Everybody is bound to be selfish from time to time. Although many elements of our society may encourage it, selfishness just hurts other people, sometimes at little to no personal gain. A selfish person also ends up losing friends or loved ones because no matter how charming or interesting a selfish person may be, a relationship with a selfish person is hard to maintain. A truly selfish person would never consider the possibility that they are selfish. Many think selfishness and pride are good things, and that putting the needs of others above your own is for suckers. If you're worried that you're too selfish and want to be on the path to gratitude and humility, then see Step 1 to get started.
If you're a selfish person, then chances are that

If they dissolve under scrutiny, that’s great. However if they are based on genuine risks, make sure you set additional goals to manage these appropriately. For help with evaluating and managing the risks you face, read our Risk Analysis and Management article.

Tip:
Self-confidence is about balance. At one extreme, we have people with low self-confidence. At the other end, we have people who may be over-confident.
If you are under-confident, you’ll avoid taking risks and stretching yourself; and you might not try at all. And if you’re over-confident, you may take on too much risk, stretch yourself beyond your capabilities, and crash badly. You may also find that you’re so optimistic that you don’t try hard enough to truly succeed.
Getting this right is a matter of having the right amount of confidence, founded in reality and on your true ability. With the right amount of self-confidence, you will take informed risks, stretch yourself (but not beyond your abilities) and try hard.
So how self confident are you? Take our short quiz to find out how self-confident you are already, and start looking at specific strategies to improve your confidence
The question of why shouldn't I be selfish, can be argued because the meaning of selfish is when someone does what he/she wants. For example a charity worker and a businessman. Both of them can be viewed a selfish because the business man works hard to gain money and that's makes hi greedy selfish. The charity worker helps the poor, people may see that this is what he wants to do therefore it would be considered selfish. If everyone is selfish, then someone cannot be criticized for being too selfish. Religion and math are two areas of knowing
Being confident goes beyond just being proud of yourself; In Otto’s view it's about taking extraordinarily big risks. For example Otto was taken from his orphanage to the H.I.V.E. campus where he could have complained but, instead he was confident in himself and the teachers that ,although this place was new and out of ordinary, it still was safe. Otto Malpense gained his confidence when he was a child; His orphanage was threatened by the Mayor that it would be closed down because of its disastrous condition but, Otto didn’t give them a chance so, he made a plan and told all the kids in the orphanage. His plan could have had a tiny flaw and that would have shut down the orphanage
Not having a strong sense of confidence can cause problems such as being easily influenced, having trouble making the right decisions, and getting involved in unhealthy relationships. Developing a strong sense of identity and self esteem is important because we must first learn how to understand and love ourselves before we can allow anyone else to. I am confident because I know who I am and what I want in live. I am driven and goal oriented and I will stop at literally nothing to get what I want. Being confident in myself has allowed me to express myself in a variety of ways without worrying whether or not people are going to judge me. I’m a big believer in “look good, feel good, do good” so I always try to look my best even if I’m feeling not-so-confident on that particular
Nothing is more important in life than having positive self-esteem and a positive outlook on life. With positive self-esteem, a person can accomplish just about anything they put their mind to. Developing self-esteem starts from the day a baby is born and continues throughout their life, but unfortunately, this development is not always complete for some by the time they are adults. If we have low confidence in ourselves and our ability to succeed, it’s time to take another look at how we can build confidence. First of all, it’s important to recognize and believe that positive
Confidence is something everyone needs, because without confidence you wouldn't believe in yourself or push yourself to do something like at a baseball game when you are losing and you don't think you will win.
There is nothing wrong with being confident, but what if you are overly confident? Everyone has something that they are good at and it is alright if people are better at something than you are. It is never good to think of yourself as better than anyone else or that you are of higher power than anyone else. However, it is also not good to bring people down if they are not as good at something as you are, at least they are trying. If you are not the best at something that should not discourage you or make you want to give up on it, it should make you want to work harder to get even better. In the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas Tim Burton uses the characters Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie and Dr. Finkelstein to show that is not good to be egotistic for the reason that it could lead to failure in any type of situation.
Andrew Coleman, the author of the article “ Confidence Can Help You Achieve Anything”, points out how important to have self- confidence to achieve a goal and be successful in our lives. In the beginning of the article, Andrew illustrates about one of his precious life lessons that he experienced in his young age. When Andrew was in sixth grade, he experienced a harsh and depressed school life because of the bullying from the classmates. After that, the school counselor gave him a lesson about “ Self- Confidence”. The author got to know what is the self- confidence and why it is so important: Self- Confidence means that you have a strong definite view to yourself, so even others attack you by spreading ridiculous rumors behind you, you do not
I believe that having this self-confidence is necessary in our time and age where the social forces at large always try to push us into different
But what is wrong with being confident. Confidence is the belief of one's abilities or powers to do something. These things can vary from getting up and giving a speech to climbing to the highest mountain top. One of the biggest advantages of being confident is just being confident. The only person you have to prove anything to is you. You can be yourself around everyone, and you don't care what people think as long as you’re happy. The only person you have to be better than is the person that you were yesterday. In the words of Joss Whedon, “ Be yourself, unless you suck.” Now some people might think, “ Wow! That was really derogatory and degrading.” What Joss meant was the arrogant, hypocritical, and the ignorant people shouldn’t be themselves, those are the people that suck. Those are the people that need to change. The positive, confident and ambitious people are the people that should never change. Those are the people that should be themselves.Being confident has many other positive effects on people, such as you will think like a winner basically turning yourself into the little engine that could.I think I can.(3x) Any mountain you can climb and any ocean you can swim. Your attitude will also be a lot better and you will attract the right people because who doesn't love a positive outgoing person that doesn't let anything stand in the way of him or her. You won't look for excuses not to do something you should look for excuses or reasons to do something. Next time you talk yourself out of doing something like going to a party or doing something challenging that will take all of your effort, say “What the Hell!” and go do it anyway, because remember being confident is just about making yourself happy. If you don’t finish the challenge you got yourself into as long as you gave it your all you can be happy with
Gaining confidence: Your self-confidence is an important life tool. Its like riding a bike. First, you must learn to ride the bike. Then it takes practice to get really good at it. But once you have mastered riding, it is as natural as breathing.
Self-confidence is your belief that you and complete any task put in front of year. People with self-confidence are cool, calm and collective in any situation. When I think of self-confidence, I think of Kobe Bryant. That guy can miss forty nine out of forty nine shots in an NBA game and would not hesitate to take shot number fifty if the game was on the line. In the movie, Will Ferrell completely tears down every kid on the team.
After reading the article Confidence Can Help You Achieve Anything written by Andrew Coleman, it gave me an answer why it is so important to have self-confidence in our lives. The author gives some excellent life experiences to demonstrate that self-confidence is one of the most important elements to be successful.
The ethical debate between Egoism and Altruism was extremely interesting to read about. I truly had an “aha” moment because this debate is a topic that is rarely tackled or approached from the perspective that being selfish is not a bad thing. At first, I thought this argument against altruism was insane, however, once I tried to think of examples that prove its insanity I thought of nothing. This is when I came to the conclusion that yes, whether its selfishness or selflessness, both have different meanings to different people. Laurena Becker, in her article “Encyclopedia of Ethics,” mentioned that one of the definitions for selflessness is “a regard for the well-being of others for its own sake” (35). I believe this is the definition that most people refer to. For example, when we think about a sister staying up all night to take care of her younger sibling whose sick, we tend to say “aww, she’s so sweet and selfless”. However, can we even say that a sibling is selfless for taking care of her own sibling? A part of me views that as being her job as an older sister while another part of me also views this as being a kind gesture; and in actuality it may be a little bit of both. This aspect interferes with Rand’s statement, in the book “Objectively
More and more opportunities automatically come the way of the person with a good self-confidence. In short, success flows to those who have a genuine self-confidence.
Selfishness means acting in one's rational self-interest. Contrary to popular opinion, all healthy individuals are selfish. Choosing to pursue the career of your choice is selfish. Choosing to have children—or not to have children—is selfish. Insisting on freedom and individual rights, rather than living under a dictatorship, is selfish. Indeed, even ordinary behaviors such as breathing, eating and avoiding an oncoming car when crossing the street are selfish acts. Without selfishness, none o f us would survive the day—much less a lifetime.
