I have noticed that climate change has been a big issue this year. I think it's very important to talk about Global warming and be aware of the causes of it. We all should want to take care of this earth, because we are the ones living here. We should make people more aware of the greenhouse effect and how it can affect us.
Consequently, in September of this year, Florida had some devastating hurricanes that wiped out thousands of homes, businesses, and schools. According to Monmonier's book, “Coast lines: how mapmakers frame the world and chart environmental change,” He predicted that the sea levels were rising at an unprecedented rate, causing flooding around the world, including the coast of Florida and California (Monmonier pg. 131). The two main causes of global sea level rise are thermal expansion of the warming of the oceans and the lack of land-based ice due to melting. Due to global warming, our ice caps are melting, and our ocean temperatures are steadily increasing. (Monmonier pg. 131). So how can we help?
Second is air pollution, this is one of the biggest problems we are having today. Air pollution is caused by everything we do today. In the Earth’s atmosphere, a process called the Greenhouse effect occurs, it acts as a shield to trap in the heat from the sun, so it prevents the heat from going back into space. The Greenhouse effect occurs in nature as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. People say, “Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would be
Rising sea levels are caused by the melting of ice correspondingly with the rising temperature in the atmosphere. When the ocean water rises land begins to vanish, which puts not only the risk of land not being there, but the risk of the people living there. In the article “Global Warming Impacts” written by a group called, union of concerned scientist writes “Global warming is now accelerating the rate of sea level rise, increasing flooding risks to low-lying communities…”. The people that this will be affected are low-lying communities and one of those communities is the Marshall Islands. The Marshall Islands are located near the equator in the pacific ocean and close to being sea level. Since the temperature has warmed up steadily, some parts of this dilapidated island are being engulfed by the ocean. Furthermore, residents of the Marshall Islands are concerned. Numerous locals aren’t just concerned with their island potential evanesce, but with their island their culture. New York Times interviewed Linber Anej, who has lived on Marshall Islands his whole life, attended a conference in Paris representing his island's concern of the potential of evacuating their homes in the near future saying, “It does not make sense for us to go to Paris and come back with something that says, ‘In a few years’ time, your country is going to be underwater. We see the damage occurring now. We’re trying to beat back the sea.”. What ordinarily is being told is that instead of trying to bring awareness to
Climate change is a real problem facing our world with all of the progression of today’s society. The amount of Greenhouse Gas emissions has gone up drastically in the past one hundred years alone. The use of transportation, industry, electricity and the deprivation of the world's natural resources has increased the amount of Carbon Dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. The Environmental Protection Agency has shown an increase in the Earth's temperature by 0.8 degrees C in the past century alone. It is proven that humans are the cause of global warming but it is not too late to change how we are.
The hot-button controversial topic of climate change has far-reaching impacts on humans and animals alike that inhabit different regions around the world. As Earth’s temperature rises and sea ice melts away, the balance of life will be forever changed. The consequences of our global footprint will shape the way we live, eat and breathe in the near future if we do not effectively reduce the use of our resources. We are already witnessing the effects of climate changes which can be seen in the differing weather patterns such as extreme storms and prolonged droughts experienced across the world. As human beings, we make choices about how we treat the environment sometimes with little consequence and repeatedly decide to let future generations
Global climate change, something that most people in the world are not taking as seriously as they should. Many people believe that climate change is a phenomenon; a conspiracy theory to engage people into spending more money. When the world became industrialized, we lost our way on protecting our Earth, our only planet. Industrialization is why our environment is in critical condition. Advocating and government officials are necessary for a decrease of Greenhouse Gas emissions into our atmosphere. For our environment to thrive, changes need to happen and they can begin with yourself.
One of the most controversial and hot buzzer topics of today would be that of global warming. Although many believe global warming is real to some extent, it is a debated topic because just as many people believe that it is a fabricated government sham. Despite differing public opinion, "Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities, and most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position." (NASA) Considering this, global climate is very much a real occurrence due human presence on this earth, which is made evident through the increase in extreme weather patterns, the rise in carbon dioxide emissions
“Most of the observed warming that we have seen (verb) in the last 50 years is likely to be due to human activity, due to greenhouse gases,” claims Dr. David Karoly (noun), an expert in climate change. Some people believe that global (adjective) warming is just a naturally occurring thing on (preposition) Earth. However, humans are causing global warming because they (pronoun) are putting too much carbon dioxide in the air, the temperatures are increasing more rapidly than normal, and (conjunctions) the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Humans are the main cause of global warming.
Due to climate change, millions of people all over the world are suffering from issues with their health. In the United States, waves of relentless heat, mostly in the southern states, have a drastic effect upon more and more people each year. Many people believe that this is because each generation gets weaker than the one before; for example, about a year or so ago, there was a discussion about whether or not they should put air conditioning on school buses because children were passing out from the intense heat, many of adults from previous generation thought that the kids just needed to toughen up and that they had survived the heat growing up. That may be true, but school used to start in September, which is a bit cooler than August, and add to that the fact that the temperature gets even hotter every year. I do not believe that we get weaker; I believe that climate change gets worse. Climate change is not the only problem we face, however, global warming has been worsening the spread of fatal sicknesses across the globe. “Air pollution from fossil fuel burning is also causing millions of early deaths each year, while damage to crops from extreme weather threatens hunger for millions of children,” (Carrington n.p.).
Sea level continues to rise at a rate of just over one-eighth of an inch (3.4 mm) per year, due to a combination of melting glaciers and ice sheets, and thermal expansion of seawater as it warms. The effects of sea level rise due to global warming is on the verge of endangering the many lives living relatively in high-population-density coastal areas.Where sea level plays a role in flooding, shoreline erosion, and hazards from storms. Sea level has risen from two main reasons glaciers and ice sheets. Caused by the melting and adding water to the ocean and the volume of the ocean is expanding as the water warms. A third, much smaller contributor to sea level rise is a decline in water storage on land.
Abstract: Climate change is a serious problem that will affect all of the inhabitants and systems of Earth. Gaia was previously responsible for maintaining sustainability of the Earth’s systems, however, Gaia is losing its ability to maintain homeostasis because of these severe environmental changes that are taking place. There must be a push to educate people on what the anthropogenic causes of climate change are and how we can prevent them from negatively impacting our environment. People also need to understand the severe consequences of climate change, which include desertification, rising sea levels, more frequent severe weather, and the potential loss of our food supplies. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization also needs to push for regulations on fossil fuel emissions and help create incentives to prevent major corporations from polluting. Last, everyone needs to make an effort to cut back on their individual emissions by using more sustainable energy sources, cutting back on automobile use, and consuming fewer animal products.
Dear Mr. President, I know you have a lot on your plate in terms of leading the free world. From homeland security to the next economic crisis, your job entails the safeguarding of the American people. And as a country we’ve made huge advancements to medicine, technology and education. Despite these successes, we are still relegated on fossil fuels and other forms of non-renewable energy; the consumption of which leads to global warming and the depletion of these finite resources. Consequently, it becomes mandatory that alternate solutions must be researched in order to reserves a healthy world for future generations. And quite frankly, the way you’re dealing with it right now is not helping in the slightest. You can’t keep putting this on the back burner, because the longer this stews, the harder it will be to clean up. As a result, I urge you to act swiftly to solve this issue once and for all.
At this point, its very hard to argue against the harsh process of climate change and our impact, as human beings, in facilitating this process. This seems to be a time where action should be taken immediately to protect against the detrimental eventualities of climate change, since our planet depends on it. Unfortunately, the movement to help protect environment is diligently batted down by the hands of the Polluter Industrial Complex. The polluter industrial complex is a collection of politicians, corporations, lobbyist, etc. dedicated to efforts that would undermine the environmentalist movement. For someone looking at this situation from an environmentalist point of view, this is crazy. Empirical scientific research has shown that the climate is changing, its cause by human interaction with the environment, and it adversely impacts our ability to live on this planet in the future. Who would be against preventing this? Who would deny this? On December 6th, 2013, our current president, and avid tweeter, Donald Trump tweeted "Ice storm rolls from Texas to Tennessee - I'm in Los Angeles and it's freezing. Global warming is a total, and very expensive, hoax!”. You can pinpoint the reason why people like Trump would be against a movement that would try to preserve planet. In his tweet he notes that climate change is an “expensive’ hoax, this alone exploits the motor behind the Polluter Industrial Complex: Money. Members of this obstructive collective are looking out for
Global warming could result in catastrophe and death if we don’t start making a change to finally put an end to climate change. The consequences of global warming can already be seen today and this is only the beginning. We aren’t just hurting ourselves we are hurting our environment and all the animals in it. The levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are higher than they have been in centuries and it will only keep increasing. Nasa Tells us in their article Global Climate Change: Evidence, “it is extremely likely (greater than 95 percent probability) to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century.” We are damaging the earth and hurting our future generations. America as a country needs to focus on moving towards greener energy and away from fossil fuels but right now it doesn’t seem to be happening. We need to put an end to the corruption and greed in our country that allows such large support for fossil fuels and begin moving towards greener energy. Global warming is a dangerous manmade phenomenon that could have devastating effects if we don’t come together and to something to stop it.
Look outside, you can see the beautiful world we live in; you can hear children playing, birds chirping, and feeling of the cool breeze hitting your skin. The smell of fresh-cut grass runs its way through your nostril. Lastly, you close your eyes and embrace the world; then you take a deep breath and exhale. That’s a beautiful scene, right? However, today, due to global warming we will not able to experience that anymore. Global warming is a real issue today because of the amount of pollution we create, the future effects it will cause and becoming the uproar in political debates.
One can say that Global Warming is perhaps one of the most controversial topic of debate in our time. Some say that it’s a hoax started by China, while others say it is the greatest challenge facing our planet. However, The truth is that Global Warming is real. It is an inconvenient truth. Denying it won't make it wrong ( fixed). We can’t run away from it, but we can prevent exacerbating it . Change needs to happen fast ( and to do that we should act fast), and ( that means ) now. If not, the world will be difficult place to live in.
The Earth’s climate is determined by the receipt and distribution of the radiation received from the sun (Dunne, 2013). Light from the sun undertakes three corridors: 25% is absorbed by the atmosphere, 30% is reflected back into space and 45% is absorbed by the Earth’s surface (Dunne, 2013). The light absorbed by the Earth’s surface is converted into energy and used for the various biological processes. In the atmosphere, some gases have strong infrared radiation absorption ability and are able to absorb the infrared emitted by the Earth’s surface, and re-emit this infrared to the Earth’s surface, thus warming the Earth’s surface more than it otherwise would be (Botkin & Keller, 2014). These gases are referred to as greenhouse gases and this warming of the Earth’s surface is referred to as “The Greenhouse Effect”. Figure 1 below presents an illustration of this greenhouse effect. The greenhouse gases cause heat to become trapped between the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface, similar to how air is trapped in a greenhouse. It must be noted that the greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring phenomenon but it has been amplified by the addition of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere from human activities (Anderson, Hawkins & Jones, 2016). The natural greenhouse effect ensures that the Earth’s temperature is kept at a comfortable average of 140C, rather than the otherwise -210C (Anderson et al, 2016).
