Deforestation is a concerning issue that has come about within the past decade that hasn’t been getting much attention. Deforestation is defined as the clearing or removal of a forest or group of trees where the land is not used for forest use afterwards. The land could be used for urbanization, farms, ranches, extra land, or anything that the country needs that piece of land for. Deforestation has become more common and the industry for it has increased rapidly. Although so many people have increased the amount of deforestation, they don’t realize the effects that it can bring upon the world and its environment. Deforestation not only affects the United States, but effects countries all over the world in multiple ways. Each way that …show more content…
The deforestation is leading to the extinction of animals and the decrease in certain vegetation. This puts stress on the world and makes it harder for humans and animals to survive. These things are affecting multiple places, but have affected East Asia quite drastically. (worldwildlife.org) In Southeast Asia, there is so much vegetation that they rely on rain and dry times of the year. Some times of the year it is flooding weather and they struggle with that as humans, but it helps the forests and vegetation, other times of the years it is a complete drought and they rely on that as well. With the clearing of forest and vegetation to convert it into grasslands, has affected the climate, rain amount, and the pattern that it has been raining. This has led to increased droughts and an increased demand for water. This will then lead to an altered production of crops and essentially will decrease the amount of money that Southeast Asia will be making. It puts a stress on the country, people, and animals. It hurts the environment and is bad for not only Southeast Asia, but for El Salvador as well. In El Salvador, they rely on trees to help the grow crops, coffee, that is their biggest money grabber. The trees provide shade for growing shade coffee and they help prevent many other things as well. They help prevent erosion of the ground, flooding of that area, and environmental changes to help protect coffee production. This has
According to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated 18 million acres of forest, which is roughly the size of the country of Panama, are lost each year. Undeniably, the deteriorating environmental situation, the increasingly severe pollution of the atmosphere, and water, the severe damage to the living environment of wild animals and plants, the extinction of many species, the deforestation and the transitional mining of mineral resources caused contrary facts. Human existence and development have brought real and more serious potential threats. The scarcity of environmental resources is manifested gradually. As environmental issues are becoming a bottleneck restricting economic growth, it is imperative that lousy effect governed the environment.
As far as materials go, one can see that humans have been positively benefited with an abundance of materials made out of wood, due to the increase in deforestation. Things such as, homes, desk, tables, and chairs all are positive takeaways from deforestation. Working forests form the foundation of the timber industry that supports nearly 106,000 workers, and generates 5.2 billion in wages annually. Some of the negative effects of deforestation on humans are, a slow loss of the world's leading producer of oxygen, trees. Without forest, 50 percent of the nation's water supply will go unfiltered, and 12 percent of the U.S carbon release won’t be absorbed, according to, the U.S plant a billion trees movements. Also with a lack of trees, the problem of erosion arises, roads, houses, and commercial real-estate will all be negatively affected. Aside from the negative effect of humans deforestation will have a huge negative effects on animals. Migration patterns will be dramatically change, and due to a loss of habitat, animals will be pushed in closer to humans, which will result in an abundance of change. Deforestation has also proved beneficial for animals. The opening up of the landscape promotes the growth of low-lying vegetation that mammals feed on. Also the deer and elk population thrive on young successional forests, especially in areas following wildlife or timber harvest. America’s
Deforestation is the action or process of the clearing of forests. Deforestation makes what we know as a cause and effect system. We cause the problems, and the effect is the aftermath of our actions. Some causes of deforestation include urbanization, climate, and overpopulation. And some effects include soil erosion, water cycle, and species loss. Removing trees at the pace we’re going now could lead to the vanishing of trees in a few hundred years("Deforestation"). Yes, we need the resources to survive, but the outcome of deforestation at such a fast pace could leave the future with nothing.
Livestock and farms may not be nearly as profitable as a living, considering the thriving forests on a planetary scale. That is saying that regardless to the benefits of deforestation they aren't helping because the are using the trees for profits the trees are going away since no additional trees are planted. In the text Good bye rain forest it states “that One reason is that tropical rain forests contain valuable timber-such as walnut, mahogany, rosewood, balsa, sandalwood, and teak. Tropical woods are used for flooring, furniture, railroad ties, boatbuilding, bowls, drawing boards, and even toys. One tree can be Worth hundreds of dollars. This is saying that one main reason that they are cutting down the trees are because of what type of wood it is and they are also cutting it down for what the wood can make”. In the text Goodbye rain forest it states “As more and more trees are cut, fewer remain and the price of timber rises. In the text Rainforest Resources it states that “Many kinds of hardwoods are found in the Amazon Rainforest. Hardwoods are used to make furniture, musical instruments, boats, and even coffins. Some of these hardwoods include teak, rosewood, and mahogany.
Deforestation is the destruction of a wide area of forest land into a cleared land that is used for a variety of reasons. The impact on the environment from cutting down, burning and damaging forests is very detrimental and there are severe consequences for the environment and future generations because of deforestation. According to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization approximately 7.3 million hectares of forests are being destroyed per year in the world (Bradford, 2015). In this essay, I will explore the impact that deforestation on the environment and I will also look at the actions that are being taken to prevent deforestation. There are various reasons why deforestation is occurring despite its negative effects on the environment. Deforestation can cause very serious environmental problems such as climate change, flooding, loss of habitats as well as others.
Deforestation is defined as: “the clearing of virgin forests, or intentional destruction or removal of trees and other vegetation for agricultural, commercial, housing, or firewood use without replanting and without allowing time for the forest to regenerate itself” (SCRIBD). Deforestation has been a problem in Latin America since the early 1900s and the severity of the dilemma is increasing rapidly. Deforestation not only has consequences for the environment, but also, the indigenous people and the national economy. The logging industry in Latin America is often exploited by multinational companies that are not properly regulated. The land that has provided a home and cultivated indigenous development for centuries is being dissipated rapidly. Due to an exponentially growing global population, there is an increased demand for low priced goods--like timber, crops, and meat. Many Latin American countries value revenue from selling these goods over the health of their local ecosystems. The crisis of deforestation and habitat loss is shifting from a local to global problem. As deforestation continues, global warming escalates worldwide, impacting every country and person. About 15 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from tropical deforestation, which is more than from all the world’s cars, trucks and buses combined (Schwartzman). Puerto Rico and Brazil provide contrasting examples of the impact of deforestation. Puerto Rico had an economic and environmental shift
Imagine all the beautiful creatures happily living their days in the forest , resting in the sun and just enjoying their time on Earth. Well ... these peacful animals just got a very rude awakening because someone decide to deforest their area. Deforestation is the process of converting forest lands into non-forested areas. It is estimated that between 50-100 species are lost each day as a reasult of forestry . Deforestation should be stopped , there is no reason to destroy our forest . It is a heartless and selfish thing to do , it needs to be put to a stop for good .
1.6 billion people rely on benefits forests offer, including food, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter. When the forest that they rely on vanishes it causes major problems. One way deforestation affects the indigenous people is by taking away the food for the people. The tribes hunt smaller animals like monkeys and deer. Then when the animals die, the tribes cannot create a stable food supply for their families. According to John D. Castello of New York State University with degrees in Environmental and Forest Biology says "Available evidence suggests deforestation has very strong effects on freshwater ecosystems." This occurs because trees are a large part of the water cycle. When it rains the trees suck up the water and absorbs it to create chlorophyll b then realises it as water vapor. When the trees are taken out, it causes mass floodings. These floods are devastating to the native populations. When it floods, it creates a lot of water in the rivers that the people fish in with nets, and because the water its two high it makes their fishing style ineffective, making the families go without food. Even if the indigenous people are farmer It still affects them. It affects them because the trees hold down the nutritious soil from washing away, but when the trees disappear it allows the valuable soil to disappear, making the soil unfarmable. Deforestation also affects the people's water supply.
The Amazon Rainforest is a mighty jungle filled with an array of exotic species of wood, like mahogany, and rich natural resources such as gold, copper, tin, and nickel. Naturally, people want to make a profit, but the rainforest’s trees stand in the way. Logging is the main source of deforestation. Every year, millions of trees are cut down to be made into timber. Many times, these logging operations are illegal. These operations will keep exploiting the Amazon for its exotic timber, not caring that many of these species of plants are either rare, or help support rare species and ecosystems. Mining also creates deforestation, but not as severely as logging. Trees are cut down to make way for mining operations that dig for non renewable resources like copper and gold. Trees are also used as charcoal to help produce pig iron. A third cause of deforestation is agriculture. Cattle ranches and soy plantations are created where the Amazon Rainforest once stood. As people expand their farms, they must cut down the areas they now use for farming. Trees are also cut to make space for animal pens. Governments also contribute to the deforestation problem by building roads and creating infrastructure. Although these roads help with communication and navigation, they cut through the rainforest, and often help illegal loggers create new roads from their operations in the jungle to these roads that connect with civilization. All of these factors have helped cut down the Amazon Rainforest. In the past
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. Half of the world’s tropical forests have been cleared or degraded. Some people ask why forests’ are being cleared. It is typically done to make more land available for other things like housing, cash crops, oil, and cattle ranching. Most of what everyone does with deforestation is said to be illegal. Common methods of deforestation are clear cutting and burning trees. The burning method can be done either quickly or slowly. Quickly for plantation use or more slowly using the slash and burn technique. The many reasons why farmers and other people do that is to get money to feed there family or like it was stated early, to make room for growing crops or livestock. Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to people’s need to provide for there families or money. Logging operations, which provide the world’s paper and wood products, also cut a number of trees down each year. Loggers, some of them doing it illegally, also build roads to get to more and more remote forests, which leads to further deforestation. Not all deforestation is a terrible thing and intentional. Deforestation comes in handy when in need to build a new oil place. There are a lot of natural factors that play into deforestation like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing. Most of the deforestation occurs in the tropics, which is a terrible place because they have poor soil for
From 1990 to 2005, deforestation, or the removal of trees, was happening at an average rate of 13 million hectares (32.11 million acres) per year (Hope 247). In many ways, deforestation has been the reason for great economic success which turns people on to the idea even more. Deforestation is an essential element in promoting and encouraging developmental growth. Some places around the world may feel obligated to resort to deforestation due to population increases around the world. The concept of deforestation may seem to have a positive impact on society, but many people fail to consider the importance of replanting the trees that were harvested and removed. Deforestation mainly affects North and South America, but because of the Transamazon
caused by deforestation is well known and right now it seems as if the effects are to an extent
Deforestation in Honduras started to become a huge problem in the 1990’s. Before that Honduras was almost completely covered in trees. Today because of Deforestation a little over half the tree population has been completely wiped out. Between 1990 and 2005 Honduras saw a decline of 35% of its forest cover. Because only half of the trees in Honduras are remaining that will push all the animals from the non covered areas to the forests that are left and that will cause problems.
In addition to logging for exportation, rainforest wood stays in developing countries for fuel wood and charcoal. One single steel plant in Brazil making steel for Japanese cars needs millions of tons of wood each year to produce charcoal that can be used in the manufacture of steel. Then there is the paper industry. A pulpwood project in the Brazilian Amazon consists of a Japanese power plant and pulp mill. To set up this single plant operation, 5,600 square miles of Amazon Rainforest was burned to the ground and replanted
Deforestation is a problem that does not concern many people, but it is an issue that the people of Earth need to deal with. In the past 50 years deforestation has increased a significant amount, but people around the world have been removing the forests since the 1600s. The forests remaining are in danger as the human population goes up, the need for resources will also increase and this will make the deforestation of the last forests come quicker before humans realize it is too late. Unless the people address this threat to the world, it will be too late because this is something that can be fixed, the forests can be rebuilt but it has to start right now before there is nothing people can do. There are many causes for deforestation such as, clearing space for urbanization, making areas available for houses, or harvesting the lumber for goods and other consumer items and all of these have an effect on the world. The consequences of deforestation can affect all aspects of life on Earth, including the water cycle, the soil, and the life quality of species around the world.
