A friend of an old colleague Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan Nick’s cousin once removed, and married to Tom. Finally, there is Jay Gatsby, Daisy’s old lover, and Nick’s very wealthy neighbor. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald suggests that the American dream is naïve, the people who pursue it are oblivious to reality, and foolish.
