The students at some point have to show courage, if someone is being bullied, mistreated, or just sad. Courage is showing bravery and just doing what's right. In Mildred Taylorś book, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry. Stacey has to show courage, when he took the blame for T.J. cheating.. Stacey also had to show courage by, coming up with the idea of digging the trench, and Stacey got everyone involved with the idea of digging the trench, for the bus to fall in.
Courage is hard to have. Especially when there are people judging you. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, there are many great acts of courage shown. In the book, Mildred Taylor writes many times when a character has to show courage. Stacey had to show courage when Papa was gone and he had to step up and be the man of the house, when, the night men attacked them, and when he had to help TJ get home and help the Avery’s.
Many people have to show courage by standing up for people when they are being treated wrongly and unfairly. In Mildred D. Taylor's book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry Stacey is the oldest child (12) in the Logan family and he goes to Great Faith Middle School. Stacey has to show his convictions for his family and friends. Stacey shows his convictions by when he stands up for Little Man, stands up for T.J., and when he stands up for Mama.
hear my cry, is a coming of the age story for Cassie as she awakens to
An event in the novel in which courage is displayed is when Mrs Dubose fights to overcome her morphine addiction. Her decision to quit morphine despite the pain it would cause her to do what she thought was the right thing to do was very brave of her. "when you’re as sick as she was, it’s all right to take anything to make it easier, but it wasn’t all right for her”. This quote demonstrates Mrs Dubose’s determination to stay true to her beliefs and achieve her goal. Nobody would have judged her for continuing her use of the drug but she felt that she had to and so did what conformed to her moral standards. Mrs Dubose was a Christian and believed in heaven and when she arrived there she wanted to be free from sin. This incident in the book is a great learning point for both Jem and Scout as it shows them that although courage is not always obvious doesn't mean it isn't important. Mrs Dubose didn’t have to stop to taking morphine, but chose to and her dedication to see it through to the end is a good way for Lee to portray
Courage is when you are willing to do something above your comfort zone to show what you’re made of. In a novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred D. Taylor uses an example of a young girl named Cassie Logan , who is colored, that must stand up for her convictions despite many injustices against her and her family. Cassie proves her courage by protecting her little brother Little Man from getting in big trouble, facing her white enemy Lillian Jean Simms, and being helpful to T.J despite his actions against her family. Cassie made many choices that proved her sassiness and how outspoken she was. She loved her family and had deep respect for the land they lived on. During a time period when the word “equality” meant nothing to those who surrounded her, Cassie shows those who see her actions that she is willing to face the many consequences that lie before her with standing up for her beliefs.
An additional theme heavily shown throughout the book is “people are defined by the choices they make”. Ben left his little sister, Sissy, to die, even though he could have made an effort to save her; because he left her, he now vows not to run from danger or those things which scare him. Furthermore, Cassie promises Sammy that she will find him and, because she makes that promise, she will stop at nothing to be with him again.
Well Stacey Logan has, in this incident Stacey Logan had gotten very sick and tired of the white children bus that they take to school to stop splashing him and the other Logan children. The splashing's were an everyday thing and that just made him very aggravated. One day he decided to have all of the Logan children dig a trench across the road and they made it look like it was just washed away because it was raining that day so looked like it was just happen. When Stacey made the choice to go and get Cassie Logan (sister of Stacey Logan) he came to her school and said “Come on Cassie let's go get that bus back” Taylor on page 91. With what he just said he was trying to pursue Cassie to come with Stacey and the other Logan. After, they had gotten done road they had to run back to their school and Stacey then said “We got to get out of here before there (meaning white children) bus comes” Taylor this was from chapter 3 page 95. After they got done with their sacred duty that went back to school like nothing happen and they had went nowhere. This shows how Stacey courage is very strong and how he has a strong love for his
Near the end of the book Cassie bumps into Jeremy Simms sister and her dad comes and pushes Cassie off the sidewalk.“It was then that I bumped into Lillian Jean Simms… Mr. Simms glared down at me “When my gal Lillian Jean says for you to get yo’self off the sidewalk, you get, your hear.” This shows her losing innocence because she now sees how terrible white people are to push a 9 year old girl off the sidewalk because someone bumped into her. Lillian and her dad are very racist so now she knows not to mess with her and not to talk back.
There are many events that can occur to people that will change their lives tremendously. Racism plays a big part in Cassie Logan’s life and it changes her character throughout the novel as she grows in her understanding of inequality. As the narrator and protagonist of the novel, Cassie’s perspective is captivated very closely with the help of the other character’s conversations. At such a young age she is very naïve about certain situations but learns how things really are throughout the novel. As she is growing up she experiences many situations of racism in the American South, but there is one event that she would never forget. The day that Cassie Logan is made to apologize to Lillian Jean Simms for bumping into her is the event that had the greatest impact on her character.
Courage is something people need to have almost everyday. A firefighter has courage every time they run into a flaming building to save someone. Cassie is a strong and brave girl. She’s willing to do almost anything for her family. Cassie posed courage most of the time during Roll of Thunder, Hear Cy Cry by Mildred D. Taylor by stick to her convictions because she was treated unfairly throughout the book.
In the novel Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, Cassie Logan shows courage at the beginning of the novel when little man gets in trouble when he throws his book on the floor and stomps on it because of what was in it. When the teacher says he is going to get a whipping, cassie looks in her book and understands why little man did what he did. In the condition table, whites got the books when they were new, then the condition went down but the whites still used them, and when the condition was very poor, they gave the books to the black and instead of putting colored or black for the race, they put an offensive name. Cassie argues with the teacher and stands up for her little brother. Another act of courage is when cassie is at strawberry and is at the barnett mercantile.
Cassie Bernall is a girl that all the time would hang out with friends and family. She never thought that her family would think differently of her and her go from being the talk of the school and the “perfect one” of the family. I had no clue about the young woman until I read about her and read that book that her mom told and the pain that they went through.
“The real hero is the man who fights even though he is scared” (George S Patton). This quote can go with Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry what Papa did for the land, his family, and friends. If Papa did not get to these tasks then he probably would not be a big hero in the novel. Throughout the book I think that Papa could be considered a true hero in this novel for all the things he did. Papa was very generous, kind, and helpful to the family and he made the right decisions to be a true hero.
