Famous athletes earn enormous amount of money compared to significant professionals of the society. With, some individuals think that it is reasonable due to the degree of time and effort they’ve put into their training. However, I am personally convinced that it is unjust to other professionals who safeguard the welfare of the people.
Paying sports professionals more than other notable experts has its negative influences to the public. First, this gives more value to entertainment other than productive activities, such as education and obtaining technical skills. For instance, people would neglect the importance of updating themselves with the currents events to watch their favorite athletes play. Second, it discourages young people to study,
Professional athletes in the United States are given extremely substantial contracts and lucrative endorsement deals and it has been argued that their salaries should be reduced to smaller wages but others say they are paid accordingly. The argument that athletes are overpaid not only exists in the United States but also all over the world. Most countries however do not have the variety of major sports that the U.S. has. When athletes are being paid millions of dollars each year, it raises an important discussion. This discussion is about how we value and compensate athletes and whether or not their salary is too much. This also leads to an argument asking if American priorities are altered by the significant difference of athletes
One may think that the athlete itself is actually paid with what the athlete is rewarded within the end. The academic counseling and tutoring directly affects a student athletes’ grades, with better grades come better job opportunities, if the athlete does not go professional. If the athlete does decide to pursue a professional career, they will also receive free professional coaching, strength and fitness training, and support from athletic trainers and physical therapists” while training for a pro-day or combine. This again proves that athletes do not deserve more pay.
Imagine a workers boss getting paid from his or her success while the worker gets nothing in return. If you have not realized already that is a pretty basic definition of a pimp and that is exactly what the NCAA does to their athletes (Latham). The NCAA should pay their college athletes for their hard work.
Student athletes have been disrespected their whole career, even though College athletic is considered a money maker of a business, the athletes don’t even get paid, some say it is because paying them will reduce the amount of competitiveness, some say they aren’t employees so they shouldn’t get paid. Even the full scholarships they are getting has flaws. Overall the colleges are just too greedy.
In Joe Nocera’s article, “Let’s Start Paying College Athletes”, he argues that college athletes should be paid for playing sports. Nocera begins his article by providing an example of how some athletes will receive money that is perfectly fine while other athletes cannot accept any money or else that player will be in violation of NCAA rules. It’s evident that there are large amounts of money involved in the college sports. Top college coaches can make as much or more than professional coaches. Together with men’s basketball, College football have become huge commercial enterprises generating huge amounts of annual revenue (Nocera, 2011).
The idea of paying players in college sports has been around since they have started. People have different opinions on if they should or should not be paid and through their tone, experience, and how they use their information to see if these athletes should get paid. Jay Bilas a sport broadcaster with years of experience believes that in this billion dollar industry the only people not getting paid are the ones, people pay to see and he also believes athletes would stay in school longer. While on the other hand Kieran McCauley believes that even though they shouldn’t be paid they could be compensated and that school isn’t a place to get paid it’s a place to learn and get a jumpstart into the real world. They are both similar with who their audience and who the way they approach the topic looking for the betterment of
Are college athlete’s players or employees? The idea of paying a college athlete appears to be outrageous to some. The thought of giving someone money for something they have chosen to do may not appear to be fair. The greatest concern is where to draw the line. Should the decision be based on the amount of money and fame the program generates? Why should athletes be treated special and receive compensation for their contribution to the school? One major factor is that athletes make numerous sacrifices beyond that of a nonathletic student. Many athletes can’t seek employment to help offset the expenses of college because they are on the field or court for the majority of their day.
Your body screams with every step. You gasp for the air you desperately long for. The urge to collapse to the ground, with your heart pounding in your ears. The pain drips from your chin, and drops onto the ground with a single, tiny splash. But you keep running through the bitter weather who is wearing you down. This is the daily warm-up every athlete has to power through to stay in their top-condition. In return, many professional athletes get paid millions of dollars. But, some people think that these athletes are being paid exorbitant amounts of money, whom they don’t deserve, because they believe high salaries should go to doctors and firefighters, who save the lives of others in their excruciating work. While others believe that athletes’ sacrifices to their health, and their dedicated time and energy to achieve their goals and dreams should be definitely be rewarded with a higher salary than most people. To look into the future, it is obvious that this issue’s outcome will open up revealing truths about an athlete’s salary. However, athletes are definitely not overpaid. If their salary was any lower, their hard work and bloodshed would go unnoticed. The risks of their overall health they experience daily would never be supported if those risks become a reality.
In order to alleviate this problem, student-athletes should be paid. Deals worth 11 billion dollars are being signed with networks such as CBS, all because these athletes are willing to sacrifice and strive as much as they do. Most students are truly blessed and appreciate the chance to perform on such a large stage, however, they wish not to be slave of a corporation. How is it that one player can bring in million dollars of revenue, more than many make in a life time, but yet he wonders where his next meal will come
D1 colleges make hundreds of thousand even millions because of the players and the players get none of it. How is that fair to the players? I know you will all say that they already get a scholarship and that is enough but most scholarships are about twenty thousand dollars a year but most college players only stay in college for a year. Shabazz Napier the UConn basketball star, says that he went to bed starving most nights. Shabazz was a role model to many kids in America and was almost at the point of being famous. Yet he still couldn’t afford to go get something for dinner after practice. Many people would say to get a job, how are you supposed to get a job when you have school, workouts, and practices or games
Did you that pro athletes make about the average 5.25 million dollars? I think that they should get paid that much because they risk their lives.
It is true that more sporting champions now pay more attention to play for the money the get paid than what records they can break or whether they can win a match. This kind of phenomenon actually not that astonish to the public. Recent research reveals that more graduated students are more willing to choose jobs which can offer them high paid and ignore whether the students themselves are interested in the job or not. It is the same reason for those athletes.
I disagree with the way that athletes are paid. Athletes are not really good role models towards children in their youth. Every individual does not like or even watch sports. A huge portion of athlete’s paychecks are uneven. So now you understand why my opinion disagrees with the way that athletes are being paid, and thank you for my
In today’s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for demanding
The passages present a discussion about arguments concerning whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. This is an important debate since professional sports represents a multi-billion-dollar-per-year industry. The two positions argue whether or not professional athletes should be paid the large yearly salaries they are paid. Both viewpoints have valid claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence suggests that people with far more important jobs are paid much less than professional athletes; in contrast, opposing evidence suggests that since professional athletes generally have short careers and must train very hard to build and maintain their skills, the higher salary is justified. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the viewpoint that professional athletes are not overpaid is the best-supported position, the position supported by the preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. The strongest and best reasons supporting this position are that professional athletes must endure grueling and intensive training, they generally have short careers that often end in injury, and the amount that they are thought to be paid is often inflated. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be discussed next.
