The events recounted in Anne Frank’s Diary took place during World War 11. By 1933, the strongest party in Germany had gained ultimate power with Hitler under their command. Hitler was Germany’s dictator who spread his gospel of racial hatred through politics. While poverty and unemployment were at an all time high he launched a campaign of anti-Semitism. Hitler’s main target was the Jews, claiming that they were “racially inferior.” He developed an idea of a Master Aryan Race, the need to rid Germany of “inferior people”, such as Jews and Gypsies, and the need to expand Germany’s borders. The Diary of Anne Frank is about a girl that kept a diary while hiding from Nazi’s in Amsterdam for two years. The diary ends when the Nazi’s found her and her family. Her whole family was killed in exception for her father. She was given the journal on her thirteenth birthday. She simply summarized her life for two years in this phenomenal journal.

These pirates captured the crew and passengers of other ships. They then enslaved these people and some people died because of this.

The brand of justice pirates toward vessels they captured was something I found fascinating. For example, on page 88, the incident involving the capture of Captain Snelgraves vessel by the pirate Thomas Cocklyn. Initially Snelgrave resisted Cocklyns takeover so as Cocklyns crew overpowers Snelgraves and is taken by the pirates. Certain that Snelgrave will be killed or beaten for resisting, Snelgraves crew comes to their captains defense thus Cocklyn sparring the respected captains life. Because of the degree of respect Snelgraves had, Cocklyn not often seeing a government captain holding such admiration from a crew offered him a new ship and profits from a captured slave ship for his return to England. This story really caught my attention because of the level of hospitality pirates show to a captain who held such respect with his own crew.

Under The Black Flag , a book written by David Cordingly expressed the reality and myths behind piracy. He clearly states in the introduction of the book that his aim “is to examine the popular image of pirates today, to find out where this image came from, and to compare it with the real world of the pirates” (Cordingly xiv). Along with his aim his thesis is also stated in the introduction of his book, which essentially states that the views by everyday people of pirates consists of a mixture of facts, and many other things such as romantic novels and films. The most common definition of pirates is a person who steals or robs at sea. Although it may not seem like it, there are still pirates today such as the Somali pirates.

It was one of the many saddest events that occurred in the history of the world. In the following paragraphs you will be reading a summary or a “movie review”, what ever might call it, about Anne Frank. At the end of the review I will write about my opinion to the movie.

I read Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. This book is about a young orphan child, with a never-ending imagination, named Anne. Anne has been taken in and out of orphanages all her life. Until, one day Matthew Cuthbert and his sister, Miss Marilla Cuthbert, are interested in having a young boy to live with them. They called the orphanage and told them to send the child on the train. He goes to the train station to pick the child up, but to his surprise he found Anne. Anne tells Matthew how she imagines living there would be like. She was so set on staying that Matthew just couldn't leave her at the train station. He takes her to his house, and while on the journey, Anne is enjoying every moment of the beautiful flowered valleys.

The main idea of the story is finding the treasure. Ben Gunn has lived on the island for three years, and knows where the treasure lies. Before the pirates find Jim and his mother, Jim grabs a key and an oilskin packet from the old sea chest. Jim’s father dies, and he and his mother flee to the nearby town and ask them to help them but they refuse to. They find a nearby bridge to hide under, and escape from the pirates. Finally, the people from the town decide to come to Jim and his mothers rescue. Later in the book, Jim hides in an apple barrel and overhears Silver and other crewmates about taking the ship once they have the treasure on the ship. When land was sighted a conflict went on between Silver and another group of pirates. Jim escapes while the fight is going on. He finds Ben Gunn and they become friends. Jim goes with Silver on the hunt for the treasure. They discover that the treasure is missing, and they fire into the surrounding area. The treasure was stowed in the Hispanolia’s lower deck. Silver steals a sack of coins and escapes.

Pirates are those who take to the sea to rob and raid. Piracy is a punishable offence and a pirate is classified as a criminal. The money or goods looted were usually split among the crew mates, more given to those of 'higher rank' such as the captain and first mate. Some famous pirates include Calico Jack, Ching Shih and Captain Kidd.

Just days before the voyage the men and women of ship were at a briefing where a lot of information was being put out about the voyage. They were given strict guideline on how to deal with aggressive boating traffic and how to keep themselves safe. As the Customs Officer continued his briefing, the crew made jokes and laughed at the possibility of an attack from a smaller vessel that could barely float. Reflecting on their childish behavior and now being held captive by pirates the crew was still in shock. The Captain tries to keep everyone calm and at the same time reminds them that piracy is a very real life for some, and it is dangerous for the crew of the vessels captured. Not only did the leader of the group demands the cargo of oil, but he is also demanding the owner of the ship pays a ransom for the safe return of the crew. Meanwhile back home in the United States the owner receives word of the hijacking and demands for a paid ransom for the crew. As the families are notified of the terrible event, the media soon gets word. The port of origin is flooded with news crews hoping to get a taste of information. The families had no idea that pirates still existed. This is just one example of modern-day piracy on the high seas. It is very real and has
