7) Schwalbe continues to use this definition with an analogy of the human body. Here she describes how the human body is a system containing many subsystems. She stresses the importance of using such a philosophy to understand how projects relate to the whole organization. Accordingly, in this project, this same approach is used. The first step will be to look at the goals of the project, and align them with the mission of the company. Systematically, the project will be broken into phases: Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Coordinating, Budgeting, Evaluating, and Reporting. Each phase will be further broken down into tasks and placed into a work breakdown structure. From this view, one is able to see the entire project duration, critical path, and milestones. The Planning phase is integral in any project. This phase of the project defines project objectives, mission, goals, and approach. In addition, outlining key elements of the project is critical: performance expectations, risks analysis, and contingency plans. However, after completion

Project management is short term; it has a beginning, an end, and has identified steps to take throughout the process. The steps of project management are as follows: proposal, initial investigation, detailed investigation, development and testing, trial, operation and closure, as well as, the evaluation. There are measurable benefits to using project management within an organization for certain key objectives or processes that need
The planning process begins with a situation analysis of the external and internal forces affecting the organization. This examination helps identify and diagnose issues and problems and may bring to the surface alternative goals and plans for the firm. Next, the advantages and disadvantages of these goals and plans should be evaluated against one another. Once a set of goals and a plan have been selected, implementation involves communicating the plan to employees, allocating resources, and making certain that other systems such as rewards and budgets are supporting the plan. Finally, planning requires instituting control systems to monitor progress toward the goals.
We will begin this process by identifying the project life cycle and assigning the workload to each phase in the project. All project objectives will be evaluated to develop a strategy to effectively achieve the desired objective.
After getting started in the company and performing and tasking with the co-workers, My next step will be Monitoring and Controlling the project. Monitoring includes collecting, measuring and defining the project management plan. Monitoring and Controlling is something that current status of your project after Initiation, planning and execution. In this period I will have to translate the project execution data form the gathering requirements to the client needs.
During project planning, project teams complete the bulk of their planning work preparing the functional specification and solution design and preparing work plans, cost estimates, and schedules for the various deliverables which they roll up into a master project plan and master schedule. Project planning follows envisioning and is kicked off after the project team meets the requirements of the Vision/Scope Approved Management Review. Prior to
Our Internet based company with the gross revenues of more than $35 million dollars per year. We are planning to merge with multinational company of equal size. Our company currently uses operational systems and relational databases but desire to expand into data warehousing. We will be integrating different technologies from different solution providers and incorporate industry best practices in connection with the development of technological system.
The aim is to complete the project with the traditional sequence, following the stages from the planning stage to the completion stage. Also, more emphasis will be given to human and physical resources, which should make it easier to exploit all constraints associated with the project and making it a priority.
Depending on the ambitions of your organization, it may also make sense to add in an opportunity identification phase. Once you have set up the project chronology and timeline through a lifecycle, it is essential to define the activities, deliverables, and decisions that occur at each phase. These activities will build your process while the deliverables will be the tools that support the activities. Initiation phase – The essential tool at this stage of the project is the project charter. The charter should define the project at a high level and include the following components: Problem statement Project objectives Project goals Team leads and members Expected benefits Constraints Dependencies Planning phase – Planning is more than just listing out the tasks of a project. It is critical that the project manager answers the following questions when planning the project. What is the expected project outcome? How will the work be done? What do you expect of the project team members? Who reports to whom? When will the work be performed? Are there any costs associated with the work? Who will be affected by the change? When will the team meet? Who is required to attend the meetings? How will minutes be recorded? The work plan is the primary tool that the project manager should use during this phase. The “perfect” work plan will include all project related tasks and key milestones with
Systems thinking and project management evolved together from meeting the same challenges during the 1950s (Winch, 2010). The system approach helps to understand the complexity of the processes and the interrelationships with them. (Walker A. , 2015).
A project begins at initiation with a specific goal or task to be accomplished. In the initiation phase, we begin with a broad definition of the project, and assess its feasibility.

During the project planning phase, I can work effectively towards the development of project management subsidiary plans to execute, monitor and control and close projects. I will contribute towards the planning of the scope in assuring that the project includes all the work required and only the work required. I will do this by conducing interviews, focus group, facilitated workshops etc., I can clearly define and document stakeholder needs to meet project objectives that will be
“Project management is a series of activities embodied in a process of getting things done” (Cleland, 2007, p.51). What stages would be involved on defining the ‘series of activities’ and what needs to be ‘done’? Would a complete definition of the project and its boundaries be directly linked to the project success?
