decision, like deciding what to study, choosing your career path or picking out a place to live, we tend to get stuck in all the possibilities and don’t know what to choose. Some people try to approach this in a rational way, like writing down all the possibilities and their pro’s and con’s and
Good decision making is one of the factors that we teachers must attain. Good decision making makes the teachers a good agent of learning to students and good decision making makes the teachers more effective in teaching-learning processes. We often think before we decide. Although in some cases, we make snap decisions maybe because of factors that affect our abilities to decide on a choice. Likewise, if we encountered a problem in teaching whereas the solution is a making a decision that can somehow affect you and your students but because of a factor, like time constraints, you need to decide fast. Do you still think of it critically and analyze each of the choices you have or not?
