Informed decision-making is an important aspect for working in the government. According to Milakovich and Gordon, provide some examples of how information technology can be used to assist bureaucrats in decision-making? The depth and quality of knowledge used by policy makers can influence the effectiveness of policies. According to Milakovich and Gordon, competitive political forces constantly push elected representatives to focus on immediate political decisions, rather than on long term professional-administrative values such as efficient use of resources and increased productivity (p.431). During President Bush’ election he used certain failures of the past administration to enhance his win to presidency as the public trust in the …show more content…
Information theory is the modern theory of organization that views organizations as requiring constant input of information in order to continue functioning systemically and productively; assumes that a lack of information will lead to chaos in organizational operations (p.165). Decision making includes making a choice to alter some existing condition, choosing one course of action in preference to others, expending some amount of organizational assets or individual resources to implement the decision, and acting with the expectation of gaining something desirable (p.194). Things that are important to the decision-making process includes increasing potential gains, monitoring the ongoing decisional process, and reducing the resource expenditure, uncertainty, and risk involved in achieving whatever gains are made (p. 195). Through every carefully thought out decision the government makes on behalf of its citizens there are risks involved. A risk involved in routine decision making is that decision makers may fail to perceive a need to reconsider existing policy or program assumptions on which routine decisions are based (p.195). Milakovich and Gordon state that central to decision making elements is the quality and quantity of information available. Decision makers needs to be informed to serve as a basis for
All change has consequences. In Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address 1863, John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Inaugural Speech 1963 and “Forgotten Jelly” by Megan Jacobson a story from the perspective of an overweight girl who is blinded by her attitude from her friend’s battle with anorexia, both the positive and negative consequences of change are explored. The effects of change are demonstrated in many different ways, however, they all attempt to convey a central aspect of change; that all change has ramifications.
I have always had a passion to become an elementary school teacher; to do this I knew I would have got to go back to college to earn my degree. As I considered returning to school, I had thoughts of how I would do this there were so many events that could go wrong including not passing my classes. In wanting to return to school as an older student and after being out of school so long I would be obliged to compete with students that were freshly graduated from high school and were at least half my age. Returning to school at this point in my life would need a great deal of time on my behalf and how was I going to do this, I have a husband who has poor health issues from serving our county, having to work two jobs not to even mention the rest of my family that needed me to. Would I have the time required to put into college to keep up acceptable grades I need to complete my degree. Some say it is hard to return to college after being out, but after I talked with some friends and family I knew I had an

Banning (2008, p ) states knowledge for decision making is obtained from many sources and has been described as both informative
During the Roosevelt and Kennedy administrations, political science and policymaking had a close relationship. However, this has changed in recent years. However, Samuel Popkin argues that they can still be one in the same. Popkin makes the case that qualities such as character or even a voting record do not actually affect whether the candidate or not will win the Presidency election. In fact, the team surrounding the candidate is a much larger, if not the most import variable in determining his fate in the election. Popkin also speaks of the candidate himself as well as his team saying, “Anyone audacious enough to run must also be agile and resilient, and it is that candidate’s assembled team that determines the level of the candidate’s agility and resilience.”
In the previous section we determined the impact of management information on decision making process within an organisation. One of the Critical Success Factors (CSF) that enables effective decision making is “Information sharing”. This allows managers to take the right decision at the right time.
Effective policy making and workforce planning require an improved information infrastructure and better data collection.
When I think of change I instantly think of this country and wonder if this word should exist or does this word apply to a certain race or individuals. Going back to our Founding Fathers change has always been of great importance to them, rather it may have been the Revolutionary war obtaining freedom from Britain, congress suggesting that each colony establish a state government that had nothing to do with Britain, or creating the United States constitution, Declaration of Independence all represents change but for who?
"It's elementary, my dear Watson," says Sherlock Holmes-an oft-repeated adage by many an aspiring sleuth, detective or private investigator, both real and imagined. So, it seems fitting that the new Sherlock Holmes series should be named that-“Elementary”. Just like the detective written in the book, the character portrayed on the television series, Sherlock Holmes, by Jonny Lee Miller does not disappoint. The twist in this series was that Watson, played by Lucy Liu, was a woman and now called Joan Watson. Many thought that it would be bad for the series to have the character of Holmes sidekick played by a woman but, it has not deterred fans of this series from
It is difficult to measure each individual official’s experience level over time. In order to measure the experience level, not only I will find the key decision maker’s background, but also I will compare the attributes of “experienced” leaders to the Bush administration. The “experienced” leaders tend to have the attributes of strategic behavior, process of complex information, confidence, and cooperativeness. The “experienced” elites are tending to be better at using heuristics when making decisions in the complex situation. They know how to bargain strategically in the complex situations; therefore, they are better at signaling to the
Textual transmission is the permanent written form of words. The Bible is known as the most well-kept-up book to survive the ancient world. Many things went into keeping the Bible preserved and accurate over many years. God breathed inspiration into mankind to write down His word over time. Over time, people had to keep reconstructing the Bible into different languages for different people groups who needed the Bible. As time kept on, to keep up with the times, people had to rewrite the Bible over and over. The different versions of the Bible that we have today are due to people keeping up with the different forms of communication as the times have changed.
This change event is meant to promote cleaner air and a conducive work and study environment for everyone and nevertheless work towards a healthier community.
Decision making is an integrated structure of events that includes collecting, understanding, and exchanging information (??). Pre-established measures and veto policies are vital when it comes to an organization developing strategies to aid in decision making
