Hello, I am Samantha Mastin, a senior in the Liberal Studies Program with a mathematics option, at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Once I graduate I will be in in a credential program for Multiple Subjects to become an elementary school teacher. Since I also have a passion for mathematics, I will eventually pursue a Single Subject credential in mathematics. My passion for teaching started at a very young age. My mother is a first grade teacher and gave me my first exposure to teaching. Any time anyone asked me what I was going to be when I grew up I always said I would be a teacher. Once I started attending El Camino College, I was a tutor at my elementary school, which is where my mother teaches. My first hands on experience
The pathway of teaching revealed itself to me in high school, but that was not the aisle I want to go down at the time. At Clark High School, there is a magnet program known as Teacher Education Academy at Clark High School (T.E.A.C.H.), but I was not in this specific magnet program since I had no plan of becoming a teacher. The magnet program I was in at Clark High School was Academy of Math, Science, and Applied Technology (A.M.S.A.T.), and despite there being a mathematic course within the program and me wanting to become a math teacher presently, I was in the science lane. My previous ambition was to become a scientist that would aid finding a cure for cancer and make a change in the world. Despite seeking the science side of things, I have always been good at math and I had my wonderful high school math teachers Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Arquette to thank for that.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to teach young children. I knew I wanted to teach preschool when I dropped my cousins off at their school. It looked so fun and
Teaching and guiding others have come naturally as long as I can remember, and I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life; sometimes a field or a profession calls a certain type of person, and I definitely am drawn to a path in education. Nothing gives me more satisfaction, and can create more of a positive effect in our society. My passion is teaching and I want to change the lives of students across the board, but mostly those who live in poverty and have not possessed the same opportunities as
My passion is my commitment, I have wanted to be a teacher since I met my kindergarten teacher, and I am will to go above and beyond to strive to do my very best for my students and colleagues, if we don’t all work together then we have no
I have known from a young age I wanted to become a teacher when I grew up. Throughout high school, the passion I have
Since I remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. For instance, my dream came true at the very young age of 19 years old. In my country, Guatemala, I got my Vocational Teaching Credential. Unfortunately, my long-awaited dream ended too soon. Six years later, my life completely changed when I moved to the United States.
The earliest time that I can remember teaching was when I was about nine years old I taught my siblings and neighbors how to tie their shoes and or ride a bike. The first time that I realized that I actually enjoyed teaching was when I tried to teach my younger brother how to read and my little sister who’s younger than him participated and she ended up learning what I tried to teach him, that experience also helped me realize that everyone doesn’t learn at their level . It takes patients to teach a child something new and there are many different ways of teaching and it feels great when they actually grasp the
I thought very highly about teachers and education; to me, being a teacher was the best profession to be in. As I got older, I started to look deeper into the idea of being an educator, and my desire to become a teacher grew. My mother had a huge
I knew I wanted to become a teacher in 6th grade when I was able to be apart of the STARS program at my middle school. This was a program that allowed students like me the opportunity to be able to work with the special needs children. This is where I first knew I had a passion to be able to help others and to teach. As I got older I was able to help lesson plan and help teach the students there during my lunch time and study hall. This was a really empowering time for me because I discovered things I was good at, and I was able to get to know more students and be able to connect with
I first became interested in teaching in my sophomore year in high school. My inspiration came from three amazing teachers who showed passion for their subject matter as well as a love for teaching. My desire to become a teacher was amplified by the many leadership and teaching roles that I took on while I was in Boy Scouts. While teaching in Boy Scouts I learned that teaching was what mattered most to me. Under my leadership, I helped advance many scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout as well as winning multiple awards at every summer camp that we attended. This was my jumping point into enrolling in Old Dominion University’s education program.
When I was in elementary school I would spend most of the summer setting stuffed animals up on my bed to teach them all the math problems I had learned the previous year in school. In middle school my friends would come over and I'd teach them how to do cool tricks on the trampoline or how to draw bubble letters. Once I was in high school, I had more opportunities to work with children and I took them without hesitation. Since teaching is something I enjoy doing in my freetime I know it's something I would love to do as a career.
I have always known I wanted to become a teacher. When I was in school
No specific teacher sparked my interest in teaching, it just sort of happened. I have always been asked what I would like to be when I grow up, and my answer has been “I want to be a teacher”, it did although sometimes change over time but now that I am able to participate in a classroom full
I figured out a few years ago that I loved the idea of being able to work with younger kids and being able to have an impact on their everyday lives. I love being able to work with younger kids. They don't quite understand things yet so everyday there's something new I can look forward to. I have a love for writing and I hope to share this with my students one day and see what their ideas come up with through different writing prompts. When i was younger, I used to always pretend that I was a teacher, grading papers and making my own lesson plans. I hope to one day be the teacher that makes her students look forward to coming to class everyday. My passion for wanting to become an elementary teacher motivates me
My interest in Education was sparked by my experience as a teacher and it was further cultivated when I started attending various conferences and workshops concentrated on teaching and education.
