The online era is beginning to change the way we deliver the message to the students. As brokers of information, we have to seek new mediums to reach our students or consumers. Online learning is becoming more popular to reach students to help increase their reading and comprehension of what they read. As a history teacher, it becomes frustrating to assign homework that the students do not do, because they can’t.
The use of technology has the ability to allow teachers to teach the student, instead of teaching the grade level. Jon Bower, CEO of Lexia Learning Systems, points this fact out when he states,
"Technology has a crucial role to play in our schools. Unfortunately, it has little to do with the integrated learning systems,

Key elements for successful online instruction include:
• Insuring that all students assume good intentions.
One of the biggest issues that students have to overcome in a face to face class is the fear of doing well. Steinberg notes,
“Contemporary American society pulls teenagers away from school toward social and recreational pursuits. There is widespread peer pressure not to succeed academically. One of five students say that their friends make fun of people who try to do well in school. More than one-half of all students say they never discuss their schoolwork with friends.”
With the amount of peer pressure that students face, allowing online education is one way to fight out against this. Making learning “cool” Or “important” is a constant battle that we face. Any portion of online education has to overcome this hurdle. Students should be taught in the first on line sitting that we had to assume good intentions and that is where criticism comes from. Without the ability to see facial expressions or hear tone and pitch, things that are printed on the screen can be interpreted in a context that the author never meant. We want our students to think that reading is the key to unlock the doors of success. We are able to use the technology to help dispel the myth that reading is only for “nerds” or that being cool means that you are not supposed to do school work. One misstep can undo a long period of hard work. This can be
Not many people would argue that by increasing the availability of technology in education is a bad thing. There is, however, a serious and thought provoking debate going on regarding the use of technology in the classroom. Some issues are whether technology should be integrated in the classroom as a learning tool, how will students be affected in lower socioeconomic status, and it will improve academic performance.
With high speed internet available to potential students of all economic levels, schools are opting to implement online classes into their traditional teaching curriculum. As a result, our society is divided in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is better than the traditional method of teaching. Personally, I believe both methods should balance one another instead of attempting to substitute one another; this way their purpose of educating will be far more successful.
Online classes are rapidly becoming a more popular and accepted option among many students. An online course is a course where all or most course material is delivered online and there is little to no face-to-face contact with the instructor or other students in the class. Although online classes have been around for quite a long while, they have only recently become more popular among students. According to one article on the topic of online education, “6.7 million students enrolled in at least one online course in fall 2011—an increase of more than 500,000 students compared to 2010” (Bird). Another article says that in 2014, “an additional 411,000 students enrolled in their first online course increasing the total number of online students in the U.S. to 7.1 million,” a 6.1 percent increase from the number of students enrolled in the year of 2012 (Vista College). This article also states that “one out of every three higher education students has at least one online course; an all-time high” (Vista College). This recent increase in the popularity of online classes may have been caused because of advances in and increased use of technology, the accessibility and convenience of online classes and the flexibility they provide, and because online classes allow the student to work at his/her own pace.
Three-quarters of teachers surveyed link educational technology to a growing list of benefits, saying technology enables them to reinforce and expand on content (74%), to motivate students to learn (74%), and to respond to a variety of learning styles (73%). Seven in 10 teachers (69%) surveyed said educational technology allows them to “do much more than ever before” for their students.
In the simplest form, Online Reading can be defined as The process of extracting meaning from a text that is in a digital format. Also called digital reading and it is also known as one of the tools that help students to learn new languages, or how to fix anything. Taking online courses is another tool that does what reading online do for students it can be simply defined as revolutionizing formal education, and have opened a new genre of outreach on cultural and scientific topics. But some people believe that online reading is a better way to improve student’s cognitive abilities and their comprehension skills than taking online courses. However, taking online courses opens a range of options and provides instructions for students to improve themselves; also, taking online courses provides students time to do what
The world today is slowly changing into a technologically advanced universe where teaching methods are changing by the day. With growing tension on how individuals want to approach today’s learning system, many find themselves stuck between brick and mortal schools and today’s new rising learning choice, online schools. But why online schools? Online schools have become a safer and more comfortable learning alternative to brick and mortal schools.
Before start I would like to put a little introduction talk about internet. Internet is the thing that let us communicate so easily, play online, download music, movies, etc. Is the thing why we don’t have to go to a library to do a homework and it give us a lot of facilities. Internet is the union of all the networks and computers distributed throughout the world, so it has been detected as a global network in which all the networks that use TCP / IP protocols and are compatible with each other. The internet has a lot of advantages as we know but also it has a lot of disadvantages. Kids are one of the biggest targets of the disadvantages, watching things they shouldn’t.
David Thornburg, an award-winning futurist, author, and consultant and the head of the Thornburg Center, explained, “Any teacher that can be replaced with a computer, deserves to be.” Technology in the classroom is the future for learning and students will be more engaged in learning off of computers rather than textbooks. Even though technology can take over much a child’s time, it can improve grades in school and help them be more engaged and learn more information than they would have out of a schoolbook. Before using particular technologies in curriculum and instruction, schools should consider three benefits technologies can bring including the following: unlimited knowledge, quicker communication, smarter investment than books because it is a part of the future.
Negative views of online classroom structure rightly point out difficulties in the learning experience when face to face
Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
Education is an important part of people’s lives; it will either make them or break them in the future depending on the careers they choose. Education is greatly diverse today in comparison to the 1950s because of advancements in teaching and other great inventions that provide easier techniques of teaching. One major issue that has been raised is distant learning courses and online education.
Successful societies have been made of many critical elements. One of the critical elements that found a strong society is education. Education is a factor that has been evolving with our ever-changing society. One of the most recent evolutions of education is the emergence of online education. Online education is defined as the ability for students to take classes that they would normally take in an in-class setting, online. The only significantly different factor about online classes and a nominal class setting is the meeting time. Students that are enrolled in an online class “have access to the same course content and instruction that is available to students on campus”. Online education has a history that could be dated back to the
Education is known to be face to face learning experience. However, with technology at the top of its game, technology is being incorporated into the classroom. For instance, if a child has a question or is struggling in a subject area, there are other outlets than just the teacher that can help the student find the answer or guide them to better understanding when they are struggling. In addition, online education is also a resourceful outlet that could benefit a child’s learning if say he or she no longer wanted to attend a traditional school, has an illness, or as simple as helping a student make up a credit he or she needs to graduate. By the same token, education leaders have switched from the traditional pen to paper method for online testing. Education incorporates technology with online education, online resources, and online testing.
The last few decades has seen a rapid development in internet and electronic devises industry. At the same time, online learning, as a form of distance education, “imposes itself strongly and becomes a core concern of human thought and modern life.” (Saleem, 2016, p.53). As an untraditional method of education, online learning is very different from traditional ones. Those different make the outcome of online learning hard to be evaluated and examined. However, due to its low cost and high flexibility, online learning can help people achieve life-learning and may have a profound influence in the development of intellectual capital. There is a need to determine the effect of online learning as a form of education to see how it works, and how students learn.
What is good for the development of the teachers is equally if not more vital to the students. There have been thousands of studies calculating the effect that technology has on the learning process. One of these studies was done by the Milken Family Foundation and Education Week in West Virginia, the first state to do a statewide learning program and test for its effectiveness. It is stated in the results that the effective use of technological programs can and does “advance both the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics as well as students’ ability to think critically and creatively.” In a different study conducted by James Kulik, a research scientist at the Center for Research and Learning at the University of Michigan that has done well over 100 studies comparing classrooms that used computer aided education with classrooms that did not, stated that “students in the computer using classrooms learned more and learned it faster”(www.edweek.org). The more accurate information thateducators can give to students and the faster the students understand the material, the more developed that our education systems will be and in effect will turn out
