Atmosphere is a powerfully, ever-present phenomenon that is accepted and attributed to how we perceive an environment. It is relevant in every aspect of a space, and used by designers of all fields to influence, teach and evoke an emotion or mood creatively. There is a kind of intimacy within the development of an atmosphere and it is a “powerful intermediary between the subject and object” (Bohme, 1993, p118). Through the manipulation of various physical components, a designer can set a mood, that seems to fill the void in a space which is important as “an artwork cannot be grasped solely through its concrete qualities” (Bohme, 1993, p116). An important idea within this atmospheric appreciation is that it is how we perceive a space, which creates our mood. Each individual will have a different perception of a space and how the various elements radiate towards him or her. A designer’s aim is to engage the audience for the full duration of being in a space and it is these atmospheric qualities that predominantly control this. This essay will take a significant look at the creation and development of atmosphere within a space, in particular fashion runways. It will give a brief introduction into the idea of an atmosphere and how designers can create certain moods and emotions by controlling various elements within a space. There will be focus on the work of iconic fashion designers, and the atmosphere they individually set out to create.

In art, there are qualities that speak louder than words. It expresses many different messages and emotions and each person has an experience different from the next. In this paper, I will be discussing two artworks I encountered. The piece is a good example of how people can encounter different experiences in one piece. I attended the Orlando Museum of Art a while back with family and overall enjoyed my experience. On my visit, I found the museum quite impressive and felt a deep connection with specific pieces.

Fashion is a form of expression and with its ever changing ideas and trends it explores and creates an array of identities. As Bennett, A. (2005) states “Fashion…provides individuals with a key means through which to manage their identities in the context of everyday life”. I wish to explore how fashion has developed to which identities can be created by oneself and what is around in everyday life and culture that may influence choice in dress. Is fashion a form of agency or structure? I will continue these ideas around gender and in particular fashion photography and how in which gender is represented within the popular mainstream media. Looking at if fashion photography plays a role in challenging gender roles, and therefore creating new ideologies of identity. Or, does fashion photography intertwine with the rest of media in its representation and stereotyping of both genders? Helmut Newton will be used as a case study and the interpretation of his work. This study will also look at the theory behind androgyny and continuing by also looking at dandyism and if these concepts are being constantly played with in the fashion media.

“Moods of Norway” is a fashion leader in the country that even Norwegian Police Department approached Moods to design their uniforms. This high level of awareness partly thanks to the little competition Moods has to face in Norway. Moods also used some other effective ways to raise the awareness. One of those is the fashion show, which was the biggest fashion event in Norway. Other contributors to the high awareness are the pink boat and the image of three owners as a rock band.
