Suicide can sometimes feel like the only way to pacify the pain. It is as if something is eating away parts of you slowly and intently and the only way to relieve the constant pain, is to die. Tiffany Hunter and Pierre L’errant are two very different characters with both equally unique yet queer personalities. Although Pierre and Tiffany are not the best of friends, their contrasting characteristics somehow complement each other. They both have similarities in their plans of suicide as well as differences that help them make the correct decision on where they want their life to go in future. Although they both made different decisions at the end, they assisted each other to settle on the right choice. Drew Hayden Taylor develops a theme of despondency and isolation from peers and loved ones in the novel “The Night Wanderer.” Tiffany and Pierre had many similar attributes that helped them make the right decision on whether or not to keep living. First off, they were both grieving. Tiffany was grieving over finding out her mother abandoned her for a white boyfriend and a child to replace her. Hearing that not only her mother had a new life and completely deserted her and her father, but she did not even want Tiffany to be a part of her life anymore. When Tiffany was miserable and in need of a safe haven to run away to, she called her mom to ask if she could stay with her, but her mom responded with “Tiffany, I'm going to have a baby. But I don't want you to think…” (Taylor,

Essentially a monologue set within a frame, this poem creates two personae. The anonymous author gives a brief introduction and conclusion. The Wanderer, an aging warrior, who roams the world seeking shelter and aid. The Wanderer’s monologue divides into two distinct parts, the first being a lament for his exile and the loss of kin, friends, home, and the generosity of his king. In nature, he finds absolutely no comfort, for he has set sail on the winter stricken sea. Poignantly, the speaker dreams that he is among his companions, and embracing his king, only to awaken facing the gray, winter sea, and snowfall mingled with hail.

Richard Ramirez is an infamous serial murderer who terrorized Los Angeles, California in 1985. The media gave him the name the “Night Stalker” when he was on his vicious rampage of forcing himself into the homes of his victims late at night and committing his heinous crimes. Though he was only convicted of thirteen murders, he had many more victims. His crimes were so random, disorganized, and impulsive that the law enforcement officials of Los Angeles had no luck finding Ramirez for months as he grew increasingly more violent. (Tripod.com, 2012) Finally, in August of 1985, the police had enough information from many of his victims to release a sketch of him to the media. The sketch had only been on the news for one
Ready Player One hits some of the same situations as in the holocaust or for the book that we read “Night” like taking people spread out over a good area and combining them into a small dense area. They both also touch on the topic of how when someone is killed or something is blown up now one raises an eyebrow or if they do no one does anything about it.
“Loneliness is a common emotion when someone feels alone, separated from others or unsupported and distressed” (Kennedy). A common occurrence of many great authors is to make a theme regarding loneliness or isolation for example, “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Yellow Wallpaper”. “The Fall of the House of Usher”, comparatively speaking, is a very challenging read for most, whereas “The Yellow Wallpaper” is more of a relaxed read. There are many differences between “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Yellow Wallpaper”, however, there is a common occurrence that links the two, loneliness. Throughout the two short fiction pieces both characters, Roderick Usher from “The Fall of the House of Usher and Jane from “The Yellow Wallpaper”, are isolated from the outside world, both characters have an illness that keeps them in isolation, and both characters in some way turn to a form of literature to pass time . All of these aspects contribute significantly to loneliness.
For such a small word, “Family,” can mean so much. In a dictionary one may read family as people with common ancestors, but a true family is people who stick together and support one another at any cost. Both books, Night by Elie Wiesel, and, Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand display the theme of family relationships throughout the story.
The novel “Night” is a vivid representation of a man’s loss of faith from the beginning to the end of the catastrophic era in which this book takes place. As a young boy Elie’s inquisitive mind directed him to the synagogue where he would study the Kabbalah’s revelations and mysteries. Here is where “Moishe the beadle,” a friend to Elie, would sit with him in the synagogue and they would talk for hours about the intriguing secrets of Jewish mysticism. One important piece of advice that Moishe told Elie was, “There are a thousand and one gates allowing entry into the orchard of the mystical truth.” This simply meant he would need to pursue these answers on his own. However, Elie believed Moishe would help him bind his questions and answers as well, into one. These meetings were interrupted when Moishe was extracted from the Sighet where he experienced malice.
When Papa says this things been a long time coming, T.J. just triggered it, I think it mean that the night men were going to come but T.J. made them come even earlier than expected. I think this because people haven't accepted that everyone is equal and segregation isn’t right. T.J. was not the only one who killed the man and stole things, R.W. and Melvin did to, but they wore stockings over their face to look black. Even if R.W. and Melvin weren't wearing the stockings they wouldn't have gotten as much trouble as T.J. because they are white. No one could kill or sentence them to a chain gang back then because if you did their racist father would call the Night Riders or kill you. I know that the Night Riders also known as the KKK did horrible things to people, T.J. was no exception. R.W. and Melvin father was one of the ones hurting T.J. and his family, so clearly they were also teaching their children to do the same. Hanging out with these kids, T.J. had it coming getting in trouble because his so called friends were racist and just using T.J., just like their father. He should have realized that, but he didn't, and things didn't end up going well for T.J.
Before Night Falls tells the story of Reinaldo Arenas, a Cuban writer who suffered for many years and dealt with tragic circumstances all throughout his life. Living during Fidel Castro’s harsh regime as a homosexual male led to several years of torture, for he was imprisoned, but ultimately set free. Additionally, his writing was bold and went against everything that Castro represented, and he took extreme risks to get his work published in other countries. The world heard the prolific voice of Arenas, while the Cuban government, his fellow writers, and even his lovers tried to silence him. Arenas was an extremely important figure in Latin culture. This is not simply because his work was profound; his life gives us a deeper look at the difficulties of struggling with homosexuality, masculinity, and finding freedom. He embodies resilience, charisma, determination, and at the same time fragility, weakness and pain.

In Anne Fleche’s critical analysis essay, "Long Day's Journey into Night: The Seen and the Unseen," I can find that her views on the motives of the Tyrones’ are parallel to mine. The opening sentence of her essay is, “The characters in Long Day's Journey into Night find themselves creating a new kind of religion, in which they experience, not sin without guilt, but guilt without sin--the habit of belief without its antecedent [preceding event]” (Fleche). In other words, the characters are recognizing the painfulness of their pasts, no matter how significant the event was. Each of the four family members, Edmund, James, James Jr., and Mary Tyrone, are dealing with their own painful disclosures, ranging from Mary’s morphine addiction relapse to Edmund’s realization that he has tuberculosis and must enter a sanatorium. These revelations add up over time and it seems as if the family is going to fall apart because of doubts and lack of remedies for their struggles.
Tiffany is a sixteen-year-old Native girl who lives in Otter Lake with her Granny Ruth and grumpy father Keith. Pierre is a strange man who lives in the basement of Tiffany's house. He looks like he is in his twenties, but actually he is more than four hundred years old. Pierre is not a human being, but a vampire. The Long Time Traveler is a tired person who travels away from home and wants to find another place to lay his body down. Tiffany is similar to the Long Time Traveler in that her gladsome memories fade away and she has the thought of dying. Pierre is a Long Time Traveler as well because he travels far away from home and he misses the care and love of his family and friends.
