Stakeholders In Domestic Violence

Stakeholders have a significant influence on the aims of an organisation. They are the people who are affected by or interested in the business. In some organisations the shareholders are stakeholders, and at times have some of the decision power. In trade organisations, customers are also considered stakeholders; therefore their needs are part of the organisation’s overall objectives.

Domestic violence calls to the police became popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s. History indicates that these calls were considered “family matters” that should be handled by its family. Following the landmark case of “Thurman vs. The city of Torrington”, that garnered a severe financial penalty for the police for failure to respond, changes occurred. In this case, Tracy Thurman was awarded $2.3 million when she sued the city of Torrington, CT police department for their failure to arrest her abusive husband.

The purpose of this paper is to recognize the definition and what a stakeholder is and what it does. I will also explain the two groups of the stakeholders and put the stakeholders in the group where they belong. I will explain what the stakeholders responsibilities are, what their ethical responsibilities to the company. Will explain what would be the appropriate response to the situation in the company. And finally explain what Joe should propose to the management team and how Joe should support his proposal.

People often think of stakeholders as people with a monetary stake in an organization, but not necessarily true anymore. In the past, people considered stakeholders the people with a financial stake in the organization that would receive profits from the success of the business. Today stakeholders cover a much broader spectrum of people such as funders, administration, staff, volunteers, community, and the target population (Yuen/Terao, 2003). Each group of stakeholders has his or her influence on the program plan as well as the success of a human service organization and programs services (Yuen/Terao, 2003).

Domestic or Intimate Partner Violence is not just hitting, or fighting, or an occasional mean disagreement. It's an abuse of power, the stronger opposing its will on the weak. It’s a multi-layered illness that terrorize and control their victims emotionally, physical, and economically. I have been blessed to have been raised in a family that provided a home atmosphere that was loving, nurturing, and safe. Unfortunately, many families or relationships aren’t so lucky. During my military career, I have witness physical injuries; testified on behalf of the abused; investigated DV/IPV first hand as a Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer in the United States Marine Corps. Daft (2012) defines stakeholders as “any group within or outside the organization that has a stake in the organizations performance.” Stakeholders within the organization include the owners, managers and employees while external stakeholders includes the organizations customers, suppliers, community, workers unions, creditors as well as the government. Due the variety as well as different nature of the stakeholders, each stakeholder has a different expectation from the organization as concerns their stake. It is from this characteristic and expectation that each stakeholder will be affected differently by actions and decisions as well as policies and practices implemented by the business from those of another stakeholder (Carroll & Buchholtz, 2014). This also means that the different stakeholders will act or make decisions that affect the business in a way best situated for them. Carroll & Buchholtz (2014) discuss the relationship between the business and stakeholders as one that has a two-way interaction; businesses will affect stakeholders as well as stakeholders affect the business, that is an interchange of influence. Lawrence Sherman and Richard Berk conducted a domestic violence experiment in Minneapolis. In April of 1984 this experiment came out in the American Sociological Review, Volume 49, Issue 2.

I actually enjoy doing this research project. It improve my knowledge about domestic violence and intimate partner violence. This activism project research is good way to learn about lots of beneficial staffs that are happening in a family nowadays in our community. Something that I am confused about is, there are some ways to stop domestic violence then why it is still exists in our community? In relationships, women tolerate everything just because of what other will think about them if they leave their families and walk away.

In most businesses, stakeholders are the customers, investors, shareholders, employees, suppliers, government agencies, communities and others who have an interest in a company’s products, operations, and markets (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2011). Ultimately, they not only influence the course and direction of the company, but the company can influence them as well (Attend, 2015). Additionally, there are secondary stakeholders, such as: media, trade associations, and special interest groups who can have a positive impact, especially in times of corruption (Attend, 2015).

I think that we should be educating our youth about domestic violence. Some women may not recognize signs of potential abuse, because they are unaware or maybe preoccupied/ distracted by other things. We should set up programs that talk to young girls about signs to look for pertaining to violence, and what they could do to get out of this type of situation. Women need to be aware of their rights, and feel safe to go to a police officer and not feel scared. Other interventions could also include meeting places similar to alcohols anonymous, where women who are being abused can go and talk about their situation, in a non-threatening

Stakeholders are an integral part of a project. They are the end-users or clients, the people from whom requirements will be drawn, the people who will influence the design and, ultimately, the people who will reap the benefits of your completed project. Stakeholders are any individual, group or business with a vested interest (a stake) in the success of an organization is considered to be a stakeholder.
