Introduction
I am looking at Topshop for this report. Topshop is a very large British fashion store for young women selling fashion clothes, shoes and accessories. There are Topshop stores throughout the UK. The flagship store in London Oxford Street is the biggest fashion store in Europe. Topshop is part of the Arcadia group which owns other fashion stores such as Miss Selfridge and Warehouse. Topshop mainly sells its own brand products but in larger stores it has concessions of other more expensive similar clothes. As well as selling Topshop clothes in Topshop store, they have concessions in large department stores such as Selfridges. They also have a website where you can buy a lot of the Topshop range including shoes and clothes for

This makes the card holder feel more special and they will probably spend quite a lot of money if they attend these evenings.
Consumer environment.
Depending on the time of day you go into Topshop depends on the types of people you would see in there. In the week in the morning the shop is normally quite empty, the only people you would see in there are young women who are probably unemployed or students. These people probably will not buy much but will stay in the store for a while. If you go in to Topshop at lunch time it will be busier and will have young professionals who are just popping in on their lunch break. These people probably already know what they are going to buy and so will just buy it then leave. At weekends the store is a lot busier, it is full of all sorts of people who will probably all spend quite a while in the shop trying things on and then buying.
All Topshop stores look very similar when you walk in, you will know you are in a Topshop store. There are always pictures of the latest fashions on the walls. There are also a lot of things to look at instantly when u walk in whether it is accessories or the latest fashions. For example in the London Oxford Street flagship the floor you walk in on is full of accessories and so it is very colourful and exciting especially compared to the dull, busy street outside. All Topshops are very brightly lit but the walls are normally white and the pictures are often black and white. I
The store associates are dressed in the season's latest looks marketing to the incoming customers. The music is blasting with a bohemian and beachy tunes, which parents may not appreciate but it was what makes the adolescents happy. The store appeals to your senses all in order to make you buy more. I find my friends and me drooling over all the new clothes in stock. But after reading Gladwell's “Consuming Passion” I began making connection in my own life. There is a reason why as soon as I walk into the store I have the overwhelming urge to buy everything in the store, or at least try everything I see. The way they layout the all the clothes in the table it's not a mistake they are simply encouraging the feel of being at home and radiating a comfortable feeling so their customers can relax, touch the clothing, and spend more money. If the conditions are right the customer will be able to buy anything. The stores uses colors to appeal to the sense of sight of the customers a feeling of happiness which would cause them to shop more. However my favorite conditions of all times are clearance because I love a great deal. When you see the signs outside the store saying the sales are here yet again or when you get an email with special coupon always gives me a sense of
In Primark you get the feeling that it is a big supermarket with busy corridors.
Topshop was founded in 1964 in Sheffield within the ladies fashion store chain Peter Robinson Ltd. The first official stand alone store was opened in 1974, followed by Topman being introduced in 1978 exclusively for male customers. Topshop has over 300 stores in the UK and over 100 stores internationally and has a flagship store in both London andn New York. It is part of the Arcadia Group which also owns Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Miss Selfridge.
Through observing the fast pace shoppers inside the stores, I have noticed some details about the shopping ritual that sparked my interest. The bigger the store was, the more individuals went in the store. For example, Dillards which has a variety of different style of clothes, cosmetics, shoes, and items for both men and women of any age. Because these types of stores have more of a variety, individuals are more drown to this aspect to receive more options. Also, I noticed that individuals automatically go to the sale rack or section. For example, H&M and American Eagle both had large red signs in there stores to indicate a sale. This section was more crowded than any
Competitive Rivalry. Retailers always face stiff competition. The slow market growth for the retail market means that firms must fight each other for market share. More recently, they have tried to reduce the cutthroat pricing competition by offering frequent points, memberships and other special services to try and gain the customer's loyalty.
Walking into a second hand shop is intimidating to a new shopper due to all the different clothes and styles everywhere. It may get overwhelming, if someone goes with not having a certain couple of items in mind, then they will start to not look through things thoroughly. Having a specific idea or item in mind makes all the difference in bargain shopping. Driving to the store and looking for any and everything will cause quick scanning what I call skimming. Skimming in a thrift shop is a recipe for disaster. It is a guarantee of not finding anything due to not putting in the effort to check out what the store has to offer. The essence and specialty of a thrift shop is that it has items not many other stores have. There is a guarantee to find
Before I start I would like to explain the layout of the store. Once walking in the store straight ahead you can see the merchandise a little further inside towards the middle of the store passing by the checkout a little to the left. On the right of the store, you can see the security guy and right next to him you can see the shoe area. To the right of the entrance you can see the checkout area and a little further you can see all the handbags and luggage. Behind
For the draw backing for in-store shopping is; you do spend hours looking for the right product or in the lines trying to just purchase it. Or listening to all the people around you and all the additional noises you hear in stores. Not to mention stores have set hours on when you can shop and when you can not, this is something which can change with a sign on the door.
