Authors of literary work have always employed stylistic devices to pass their message, Kate
Chopin was no exception. She employs a number of styles in her book, the story of an Hour.
Just like any author she achieves storytelling in a simple and straight forward manner. Some of the stylistic devices she uses are: description, internal monologue, authorial intrusion contrast, figurative expressions, symbolism among others.

In a simplified and clear way, she takes the readers through what Mrs. Mallards husband’s friend, Mr. Richard broke the news first after reading the newspaper on the deadly rail accident that claimed lives of, among others, Mr
Mallard. Thus, the sadistic mood and the theme of death are introduced. This is what is called personal transaction in the writing world (ZInsser). He further ontinue s to say thatgood writing has aliveness that keeps the reader reading. This is exactly what Kate does in expressing herself.
Figurative expressions.
Just like any fiction writer, Kate employs figurative language to make her story relevant,siplmle and conversant to most readers. She uses a number of expresisions to convey the sorrtowful message in a clear way. In the expression the storm of grief, Kate tells readers that the emotional trauma Mrs mallard underwent was heartbreaking as the storm.speaking of the charactyeristics of the storm, violence, terror, unexpected invasion and shock are the emotions that comes out. Further, this brings in another style, use of metaphors. The storm is a metaphor used to describe violent and terror situations as expressed earlier in the characteristics of the storm. My time with Mrs. Chopin was much enjoyed. Chopin is misunderstood as a writer and to say the least people should recognize her work for what it truly is, a work of brilliance. Chopin is the type of writer who brings the struggles of women to life. With The Story of an Hour she shows what women secretly desire in private. Hearing about how she came to write this story was most interesting. Her young life had such an influence on the stories she wrote. Mrs. Kate Chopin is an inspiration. Despite the tough critics Chopin didn’t stop writing regardless of what they all wrote about her
She isn’t verbose and looking to just fill in sentences, she had a lot that she wanted to tell you and managed to get it all in without drowning on, she hits her message home right from page 1. I also found the book to fast-paced which was great for getting inspirational story through to the reader (Life’s short, get to work)

Because of such the bad conditions, it was only a matter of time before people got hurt. They worked long, laboring, dirty hours together, with little to no breaks. The work was dangerous and they had grown closer because of it.
