I try now to get closer when shooting street photography than I did in the past. But not with a long lens. For a street portrait I ask the person for permission which allows me to get close without upsetting someone. However, this does not apply on a candid shot. Nowadays with internet and social media people are far more skeptical about becoming the subject of a photograph. In this case one or another maybe not happy about being photographed.
Despite the fact that we usually don’t intend to show someone in a degrading point of view, there are - besides ethics, some legal issues we have to keep in mind.
In every country you have to face different laws when it comes to candid street photography. Because of the fact that I’m a based in Vienna
In this day and age, celebrities cannot go anywhere without being followed by the press, or better known as paparazzi. Social media is filled with leaked stories about certain famous icons, and magazines are filled with shocking photos of some pretty well known faces in America. But it hasn’t always been this way. With the help of the rapid improvements of technology, popular magazine covers have changed from being adorable photos of famous families enjoying a day on the beach to horrific images revealing secrets of one’s private life. In 1962, the beloved president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, and one of the world’s most famous actresses, Marilyn Monroe, were believed
The Elijah Anderson’s article, “Code of the Streets” is a perfect illustration for cultural arguments because it involves environments that are susceptible to learning a criminal culture; even up to a point of promoting that type of criminal behavior as “normal”. It also has links to Differential Association and Social Learning theories of crime
Sally Mann’s child photography should not be censored due to other people’s views or distaste for her child photography. She has the right to express her love for her children and herself through the arts. As a mother, she experienced a significant amount of backlash which is a common narrative in current society. By censoring her form of expression of her kids, we are restricting the mother’s right over her children. As a matter of fact, a large negative criticism of Sally Mann’s photos is that many consider her child photography to be obscene when in fact it is not obscene. According to a court case called Miller vs. California, art is only considered obscene if it meets all of the following criteria: 1) the average person finds the art lustful with prurient interest, 2) the art is offensive and displays any sexual conduct that is defined by the state law, and 3) the art lacks artistic, literary, political, or scientific value. Sally Mann’s child photography does not meet the criteria since the average person does not find her work to be salacious, the art displays no sexual conduct or penetration in any form, and her work lacks no artistic value. In fact, her art displayed a significant amount of artistic value due to the controversy and her way of challenging the hegemonic ideals of society. Thus, her work should not be censored because it is not considered obscene in the state law.

The national media firestorm has created an immense amount of public interest regarding body cameras. In the wake of numerous publicized police shootings of civilian suspects, the public outcry resulted in police officers in several cities to wear body cameras. These cameras record the actions of police officers as they respond to 911 calls and conduct traffic stops. One of these cities is Chicago. The Chicago police department began using body cameras at the beginning of 2015 in the Northwest Side Shakespeare District. There are now 2,000 body cameras spread across about a third of the city's police sectors. It was recently announced that the police departments would expand their use.
A shot rings out in the night and soon after, there is a body in the streets. Within days there are multiple eye witnesses on the news, protests in the streets and silence from official sources. This has become an all too common occurrence today in regards to police where the public outcry after deadly force incident can go out of control before officials have had a chance to review the facts. Nearly 1,000 people were killed by police in 2016, with 2017 on pace to top that (Washington Post). One of the most publicly sought after improvements, as there are few answers, to his situation is the mandatory use of body cameras by law enforcement officials. In theory, body cameras would preserve a public record of at least
In this paper, I plan to first describe the “Code of the Street” which is a term coined and a book written by Elijah Anderson. I would also summarize and describe two journal articles that test Anderson’s idea of the “Code of the Street” for a more definite explanation. I will tell how the two articles that I have chosen relates to some of the concepts that Anderson talked about in the book. I will then define general strain theory and social learning or differential association theory. Lastly, I will explain how general strain theory and social learning theory or differential association theory explain some of the behaviors that were seen by the individuals in the book published by Anderson. I will point out some of the individual’s behavior and demonstrate whether it may lead to crime or whether the behavior was learned in any way.
In the excerpt from Ann Petry’s novel, The Street, Petry establishes Lutie Johnson’s relationship to the urban setting. Petry sets a third-person omniscient pov to capture the harshness of the wind, which is the main antagonist of the excerpt. The narrator successfully captures the bitterness of the wind by using descriptive imagery and vivid personality.
The question of paparazzi threatening privacy and First Amendment rights is often to situational to argue in a conventional manner, but certainly there are many facets of the issue which can be addressed in a quite straightforward manner. Celebrities who feel they have the right to privacy in public places often muddy the waters of this issue. Oddly enough, those celebrities who have chosen to speak out against what they feel are violations of their privacy most always begin their campaigns with a large press conference. In other words, they gather together those people they wish to not only suppress but also berate in hopes that these people will use their positions and skills to

WDBJ broadcasted a news report about a former adult film star who joined a local volunteer rescue squad, including a video clip depicting the woman’s head and shoulders obtained from a video distributor’s website. The clip from the website featured a number of small boxes off to the side with previews of other videos, one of which featured a hand manipulating an erect penis. The staff at WDBJ failed to edit out the auxiliary clips because they appeared outside of the viewing constraints of the station’s editing bay. The small clip at issue aired for approximately three seconds of the three minute and twenty-second segment.
Under a utilitarian view this action is morally justifiable if the men who see the photos happiness and pleasure outweigh the woman’s discomfort. Even if she finds out it would still be morally justifiable if her humiliation is less than the happiness and pleasure the photos caused. Utilitarianism justifies the maltreatment of people, which strongly contradicts our moral intuitions. For it is not moral to violate someone’s rights, or to use them as pawn for others happiness and pleasure. It is wrong for someone in a position of authority to be morally justified in using their power for manipulation.
Ethics Pornography is a social problem and is a commodity brought into existence by certain characteristics of a highly developed civilization. The problem with pornography is that any form of censorship or downplay cannot solve it. It is difficult to draw the line between ones right to express their ideas and or opinions or sexuality
The United States has over twenty-five hundred strip clubs, and thousands of pornographic videos are being released each year (Katz 21). This is not a society that respects women and their bodies. Instead, it is one that teaches men of every age that it is acceptable to look at a woman as though she is a piece of meat because that is what happens on the television; it is admissible,
Celebrities have a right to have their own privacy, and the paparazzi had better not be allowed to restrict their lives. Furthermore, photographers and journalists must not be permitted to make news that can influence celebrities' success adversely. The rights of celebrities for privacy have always been abused, so they need to defend their rights, despite their profession. Though they are public figures, this does not mean that the publish of every detail of their private lives is justifiable. It is legitimate to take pictures when they are at the stage or on the red carpet, yet most cases they must be left alone. However, the media always inclines to release both sensational and negative news to public. The latest pattern is the Chris Brown and Rihanna domestic abuse scandal ("Chris Brown and Rihanna: A Dangerous Relationship" 1). This really influenced Chris
