Characterization Analysis Essay A great fisherman named Harry Middleton once said a very popular quote, “Fishing is not an escape from life, but often a deeper immersion into it.” This quote is true to many fisherman out there, because every fisherman goes fishing to find themselves and get lost in their own thoughts. Being a perfect fisherman is a very complicated thing to do, a perfect fisherman has to be strong, passionate, brave, smart and have a lot of life experience. The book The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger, a true story about fishermen, has many perfect fishermen with all of those characteristics. Just three of the perfect fishermen in The Perfect Storm are Bobby Shatford, Billy Tyne and Dale Murphy, otherwise known as Murph. If a fisherman or captain does not have a lot of experience they could put the entire crew in danger of dying by making mistakes. Billy Tyne, captain of the Andrea Gail has a lot of experience with fishing. Pages forty eight and forty nine are just some of Billy Tyne’s experience in fishing, “Billy Tyne’s been out of the Grand Banks dozens of times before, and he's also fished off the Carolinas, Florida, and deep into the Caribbean… for eight years, Cannon taught him everything he knew. After his long apprenticeship Tyne decided to go out on his own…” (Junger 48). Tyne has had eight years of teachings from a fellow fisherman before he decided to get his own ship, eight years is a lot of time to learn how to fish correctly. He has also been out fishing in many different places, sometimes the same place more than once. All of these hard years of learning to fish and actually fishing in other places is a lot of experience.
