Due to limited finances, many of Washington D.C.’s minority students do not have equal opportunities in education. The public education campaign plans to promote minority education and engage the entire Washington D.C. community in the education process to present a comprehensive, engaging, affordable program and create far-reaching opportunities for minority students. To keep track of the goals and objectives, the campaign will use different methods to evaluate the success and/or failure of the campaign. METRICS AND EVALUATION Tom Watson and Paul Nobel (2007) believe, A PR campaign can be evaluated “mainly through media monitoring and level of interest and focus on the client company.” (p.10). We will evaluate the effectiveness of these goals and objectives in a timely fashion, by measuring and evaluating results. We will keep track of all the materials used and the number distributed to reach the target publics. Overall, these tactics aim to target specific publics, such as students, parents, schools officials, DCPS policymakers, educators, and non-minorities students and parents. Even though students will primarily be targeted via the social media campaign, all publics have the potential to be reached by means of Twitter and Facebook. Social media is a great tactic because it will allow us to reach a wider audience and have this topic ‘trending’ from the campaign’s initiation to its end. Many free internet sites can provide tools to evaluate the results of a goal or
Throughout the history of public education, there have been barriers to the equality of opportunity philosophy. Thomas Jefferson’s proposal and Horace Mann’s implementation of public schools excluded non-citizens like blacks, women, and Native Americans. Next, an increase in immigration and industrialization widened cultural and economic differences between students. The greatest obstacle to equal education
New York City consists of five boroughs, Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. The borough that I reside in is Brooklyn. Brooklyn has approximately 2.592 million people inhabiting this district and approximately 23.4 percent of individuals who reside in Brooklyn, NY come from a low-income household or in other words come from poverty. With catholic and private schools being expensive, people have to rely on the education system to provide their children with a good education. In this paper I will be discussing the public school education system ranging solely up to high school in Brooklyn New York and giving a general idea of the New York education system as well.
In Chapter 1 of Spring, the author discusses the goals of public education and whether or not those goals have been met. The chapter is divided into sections. These sections include Political Goals of Schooling, Censorship & American Political Values, Courts & Political Values, and Political Values & State & National Curriculum Standards. Each section the author makes a claim about public education.
Today, education enables us to enlarge our knowledge and open doors for opportunities to the path of having a good future. In the five readings, each written by a different author, there was a lesson learned and something to take away from each one. Reading through the passages by Mann, Moore, Malcolm X, Gatto, Rose, and Anyon, each author contributed his or her point of view on general public education. This topic can be very argumentative depending on the quality of education people receive. Education today is the single most important mean for individuals to achieve their personal goals in the workforce.
In my diagnostic essay I wrote about the issues towards education and education reforms. I strongly believe that there needs to be a change in the educational system because it is corrupt. The fact that people are required to pay thousands of dollars or take out loans that put them in debt for years is absurd. Many students are forced to take out loans that put them in debt for years. It also concerns me that low income youths do not have that much of an option, and cannot afford an education. Online, I found an article on Republicanviews.org stating democratic and republican views on education and education reforms. The information in this article states the problems that I ponder the next president and Congress should focus on. This includes reforming financial aid programs for college tuition, creating more teaching jobs and expanding education options for low-income youth. This is one of the biggest challenges that the United States are facing today.
There is an abundance of importance in the public school system. Most successful careers start with elementary, middle and high school education. So it is safe to say it is vital to maintain a major funding for all public school’s systems across the country. Of course funding isn’t the only broken piece of a perfect school system because not every school is in an appropriate environment. There are many factors that follow what type of funding each school gets and also how much. Many schools are placed in low income or areas in poverty, this causes students to have harder learning environments. The question is what would be a strategy to fix the gap in public school funding and where and how do you spend it? This could be solved by smart public school allocation, better pay structure for
The social media campaigns of the Canadian Federal Political Parties (Liberal, Conservative, and NDP) have been compared to one another in an attempt to understand their choices made to persuade audiences to take part in actively addressing and supporting their campaigns. Concepts discussed throughout this course have been applied to the three varying campaigns, including attention, earned media, branding, spreadability, intended audience, tone, navigation, and participation. These aspects have been prominent in all three social media campaigns and thus, have been chosen for this case analysis.
While discussing this issue, it is crucial to focus on helping those of “low-income kids, English-language learners, and kids with disabilities the support they need to thrive” by raising the standard of education that these students are receiving to the same level as their higher-class counterparts (“Hillary Clinton on K-12 Education”). By improving the public schools that these minority students attend, there is higher the possibility that these students will continue on to higher education
The American public educational system is filled with an assortment of problems. Most students are graduating with less knowledge and capability than similar students in other industrialized countries. Classroom disruptions are surprisingly common, and in some classrooms, nearly continuous. The public education system is having difficulty adjusting to the no child left behind act. The No Child Left Behind(NCLB) is a landmark in education reform designed to improve student achievement and change the culture of American’s schools.
“The communication program will target whom, to help them understand, believe, or do what, by informing them of messages, through messengers and channels, to result in objectives” (Cheesebro, T., O’Connor, L., & Rios, F., 2010, Ch. 5). The objective of utilizing the campaign method would reach out the larger population through possibly multiple different media methods, instead of just one or two. When considering using different types of media and which ones to include and exclude when communicating through media, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of traditional, electronic, and social media.
Since 1983 public education has been an issue in America. The system has been constantly changing every year with reforms. This constant change has been driven by the American people’s perception that education has declined and something should be done about it. First there was an increased emphasis on basic skills, making school years longer and more graduation requirements. Second, many began focusing on increasing teachers professionalism. Third, they began restructuring many things such as how the schools were organized and how the school day was structured etc. Now today the most of the American people believe that not enough money is given to public schooling. They associate academic improvement with the money the school is funded.
Education is an issue that touches everyone’s lives in one way or another. Whether you are a parent, student, teacher, taxpayer, or employee, the effects of education on society can be seen everyday. For this reason, public schools are a top concern among political leaders. Over the past twenty-five years, confidence in the nation’s public school system has dramatically declined. While the public for the most part seems to support their school district, criticism is not lacking. Recent years especially have shown dissipating support. It appears that the prevailing view is that public education, as a whole, is in bad condition and is in need of a renewed effort to fix it. Private schools seem to fare

The United States prides itself on its public education system making it a core value of many families. The level of education a person has will influence their career achievements. Americans expect their public system of education to provide a solid curriculum. Most of the people in the United States place their trust in the public school system in which they support through taxes. This trust although is contradicted by the public system of education’s current shape. Much of the schools in the United States are either deteriorating, or failing all together. The drawbacks of public education create an unhealthy environment for student learning.
John Keating, a student at Welton Academy inspired his fellow classmates, to meet in caves and read challenging poetry of the past, not with flashcards, but with these words, “Now, my class, you will learn to think for yourselves again. You will learn to savor words and language. No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.” Typically, students do not hear enough of this type of passion in a traditional classroom. However, a progressive classroom, be it a cave or college can inspire students to memorize facts, not because they have to, but rather because they want to for the betterment of humanity. Society desperately needs students educated in a progressive style because America needs students who realize
