Proclaimed as the hottest company since Google and Facebook, Twitter introduced a revolutionary micro-blogging service in 2006 that allowed users to spread and share short messages of 140 characters (“tweets”) with friends and strangers subscribing to follow their communication flow (as so called “followers”) in order to find out what is happening right now from any point of the globe.

Can social media be ruining your life? Researchers say yes. According to researchers, social media can give mental disorders like OCD or ADHD, cause problems in your relationship, risks your privacy, lower self-esteem, cause physical health problems, and spread fake news like wild fires. These are only some reason why social media is bad for your mental and physical health. In the following paragraphs I will explain the reasons why i think social media is better left alone.

Cyberbullying is as bad if not worse than traditional bullying because there are no boundaries on how far it can go. Bullying is generally defined as any deliberate act of aggression towards another person with the intentions of causing harm or suffering. Cyber bullying can be termed as the use of electronic communications (e-mail, text messages, instant messaging, social media, etc.) in which to humiliate, intimidate, threaten, or harass others and is often done anonymously. Though it as not as prevalent as “traditional bullying”, it has become a much more popular version of bullying because of the convenience of anonymity and the fact that it can be done any time of the day or night and anywhere.

First off, cyberbullying can happen anywhere. Bullying is no longer restricted to school or in public. In the article by Brett Warnke, it states, “As bullies… cyberbullying has infiltrated the confines of the home…,” which states that people can’t escape cyberbullies, even in the supposed safety of their own home. Even if the victim of a cyberbully moves house or schools, the bully could simply continue the harassment online. Situations like this can be prevented by the addition of penalties to cyber \bullies, such as community service hours or a hefty fine. Seldom do bullies stop by merely being told, for this reason, action must be taken.

With more than half of adults relying on social media, it begs the question does society rely too much on social media? Cyber-bullying is the use of electronic communications to bully a person. Cyber-bullying takes place by using the Internet, cell phones, video game systems, and other technology. Historically we have seen and may have been a victim of verbal or physical bullying, however today we all use technology so cyber-bullying is on its rise. The Internet has become a place where people communicate with each other everywhere. People have access to Internet twenty-four hours per day. Communicating with others via emails and various social websites is just like talking with people face to face. However, there are some people who try to hurt others ' feelings through the Internet and technology devices.

Social media itself has become an every day advantage to most users. First came Facebook and shortly after came something completely different, Twitter. However, Twitter has become more than a cutting edge tool, it has become a means of expression, communication, and a source to rely on. According to statistics from Statista, the average active amount of monthly users on Twitter is 328 million. Twitter is free, convenient, and simple to use. Users use Twitter to connect with each other on many types of levels such as voicing an opinion, raising awareness, forwarding news, and entertainment. Twitter is an ethical tool for communication, collaboration, and professional development.

Cyberbullying is similar and different to traditional bullying. Both types of bullying can include threats, harassment, or name calling, but a lot of the type cyberbullying is not taken as seriously because it is behind a screen and not seen by a lot of people (Munn). Online bullying sometimes comes from the “popular kids” not the typical bully of the olden days. Whereas traditional bullies are seen the “school yard thug” cyberbullies are often kids who come from good families and involved in the “in-crowd” and want to make fun of kids who are not as “cool” as they are (“Cyberbullying”). Anyone can be a cyberbully, it could be that traditional type bully, but it doesn’t have to be it could be the sweet girl that always seems so quiet.

Cyber bullying can be more terrifying than standard bullying, because the target typically does not know who is after them. Cyber bullies believe that because they are posting anonymously or not using their names, they can get away with anything. The case is that Internet activity is traceable. It is important to know that cyber bullying can be charged as crimes. In some cases, cyber bullies will be charged as sexual predators and have to be on the registry. Furthermore, items posted on the Internet can affect the person’s ability to get into university or employment.

The project aim at teenagers, therefore sample group is between 13 to 19. I will set the sample sizes in 50 participants since it is easy to identity and more precision. If a sample sizes increase, it is very hard to estimate and become not accurate. Also, I’m worry about the extremes data can’t make a balance out, so the project prefers small sample sizes. It can take less effort to gain and maintain people, it is easy to produce significant results and comfortable to find a group of people. I will obtain samples from friends or friends’ sister and brother.
