Part 1 The first issue that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton disagree on is abortion. Let us take a look at Mr. Trump’s position on this topic. He is quoted as saying, “Public funding of abortion providers is an insult to people of conscience at the least and an affront to good governance at best” (Trump). He believes that “life is the most fundamental right.” Donald Trump actively opposes Planned Parenthood and disapproves of using government funds to pay for abortions. He is opposed to abortion except for rape, incest, and in cases where the life of the mother may be compromised. He would like to defund Planned Parenthood and make abortions illegal at 20 weeks unless the life of the woman is in danger by signing into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Hillary Clinton’s view of abortion differs immensely from that of Donald Trump. She has said that as president, she’ll stand up for Planned Parenthood and women’s access to critical health services, including safe, legal abortion. She believes that “government has no business in the decisions that women make with their families in accordance with their faith and medical advice” (Lafrance). Clinton advocates for partial birth abortion as well as late term abortion in an instance where the pregnancy is threatening the life of the mother. She would like to implement taxpayer funding of abortion and repeal the
Clinton stated “Politicians have no business interfering with women's personal health decisions. I will oppose efforts to roll back women's access to reproductive health care, including Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. As president, I'll stand up for Planned Parenthood and women’s access to critical health services, including safe, legal abortion.” This really gave me a reaction because I agree with Hillary 100%. All woman should be able to make their own personal health decisions without feeling like they have to do something illegal.
One of the most contentious issues in America, abortion, is still discussed on a daily basis. Women should be able to make their own decision with their bodies because it involves their bodies, health, and futures. Conversely, one of America’s presidential candidates wants to repeal Roe v. Wade, which allows women to make their own intimate decision. In one of his recent speeches, Donald Trump states that women who seek abortion should be subject to “some form of punishment” (Flegenheimer, et al.). Trump was highly criticized for making this statement, but he continued to mention that ripping a baby out of the womb on the last day of pregnancy is immoral. Trump seems to misunderstand that most abortions happen during the first trimester of
Abortion is a controversial debate in the United States that divides the nation and still plays a significant role at election time. The Democratic Party supports abortion rights and keeping elective abortions legal because they believe in the privacy and equality of women. They believe that a woman must have the right to choose regardless of her ability to pay. “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade.”1 For example, Bernie Sanders, as a Democratic candidate, said, "I happen to believe that it is wrong for the government to be telling a woman what to be doing with her own body."2 On the other hand, Republicans say the unborn child has a fundamental right to live and they support a human life amendment to the Constitution. They believe that Roe v. Wade should be overturned and abortions should not be legal.3 Donald Trump, as a Republican candidate, has suggested that if abortion is criminalized, women should receive some type of punishment if they secure an abortion. The President of the United States can has many effects on federal abortion policy. Most important of all, the President has the power to appoint justices to the United States Supreme Court. For instance, Obama and Clinton appoint justices who will uphold the present abortion laws that allow abortions. Also, the President may sign or veto legislation related to abortion like President Bush has signed “the Partial-Birth Abortion
“I will defend Planned Parenthood. I will defend Roe v. Wade and I will defend women's rights to make their own healthcare decisions.” -Hillary Clinton
While Planned Parenthood offers cancer screening, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted infection testing, contraception, and more, the safe and legal abortion service they provide is typically the highlight of conversation (Sexual Health Topics - Planned Parenthood). It is interesting to compare the Democratic candidates to the Republican candidates on this subject. Mr. Sanders and Mrs. Clinton wish to fight to continue Planned Parenthood’s government funding. In fact, Mr. Sanders hopes to find a way to expand the funding (Fighting For Women’s Rights). On the other hand, Mr. Trump, and Mr. Cruz wish to end the Planned Parenthood funding. Donald Trump has expressed some mixed thoughts regarding the funding and abortion. Mr. Trump believes that Planned Parenthood has done “very good work for millions of women," (Krieg). However, Mr. Trump has also said, “But Planned Parenthood should absolutely be defunded. I mean if you look at what’s going on with that, it’s terrible” (Donald Trump: “Planned Parenthood Should Absolutely Be De-Funded”). Quite frankly, I think Mr. Trump is confused. It is clear that he wishes to defund Planned Parenthood due to the abortion service provided even though he recognized the majority of work Planned Parenthood does for millions of women (Krieg). Jill Stein has not publicly commented on Planned Parenthood’s government funding; however, she did comment on the organization’s decision to endorse Mrs. Clinton (Sheer). Planned Parenthood has personally influenced my life. I work in the education branch of Planned Parenthood as a high school sexual health peer educator. In my opinion, the work Planned Parenthood does deserves and requires government funding which is why I would vote for the Democrat candidates when considering this
Hillary Clinton explains in her campaign that she believes it is the mothers right to make decisions based on her health with the consult of her family, faith and doctor. Also, she will defend access towards affordable contraception and safe and legal abortion. I firmly agree and believe this is important to Hillary Clinton’s campaign because it shows that Mrs. Clinton is advocating that pro-choice lifestyles are not all about killing the child, pro-choice is about allowing the mother to have a choice if there was no other option that could fit her lifestyle appropriately. For example, the mother could’ve been raped and not want to bring a child into the world believing that the world is full of hatred or not wanting to put the child in adoption care units allowing that child to ever think why did he or she end up here. Secondly, Hillary Clinton would allow mothers the chance at Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood gives advice to the mothers regarding the different scenarios that mother has in regards to her child. Also, Planned Parenthood allows the mothers to discuss any further problems they might be dealing with including fertility problems and allows the mothers the rights on when and how they would like to conceive a child in regards of fertility issues. In Hillary Clinton’s campaign
Planned Parenthood focuses on the aspects of healthcare that relate to the sexual aspect of it, in that it focuses on STD prevention, access to abortion so that they can be performed legally and safely, and they focus on cancer screening and prevention. I side with all of these aspects in that I believe it is beneficial to the American Society to provide such services through Planned Parenthood services so that the American people can remain healthy, exercise their rights, and further the advancements in the medical sciences through the Steam Cell research that comes from abortions. On the Republican Party I side with many of their views, some being their views on Crime, stating that, according to On the Issues (2012), “Criminals behind bars cannot harm the public” and their views on the environment, stating that, “Conservation is a conservative value, but balance economics.” This means that the environment is important but needs to be conserved at a rate that is also beneficial economically, which is what I fully stand by. However, there are other views that I do not side with in a republican view. Some being their views on abortion, with them wanting to ban it with a constitutional amendment. I also disagree with their views on Marijuana, although I personally don’t smoke or intake it I can still see it’s benefits economically and socially (in that it will benefit many people in
Wade. She believes women should have that right to either terminate or proceed with a pregnancy. Not surprisingly, Trump is against abortion; however, he supports it if a woman is raped, incest or danger during pregnancy. He says he will try to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Trump also states that woman who abort should be punished in some way. Trump will also make sure Planned Parenthood receives no funding.
To what extent are the Democratic party and the Republican party’s stances on abortion different, and how is this seen in the 2016 party platforms? Abortion is a major political issue where both the Democratic and Republican parties have very different beliefs. The Democratic party believes strongly in pro-choice, whereas the Republican party believes in pro-life. This is, in part, because of the beliefs of the American people and is one of the major issues that determine how the people vote and what party they fall under. There is the belief of pro-life, which is defined in the Cambridge Dictionary as: the belief that it is immoral for a woman that is pregnant to have the right to choose to have an abortion if she does not want to have the baby. Pro-choice is defined in the Cambridge Dictionary as: the belief that a woman who is pregnant has the right to choose to have an abortion if she does not want to have the baby. At first glance, it is apparent that these two major components on abortion are polar opposites. However, there is a myriad of differences in regards to this issue that lie further under the surface and will be stated to explain how the two major parties truly differ when discussing abortion.
In the discussion of the legality of abortion, there are many points mentioned about the morality surrounding the situation, such as religion, morals, physical health, and even economics. Although both cases in the defense and support of abortion were compelling, Wendy Davis made the more convincing argument. Davis was most persuasive because she mentions the abuse of power as a corrupt way of trying to control women’s health and the disruption of trust in the doctor-patient relationship. Yet, she fails to acknowledge more details surrounding abortion, special cases and common ground, which could have made her argument more appealing to the opposing side of the bill.
I will oppose efforts to roll back women's access to reproductive health care, including Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. As president, I'll stand up for Planned Parenthood and women’s access to critical health services, including safe, legal abortion.” The fact is that she says that abortion is safe, how is it safe? Its killing a helpless being, if you were to fall down some stairs, and ruptured your spine, doing so caused damage to some nerves including the ones that give you the ability to talk and respond, your family decides that taking care of you is more of a hassle than to have you murdered, you can’t do anything to stop it and have no choice in the matter, how is that different? If you don’t want to have a child, don’t have sex, and if you do then use protection, it’s not the baby’s fault that the father didn’t pay $7.50 for a pack of condoms. Trump believes that abortion is not right, he said at one point he was prochoice but more recently has said he was no longer
Throughout the their article “Donald Trump, Abortion Foe, Eyes ‘Punishment’ for Women, Then Recants” by Matt Flegenhiemer and Maggie Haberman analyzed Donald Trump recent comments the he made recently about his feelings about abortion. While I wasn’t surprised to hear this come out of Donald Trump mouth, I was slightly surprised of the reaction that came out of it. Especially from his opposing candidates and anti abortion settlements. I did find it interesting that his opposing candidates had something to say against it, even though all of the Republican candidates are strongly pro-life. So that does that even make a case? Not really.
Hillary Clinton introduced a revolutionary bill in 2007 that would have positively transformed the lives of low income women by modifying the social security act to include contraceptive coverage. The S. 1075-Unintended Pregnancy Reduction Act of 2007 was a bill sponsored by Hillary Clinton, intended “to amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to expand access to contraceptive services for women and men under the Medicaid program, help low-income women, and couples in preventing unintended pregnancies and reducing abortion”(S.1075 - Unintended Pregnancy Reduction Act of 2007). Unfortunately, despite Clinton 's vigorous attempts, the bill failed to pass and died in committee. Hillary Clinton’s purpose behind this bill was to have Medicaid pay for contraceptives in order to cut down on the amount of abortions among lower income women. Hillary Clinton has publicly established herself as pro-choice, supporting woman’s choice to take control of their bodies. Furthermore Clinton stated she will “defend women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions” (Lafrance). This bill was much more than just a reproductive rights bill; this bill in a sense unleashed women from the shackles of control, giving them the freedom to have control over their lives.or once they would be in control instead of being controlled.
On Hillary Clinton’s campaign website, she outlines a number of issues affecting America and explains her position on each issue. Specifically, under “Women’s Rights and Opportunities”, Clinton states that she will fight for paid maternity leave, protect and expand the Affordable Care Act put forth by the Obama administration, protect women’s health and reproductive rights and lastly, pledges that she will proudly stand with Planned Parenthood in support for women’s medical procedures and reproductive
President Donald Trump. President Trump is pro-life and anti-abortion. He believes that we should stop government aid for women to make getting an abortions so accessible, instead only aid certain cases of abortion. Trump inter acts with the other branches of government such as the house of representatives, the Senate, and he assigns supreme court justices. he spreads his views through the use of social media, mainly twitter, and by use of executive
