Part A. Over the past twenty years North Americans have witnessed the largest boom in population in the area of seniors. For the purpose of this assignment I will define a senior as anyone over the age of sixty. This questionnaire will utilize close-ended questions for several reasons. The close-ended questions enable pre-set answers which allows for greater ease of coding and analyzation of answers while simultaneously taking away any opportunity for unnecessary or undesired answers to questions. It also adds to higher incidences of participation in the study because the respondent will not have to take vast amounts of time to respond to short-answer questions which can be daunting for those who have difficulty reading or writing which is important in regards to seniors who may have difficulty reading due to poor eyesight or may have problems holding a pen or pencil due to arthritis. The first eight questions pertain to each participant’s personal information (e.g. age, gender, race, etc.) as well as their lifestyles (e.g. activity level, employment, etc.). The next question determines whether or not the participant will answer the next four questions or skip down to question thirteen and fourteen. This style of questionnaire is referred to as branching questionnaire and allows for the questionnaire respondent to move through the questions a different way depending on their answer

The research question states ‘To what extent is owning a dog beneficial for a person’s physical and psychological health?’ The investigation is aimed to determine the extent of the benefits of owning a dog for a person’s physical and psychological health. The main focus will be on exercising, developing one’s responsibility and companionship. The findings from this research target on people those involved or interested in owning a dog, such as dog owners, animal lovers, children and the elderly. The investigation will address three key benefits of owning a dog in terms of maintaining one’s physical and psychological health, which include exercise, taking responsibility and companionship.
Pets provide a sense of comfort and purpose in their owner’s life (Bennett). Humans have the basic need to touch, thus, when a person strokes an animal, blood pressure lowers and leaves that person feeling more calmed and less stressed (Robinson and Segal), though researchers believe that cats have a more calming effect on people than other animals do (WebMD). Giving a child a pet is very effective in helping them develop basic motor and social skills, a sense of responsibility, compassion, empathy, stimulate imagination, creativity, curiosity, and even make them feel better about themselves. Furthermore, both children and adults alike become more active when having a pet for a companion (Robinson and Segal). “Horseback riding gives stretching exercise, and helps at regaining balance and building core strength” (WebMD). A questionnaire is research which involves a number of different questions to gather information from the people who are filling it in. Questionnaires are designed as a way to find out what people are thinking. An advantage of questionnaires is that it is very practical because it is quick to collect information from the people filling out the questionnaire. Another advantage of questionnaires is that the same questions is asked to everyone filling the questionnaire out so easy to sum up. The final advantage to questionnaires is that large information can be collected. There are also some disadvantages to questionnaires which is that there is no way of telling how much though someone who is filling the questionnaire out has put it. Another disadvantage is that the person filling it out may forget what has happened to fill it out so it won’t be reliable. The final disadvantage to questionnaires is that there is no way to tell how truthful a respondent is being.

There are many reasons that dogs are called a “mans’ best friend”. Having a dog can have many benefits including lower risk of cardiovascular complications, they can improve your mood, and they can help with many physical and mental disabilities in the form of service dogs or mobility support dogs.
Dogs help people to stay active and healthy. All dogs need to go on walks every day to go to the bathroom and to get their energy out. Their owners must come on walks also to make sure they don’t run away. This means that dog owners are more active and healthy by walking every single day with their dog. Dogs are not just wanted for walking, but for many other important reasons.
When owning a dog, studies show that more people that own dogs have less doctor visits and miss less days at work. It also motivates people to be more active in society and become social. People with a lot of energy tend to buy or adopt a dog. There are so many dogs that have just as important jobs as humans. Many people adopt dogs for their disabilities. Some common jobs for dogs include guide dogs, therapy dogs, war dogs, and search and rescue. I also chose this article because I was interested in what the “Lassie Effect” was. I had never heard this term before. I came upon this article while I was looking at “The New York Times”. This article by Gretchen Reynolds fits in with and complies with what we have learned this semester because it motivates people to walk and to take their furry little friends with them. It makes walking more fun and enjoyable because you get to bond with your dog. This article ties in with last week’s discussion how we plan to motivate ourselves to walk this semester. This is because dogs motivate us to exercise when we don’t want to walk and they are insistent and reliable training partners. They can help a person be more active. The strength of questionnaires is it can give an insight into respondent’s thoughts and opinions and also cost efficient as it is inexpensive.

I wouldn 't recommend showing this to your mom because then she’ll become the lady with dogs. Studies have shown that dog owners are more likely to reach their fitness goals. Not only will walking the dog be good exercise but dog owners are proven to have faster walking speeds, burning more calories. So not only are you getting more exercise but you are also getting better quality. With rising obesity rates in America a dog would be perfect to keep your family active. Just get the dog to chase your kids around the house a couple times a day or something. Dogs will motivate you to keep going, taking your dog out for a light jog won’t even feel like you 're working out. You know how a dog will sit at the same spot till it gets food? Well it will do the same thing when it wants to go for a run therefore helping you keep good routine.
