Introduction
I. There is an issue on this planet that will define this generation. The issue is climate change. Global warming. A world on the collapse as our oceans are acidified, our air polluted, our forests disappearing, and human rights issues getting worse. It seems that people are not aware of how big climate change actually is. It’s not something that only takes place on the ice caps or in the forests on the far corners of the world. This is an issue that happens here, and now. It’s real. It’s happening.
II. On the bright side, there are things we can do. This issue is a result of our lack of action, our lifestyles, and our way of living. Many people want to help, but are not even sure where to begin. One-way thing that we can do is to reduce the amount of co2 in our atmosphere. There are simple changes we can make in our daily routines to get started in doing that.
III. I’m going to give you some options in things that you can implement or change in your way of living that can help with the issue of climate change. These things will help cut carbon in the atmosphere.
IV. As a kid I never really comprehended how vital it was to take care of this planet. As I went through many life changes I became aware of this necessity, I am currently an intern for Greenpeace and I get to passionately do something to help ensure that this planet, and the people who will come after us can thrive.
(Transition: In order to do this we have to realize what it is that is actually
When I polled a few of my friends about “what is the single most critical problem facing us today?” I got a frequent response that’s not so shocking, climate change. So why climate change? Why not obesity, or population control, or education? While all of those are problems that deserve discussion, no single topic is so fundamental to us as humans as climate change. In 2007 Al Gore stated in his person of the year interview that “Today we 're dumping 70 million tons of global-warming pollution into the environment, and tomorrow we will dump more, and there is no effective worldwide response. Until we start sharply reducing global-warming pollution, I will feel that I have failed.” (Walsh) Perhaps the paradigm has changed. Climate change is now talked about at every level of government, in large and small businesses, and communities across the globe. It’s a topic that functions to affect our economy and our environment. Moving forward, it’s important to understand why our way of life will be affected by the way we tackle these issues surrounding climate change. Climate change is the single most important issue affecting the human race today due to its widespread impact on our survival; impacting food sources, transportation, weather, geography and other life forms on the earth.
Climate change is one of the most talked-about topics since the past two decades. The planet and its habitants are suffering from this change and, at first sight, people think that they are the only affected by climate change, but this thought is incorrect. In fact, the fauna and flora, and of course the weather are also affected. To combat these problems, many scientists are trying to analyze the behavior of the animals and of the plants to see their reactions to its changes, 195 countries try to find solutions to slow down this phenomenon at the Conference of the Parties every year, awareness campaigns are launched so that citizens can contribute to this slowdown and many more. Many disasters are caused by global warming and this is likely
Global warming has escalated at the fastest rate in recorded history. We Americans don’t realize how much CO2 is produced every year. The burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest provenance heat-trapping pollution. The United States comes in second of producing large amounts of CO2. Many climate changes have occurred due to the burning of fossil fuels. We need to reduce the burning of fossil fuels and start utilizing clean energy. Us Americans need to stop utilizing gas-operated cars instead we should use battery operated cars which is better for the
I am in this club called Save Club. Save Club really made me interested in our environment and concerned about Climate Change. In Save Club you learn so much about the environment. You learn the way plants grow, the harsh chemicals that destroy our environment, and different ways to help clean the our environment and make it better. In Save Club we have planted fruits, flowers, and vegetables around our school. We have also went camping and on a multitude of other field trips. This group taught me so much about all the environmental problems and open my eyes about the fact that we need to slow down climate change.
Today carbon emissions are the highest they have been in the world since the industrial revolution and if we don't change, we could destroy whole ecosystems. According to recent studies the united states is the leading producer of carbon emissions in the world. We need to address the issue and start a cause for change before everything is damaged.
Global climate change has been a controversial issue for many years. Global climate change, often referred to as ‘global warming,’ is a broad issue that encompasses many categories. However, I have decided to focus more the on the health issues that arise due to the effects that Global Climate Change has had on this planet. As a concerned citizen, it is important to take into account where diseases are coming from and why people are getting ill; whether this is caused due to sanitation, vector or food borne factors. If physicians are able to practice preventative medicine more, then there is a chance to decrease the number of people that get ill. Global Climate Change is and should be a topic of concern because it is affecting the health of
Everyday society evolves, new technologies and ideas are born, although life seems perfect there are many reasons to be scared. Ever since the industrial revolution started the production of carbon dioxide has gone up in tremendous quantities. Because of this increase in greenhouse gases the earth has experienced drastic changes. These changes are the reason for why humanity should be scared, humans have control of many things but weather and natural disasters are not something we can control. On the other hand, society has taken steps to diminish the production of carbon dioxide, although this process may take time to make a significant impact it provides humanity with a reason to feel like our situation will improve. It is easy to feel good about these current efforts towards resolving climate change. However, to make a serious impact on the problem, we need to diminish our carbon dioxide footprint significantly, and
The key issue of our time, according to McMichael, is global climate change (McMichael, 2008). Because of the greenhouse effect, overall temperatures of the earth have gradually increased to dangerous levels making global climate change the greatest environmental threat. Furthermore, it is believed climate change may be irreversible at this point. There is minimal time to reverse the greenhouse effect, and the goal is a ninety percent reduction in gas emissions. There is significant scientific evidence that more than a two percent Fahrenheit increase in the global temperature threatens the planet's natural systems and human well-being and health. As the world races against time to prevent the earth from becoming uninhabitable, world leaders
Global Warming is a recurring problem not just for the United States, but the entire world. Although it is an international crisis, Americans should be encouraged to be eco-friendly at home. Even though our homes put out a lot of energy, driving is terrible for the environment and pollutes the air with fossil fuels, therefore people should think about their transportation methods and consider cleaner ways to get around. We as individuals make only a small difference, cities need to encourage large-scale projects to help because without the push to do something nothing will ever be solved. Most importantly, in a country that routinely denies the existence of Global Warming, individual contributions to the fight of Global Warming are more important
Climate change. A buzz spreading around the world that has been known for decades but has recently bloomed into a rather controversial topic. With the topic being brought up in political debates, presidential speeches, as well as everyday conversations, there is one thing everyone can agree on: climate change is happening. Climatologists have proven with scientific evidence that the earth is rising in temperature and that this is a growing threat to our society. (AAAS) Although everyone agrees on this, there is still a disagreement on why climate change is happening and how can someone stop it? The two questions are really one in the same because once we get to the root of the issue we can prevent it from happening. Climate change remains a crucial problem in the U.S. and there are different approaches are being considered on how to solve this issue coming from our states, our president, and our congressman.
Is mankind going to willingly make life on Earth miserable for the next generation? Our climate is changing due to humanity’s irresponsible actions, and many are just living their lives as if nothing is going on. The issue of anthropogenic, or human caused climate change has arose due to the increase in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere. Of these, Carbon dioxide is a huge culprit in anthropogenic climate change, as humans produce incredible amounts of it through environmentally irresponsible machines. Also, the issue of anthropogenic climate change is becoming a political issue, with the main argument being over regulation of businesses to reduce carbon output. Whether humans are politically active or not, they need to realize that anthropogenic climate change is a real issue and begin to fix it. To realize that the issue of anthropogenic climate change is true and begin to fix it, the population of Earth must understand the evidence of the crisis, the effects of the crisis, and how it can be fixed.
Take a deep breath and imagine it is Sunday morning. The birds are chirping, the air is crisp with freshness, and the sun is radiating at a perfect temperature of 62 degrees. The coast is a 6-minute drive away, and this is the perfect day to take a short journey to the rocky shore and splash in the water. However, there is one problem, an action such as driving to the beach front will almost certainly contribute to the destructive effects of climate change. Due to this claim, is it then morally obligatory to not go on this Sunday morning drive in an effort to prevent greenhouse gas emissions?
According to Johnson (2010), the issue of climate change has been hotly debated from two main viewpoints: that global warming has resulted from human activity on the one hand; and that it is a myth resulting from flawed research and unverified scientific findings. Those who hold the former view accuse those of the latter persuasion that they are concerned more with perpetuating the fossil fuel industry than creating a safe environment for future human generations. The other side, in turn, are of the opinion that the public is far too susceptible to believe whatever they are told as soon as the scientific label is placed on it. Because of these two widely divergent opinions, the issue has been shrouded in uncertainty for many, with a third group believing that global warming does exist, but that human activity is not necessarily the main culprit. This opinion holds that natural events such as volcanic activity creates far more heat and greenhouse effects than human activity could hope to achieve. Hence, this group holds that there is little that can be done about what is essentially a natural process.
Who is involved with the climate change in California? Humans, corporations, electricity generators, petroleum refineries facilities, oil and gas production, hydrogen plants, and cogeneration. What part of the country is exactly doing the most damage? Long Beach - Los Angeles, CA. How many people are affected, according to official records? People who are residences in California, are the one who are most affected. Mostly the general people, who is in the radius of climate change. For example Sacramento, California is lacking rain which is causing lots of wildfires. Why is this issue so clearly unfair? The reason why climate change is so unfair, is because of the aftermath it causes due to our everyday activities. For example California is
Humans are egotistical. They want to make sure that they are noticed and that the attention is focused on them. Of course it happens unintentionally most of the time but, when it does happen it is at the most extreme level. For as long as humans have been on Earth, this and past generations have been destroying our home. Not just by the physical appearance though. All aspects of Earth have been at least altered by humans, including the climate. Climate change is becoming one of the fastest growing problems that the world is facing. Once one thing changes, it causes a ripple effect creating complications for Earth and everything that is part of Earth. If this problem is not fixed soon, the Earth as we know it will be forever changed.
