Week one, I learned about phytochemicals. They are a non nutrient substance, which means they have no nutrients in them. Phytochemicals are not needed for short term survival, which means you don’t necessary need them. They are good though because they promote long term health. I applied this to my life by making sure I start having phytochemicals in my diet, so I can help out my long term health.

The five-factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five traits – openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell’s 16-factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck’s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2-7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7-factor model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa & Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its credibility can be explored.

Factor Analysis aims to understand the aspects of certain problem behavior. In order to move forward, the problem behavior must be identified. Then the focus moves on to the triggers and figuring out the context of what happened right before the behavior occurred. This is known as the proximal trigger and is what is typically focused on. To determine just how expensive a cappuccino was in San Francisco, I sampled cappuccino prices at 36 coffee shops scattered across San Francisco. The sample mean price of a cappuccino is $3.54 (x̅) with a sample standard deviation, or a standard error, of $0.55 (s). The prices ranged from $2.50 to $4.40.
