A1. Models of Health and Healing- The candidate provides a logical discussion, with substantial detail, of the differences between 2 models of health and healing as they relate to what it means to be human.
Since the mid-19th century, there have been three distinct models of health and healing. The first era began in the mid-1960s and dealt primarily with the physical body. It is known as the mechanical model and focused solely on the anatomy and physiology of the body. It was physical in nature, and gave no consideration to the mind or spiritual side of the human being.

The human being is a complex life form made up of chemical, biological, emotional, cognitive and spiritual elements. Just in the last ten years there has been a growing awareness and acceptance that all of us are interconnected in ways that we are only now beginning to understand. New concepts like quantum physics and the Chaos Theory, when applied to health care expose us to the idea that we are so much more than blood, bone and tissue. Quantum Physics when applied to the human experience would indicate that we have a shared consciousness that exists among us all. As with all things synergistic, the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. The Chaos Theory of mathematics challenges the long held scientific belief that outcomes can be predicted based on prior experience.
