Through reading my novel Raw for the last 3 weeks, I have struggled to make a personal connection to the reading material. I couldn't say that my life has involved me robing a liquor store or being sent to a rehab farm in the middle of a rural countryside in Sydney. In fact, my life is quite different from Brett’s. Brett is the main character in Raw. He is a troubled 16 year old that dropped out of school not too long ago. Because of this, I would classify Brett as a rebel. The character of Brett relates to a person in my life that grew up a reckless teenager, and has now evolved into a kind gentlemen and a proud father. This man that he reminds me of is my uncle. They are quite similar because as the story goes, Brett was a wild teenager that made out to be untameable but Sam (the warden of the farm), saw deep down that he is a good kid. In the end he pulled his head into line and picked up a lot of essential life skills from the rehab farm.

He seems to be right. Today’s world has been overrun by social issues such as hunger, segregation and depression. Stacey was a 12-year-old boy who is loyal throughout the entire book. Stacey knew that there would be many consequences for the things he did.

Chapter 9 of Foster’s book is all about the weather and how it affects the story. Foster claims that “weather is never just weather” (Foster, 70). As he says this, he also explains how rain carries a deeper meaning when it is presented in a setting, and that is the same for fog, lightning, and sunshine. In Frankenstein, weather promotes a deeper meaning when Victor’s brother dies. Victor exclaims, “William, dear angel! Unfourntently Brady's negative character traits cause him to lose popularity over the course of the trial. These negative traits are arrogance, need for attention, and closed-mindedness.

Ever since my passion began in the 7th grade, the amazing people I have come across, stories I have heard, and memories I have made fishing are innumerable. A few of the many guys I have met fishing have become valuable mentors to me, which of whom I have bonded with and become closer to. I have shared lots of experiences by spending time and traveling with these men, shaping me as a person. As humans, we learn so much from one another, and through fishing I have learned not only many old traditions and modern fishing methods, but life skills that I use in my day-to-day

The first half of The Perfect Storm is not the one of the favorite things I have read; nevertheless, as I proceed through the first half of the novel, it becomes more interesting. I have never been connected to fishing and that is one of the reasons I do not enjoy the book so far. Also, I would rather read fiction over nonfiction, but if the book is interesting and talks about information I am enjoy, I could read that book that for hours. So far, The Perfect Storm has started off a bit slow for me, there is not much action and gives a very detailed daily routine of a fisherman, which is not one of my interests. However, once the fisherman of the Andrea Gail, Billy, Bobby, “Sully,” “Bugsy,” and Pierre board their ship for their journey, there is little action that makes me want to read. After they are in the water the daily routine is more interesting and begins to make me want to read. The first half of the The Perfect Storm was not able to grab me right away, however, when
