In today’s society the majority of the crimes are still being committed by people who have possessed a firearm that has been obtained illegally or without proper permits. That being said there has been a strong push for gun control because of the rise of shootings involving a large group of people such as the Columbine massacre, Virginia Tech shooting and latest Aurora movie theater shooting involving people who have purchased firearms legally. Gun control laws in the United States have been established for many years but to maintain a civilized society with limited crime stronger control laws need to be enforced in which will help reduce crime in our country. Gun control will reduce police deaths, lower the number of murders, and reduce the number of accidental deaths due to firearms. In many situations, police officers have died at the hands of civilians with firearms. If the civilians did not have firearms fewer officers would have been killed. Gun control would lower the murder rate because it would be more difficult for someone to get a gun and then stand 100 yards away and shoot. If guns aren't readily available, people would have more time to think about what they are doing so they might stop. Accidental deaths occur each year due to firearms. If access to firearms was more controlled, then those deaths would not happen therefore cutting the accidental death rate.

The pro gun control debate is sided by the more liberal organizations. Whether they are conspicuously discernible organizations for gun control, or even just more liberal news sources, be sure you ken their political standing afore taking their data as whole truth. “The United States of America has one of the most highest homicide rates than just about any other developed country around the world, and it also has much more civilian ownership.” (Verbruggen). This is a good thing that we have freedom to have our firearms and protect ourselves from danger, however this can also be bad because letting citizens have so much freedom to buy firearms can lead to shootings in which they have. Say a person who has not committed any crimes yet, goes into an ammunition and firearms store, and purchases an automatic assault rifle with a high capacity magazine. It is not hard for a person to grab a regular pistol and go out shooting innocent civilians, however, it is less likely that they will kill as many people as they can with an automatic assault rifle.
