Emily Braley Mr. Tracy, Mr. Tureff IB History 15 Dec. 2015 Which countries should become immediate members of the league of nations or at some point thereafter? In the Treaty of Versailles, the League of Nations was to be comprised of countries who were dedicated to preserving and nurturing international peace; hence members were selected based on their perceived ability to carried out this mission and many of the Allies were given the opportunity to join from the beginning. Countries such as Germany and Russia were deemed unfit to be part of the League of Nations and therefore were not immediately allowed into the League upon its establishment. Germany, who, as a punishment for being the primary aggressor in the war, was excluded from the international community and did not join the league of nations until 1926. The territory that was formerly known as Russia was never allowed to join the League of Nations; however, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was able to join in 1934. In our simulated discussion, it was understood that the League of Nations was established to promote peace; therefore our class generally seemed to follow in the footsteps of the actual conference; yet, there were some noteworthy differences. To begin, Germany was be granted entrance into the League one year after signing the treaty.
