Putting a Stop to Hunger There are many things that come to mind when thinking of an important issue that needs addressed nationally, globally, and locally. One issue that I could personally relate to eventually as a future educator, is the problem of hunger in our world. In our world, millions of people are starving and don’t know where their next meal is going to come from. In this essay, I will talk about this issue of hunger on the national, global, and local scale, the ways it is affecting our world, and the solutions I have found that could be beneficial in our community. To begin, we can start by looking at this issue of hunger globally. According to The Hunger Project, “Of the 815 million people suffering from chronic hunger, 98 …show more content…
(use capstone book) Although I only went into detail with the some of the causes of hunger, there are many more that come into play with this issue. As we wrap up hunger globally, here are a few statistics from food aid foundation to give you an idea of how much of the world are living in hunger. “The vast majority of the world's hungry people live in developing countries, where 12.9 percent of the population is undernourished. To focus this on a specific area, Asia is the continent with the most hungry people - two thirds of the total. The percentage in southern Asia has fallen in recent years but in western Asia it has increased slightly. Along with Asia, the Sub-Saharan Africa region is the region with the highest prevalence (percentage of population) of hunger. One person in four there is undernourished.” In fixing hunger worldwide, there is one charity that tries to fight hunger. This charity is called, Action Against Hunger. This charity attempts to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition. To move the scale down to nationally, we focus on hunger in the United States. While researching the topic, I found a very resourceful website called, The New Face of Hunger. It begins by asking the questions, “Why are people malnourished in the richest country on Earth?” This is because Americans just cannot afford it. According to, National Public Radio, they believe that a big
Hunger is a big social issue facing America today. According to (“Do Something.com”) 1 out of 6 people face hunger in the US. Also 49 Million Americans Struggle to put food on the table. America is the best country in world, we shouldn’t have so many people hungry. Many people have thought of fixing this problem but one company has found a way to help fix this problem, this company is Feeding America. They have been giving people food since 1979. They’ve helped out 46 million Americans. ( feedingamerica.org )
Hunger in the United States, and how it’s an important topic to write about and that everyone should know about. The hunger in America then and now, we have moved from efficient scavenging to conspicuous consumption and then back again. The estimated percentage of household waste about 22 percent millions of thousands approximately. Food waste has become a serious issue in our society in the last few that affected poor and rich countries as well. We live in a world where so many have no clue about the people in need of food. I feel like so many don’t show their kinder sides to those who need our help and can’t eat. Of course, there are a good proton of people out there who show kindness to those in need. Just think about everyone who is worrying
One way hunger affects kids is by getting in the way of their education. The children tend to lose focus in the classroom when all they can think about is being hungry. In a survey done back in 2013 by an organization that focuses to end child hunger called “No Kid Hungry”, interviewed over 1,000 different teachers and principals from around the US. The survey showed that 73% of teachers have students who are hungry and do not have enough food at home to eat. Clearly, lack of food at home is a huge issue to many students. Schools do have meal programs such as breakfast before school, unfortunately many kids do not get to participate due to the bus schedule or other factors. Coming up with other solutions to fix hunger in the classroom such as provided snacks to the students who need it, would benefit many
Although hunger may not be an immediate issue in your life or the peoples lives around you, it does exist in the world and has very real ramifications for each of us. If we were able to cure chronic hunger it
Hunger is a growing sickle. Once you get to week to work and make money that could potentially get you the nourishment that you need. This is a serious problem, especially for children. Severe hunger can cause stunting which if not getting the proper treatment can affect their future life and their income as adults.
In an attempt to end the fight against hunger one must experience it in some way, shape or form. Whether that be through personal experience, the stories of others, volunteering, research, etc. you have to have some understanding as to how individuals are effected. This important in finding the right course of action or the right solution. These past few weeks have opened my eyes to many different experiences and I am inspired to be more active in the fight against hunger, locally, domestically and worldwide.
Hunger has always been a problem in the United States. When hearing about food issues most people think about obesity and how it is the main problem; not many people hear as much about hunger as they do obesity, or how the public should be eating certain types of food. In reality, hunger is a massive factor in the world. There are 48.1 million people in America who claim to not get enough meals (Feeding America). In Minnesota alone one in ten families say they do not receive enough food each day (Siple). I am focusing on the Twin Cities area because they have a population of 3.2 million people (Sternberg). Being hungry is an that is dealt with all around the world. To fix this problem the public needs to focus on a certain area, and in a brief
World hunger is one of the worst problem we have in the world today, which is consisted of 928 billion people. Hunger is a painful situation caused by the want of food, or craving appetite. Hunger is an unfair problem that a lot of our population suffer from. In this paper I will justify the meaning of world hunger.
Every day, between 21,000 to 24,000 people die because of hunger or diseases associated with hunger. In 2010, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimated that 239 million people in sub-Saharan Africa were hungry/undernourished. However, there are many reasons why these numbers are so high, such as poverty, harmful economic systems, conflict, environmental factors, etc. While people in Africa are starving, other countries have too much food. This is a major problem and I believe that everything possible should be done to end starvation not only in Africa, but all over the world.
As time goes on the advancement in creations and technology grow to help make everyday life easier. For most living in a first world country, the thought of where will the next meal, drink, or shelter will come from is unlikely. Humans have found ways to reach the moon, send satellites into orbit, and connect with one another across the world with just a click of a button. One feasible problem is so over looked and has a general lack of awareness, and that is world hunger.
World hunger. It’s a topic that requires attention and discussion like many others. The fact that many individuals all over the world are dying of starvation or are simply in need of just a little more food, though, is not something you could call debatable. This is a worldwide phenomenon that has always been around - and quite frankly – for much too long. According to DoSomething.org, “11.3% of the world’s population is hungry. That’s roughly 805 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis, consuming less than the recommended 2,100 calories a day.” There are so many ways we can fix this major issue, including setting up more organizations towards ending world hunger, giving leftovers to those on the street, contributing donations to world hunger organizations, and more.
Although these terms have been used for years in discussions about fighting world hunger, this book provides fresh insight into the critical nature of these topics. It also offers practical ideas and plans to address the root causes of hunger and recommendations for resolving the issue once and for all.

World hunger has become an increasing problem within society. “Globally, one in nine people in the world today (795 million) are undernourished.” (United Nations) Many individuals, especially those in developing countries are restricted from being able access food. This could be due to various reasons such as: poverty, distribution, inequality etc. As a result of unjust starvation, it is estimated that 3.1 million children die annually from hunger. In 2011 poor nutrition caused forty-five percent of children under the age of five to die. (World hunger facts) Hunger is described in the dictionary as a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by a lack of food. Hunger and starvation has the potential to be diminished according to OXFAM Canada which reports that there is enough food to feed the world population. Due to the suffering and death of many hunger victims, a plea to find a cure to world hunger is strong. Focusing on the solutions to the global food crisis is critical for the survival of human beings.
