In general, how successful was the lesson? Did the students learn what you intended for them to learn? How did you know?
-I believe the lesson was very successful. In the beginning of the lesson, the students were engaged with the Do Now: “Who are some explores that you know? Which European nations went exploring?” I had multiple students answer with explorers from the time period we were discussing and other from American History. For example some students said, “Lewis and Clark and Buzz Aldrin.” Second, when the students were logging into Schoology and downloading the Historical Head worksheet and directions, multiple students were helping each other get on task. The students were working diligently throughout the period answering the

Some students show their personal talents by drawing images associated with their assigned explorers. Others students asked multiple questions to ensure that they were staying on task or asking me to provide feedback for their work during the period. Some of the students were looking at other websites for more historical information about their explorer then the document that was provided.
What formative assessments did you use during this lesson to monitor student progress? How did you adjust instruction based on this data?
-The formative assessments that I used to monitor the student progress were periodically checking to see how far along the students were in completing the assignment. I also provided more instruction, examples, and made sure the students were answering all the questions that were required. When I saw that multiple students were struggling with one or more of the required questions. I brought the class back together and provided examples of what I was looking for and expending from their work. For example, “Symbols that best represent the historical figure.” I told the class that these should be actual images of the explorer, where they traveled to, how did they get there, and which nation where they from. Another example of the adjustment was for, “I hope history remembers me as…” I told the class the example of Michael Jordon wants to be remembered for being one the greatest basketball players of all time. I also, said
When I completed this lesson I actually felt I should re-think my decision to become an educator. Mrs. Anderson makes this job look easy. I had prepared my science lesson plan Monday and scheduled to start a 3-day lesson on Wednesday. I tried to keep my lesson close to the basal/textbook. I feel as though the students responded positively. They were responsible in raising their hands to answer questions. I had a note to “slow down” in my notes. This helped me pace my lesson appropriately. I felt confident….and then I did not! HOWEVER, this time I did not speed up my speaking and rush through the lesson as quickly as possible. I added a few examples that were not on my plan with the hopes to explain matter to the students and I believe that helped one or two students. I felt, as a class, we stayed on topic the entire class. There were a

Through completing this activity, I learned more than I have with any other activity I have done thus far while earning my Education Specialist degree. I had to observe a teacher and provide constructive feedback using the Framework for Teaching. This observation included a pre-conference where the teacher told me what she wanted me to pay particular attention to. It required that I observe in real-time, rather than simply using a video where I can pause frequently. I then had to analyze the data I collected during the observation, in order to determine strengths and areas for improvement that I shared during the post-conference. The teacher was a master teacher and thought the lesson went very well. She was shocked when I had some ideas for how to improve her instruction. I mentioned that students seemed fidgety, and she could incorporate more cooperative structures to get students more active in their learning. I also thought she needed cooperative roles for students when they completed their group work, that way everyone was accountable for the work.
I will be responsible for expanding my students’ zone of proximal development. I hope to take my students from the level of minimal prior knowledge with expansive help to the level of being able to work independently with a high level of proximal development. By building the students zone of proximal development, I will be able to ensure that the students will be successful not only in my class but future classes. The unit plan I have developed is based on North Carolina’s Common Core and Essential standards, and will ensure that the students are learning and meeting the necessary goals required of them in the fourth grade. Students in the fourth grade have a foundation for knowledge, however, they are constantly becoming more inquisitive and wanting to learn more details. This inquisitiveness provides the opportunity to cover material they already know and then expand upon it. The topic of the Lost Colony of Roanoke will allow the students to make connections to how the Americas began and make connections to the real world, as well as

4. Each day will begin or end with an informal formative assessment to remind and rehearse the previous day’s knowledge and to see what the students have maintained from the day before. This is going to be a simple 1-2-3 check. The first version of this will be used as a post lesson check. Students will
I personally think that my lesson went pretty well. It seemed like many people were engaged and they participated. There are things that I could have done to make the activity more challenging for the consonant digraphs and consonant blends, but overall I think the activity was fun. I felt like the students payed attention to when I was speaking at the beginning and the end of the activity, which was ideal for any lesson.
In general, I feel that this lesson was generally successful. The students, for the most part were engaged and thinking about the North East region. During the previous lesson, we discussed that the regions were divided by climate, culture, geography and economy and the students were able to apply those concepts to the lesson. Because they are familiar with this region, because it is our home region, they were able to compare and analyze aspects of this region to the other regions. They determined the climate, culture, economy and geography of this region by activating prior knowledge and sharing what they knew about the
During my experience at Challenge Academy in Fall 2015 I heavily relied on continuous formative assessment to determine my student’s attentiveness and level of comprehension. At the beginning of each session I would have the student explain what she had previously covered to check her understanding and we would also discuss what areas she struggled with or enjoyed. Throughout lessons my student would respond to verbal questions I asked, get feedback on her answers through the comprehension check and quiz questions on Gradpoint, and demonstrate her understanding to me through drawings and work. After my student took her post-test we would take time to reflect on her progress and discuss a plan for how to continue improving.
One of the biggest weaknesses in executing the lesson, to include a self-assessment, was my lack of ability to learn names quickly, fully understanding the climate of the classes, and lack of experience with teaching the subjects. Many day to day adjustments had to be made in both subject areas. One in particular for the Geometry classroom was that the PowerPoint presentations had to be adjusted to further break down and reteach Algebra concepts, the lowers level learning objectives, prior knowledge that did not consistently transfer to this classroom. In addition, the anti-bullying assignment was changed from a group assignment, an anti-bullying campaign to an individual quick write essay where basically the whole class successfully shared
There were two things that I was highly pleased with in regard to my second lesson. I showed a short video at the beginning of the class, it was a funny song about regrouping. All of the kids started laughing and dancing, even my host teacher started laughing. I loved seeing the students be engaged and enjoy the short song. It was easy for me to talk about the objective of the lesson after this song because the students were already engaged and the song related directly to the objective. The other aspect of the lesson that I was very pleased with was when I had individual students come up to the board to solve problems and then I would ask the other students if they agreed or understood. When I asked them, I had them either put a their hand on their head or their finger on their nose. The students seemed to enjoy this as well as it was a visual way for me to see who understood and who did not.
This lesson was the first one I did during practicum week and I thought it went very well. I did this lesson in the morning pretty much after calendar time. We had to wait a couple minutes for some of the students to get back from extra reading practice. When I went up to the front of the room a lot of the students got excited. Considering I was somebody new, they thought it would be fun for me to teach them. I first asked the students what long vowel sounds they have been working on and almost all of the students raised their hands. I was very proud of the fact that I did not have any trouble with names when I was calling on them. I started the lesson with those questions in order to get them ready for the lesson, it was a quick warm up in order to start thinking about what we will be doing.
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, success means to obtain a “favorable or desired outcome such as“the attainment of wealth”. This is why many believe that in order to be “successful” someone needs a good education and a job, two things told to children repeatedly since the day they were born. It would be phenomenal for every single person in our society to have as equal an opportunity for success as the next. However due to many factors including race, religion, and sex, they do not.
Although I was very pleased with my lesson, there was a couple component in particular that I would have changed to make my lesson stronger. The first component would be to use more vocabulary throughout my
Overall I think that the students did learn something, they seemed to have fun doing the activity, and I had fun teaching them. The students did respond to the lesson in a positive way and were able to comprehend what it was I wanted them to do. Below is a copy of the lesson plan used.
