According to article, “In a high-quality program, there is a focus on developing healthy and strong human relationships (p. 40). The program takes place in Condor Elementary School. They used the cafeteria to give them a snack, and make Woven Baskets for children in Protective Services. They had plenty of space to do their project, there were many tables and benches for them to openly do their work, as well as move around. They had a 12-child/2-teacher ratio, which facilitates the supervision of the children. They provided all the material (had plenty of them). They also had board games, plenty of art supplies, and books. In addition, they were provided with outdoor physical activities.

They had to count how many Popsicle sticks could fit around the cup.
2. They were counting how many more minutes till they got to go outside and play.
3. They were trying to figure out how much glue it will take for the stick to hold, and not slip off the cup.
4. They also move around the cups, and even put them upside down to see if the sticks would stay put.

I did not observe any math or science books available. I did see they had some calculators and rules (which they did not use).
c. Are both boys and girls equally involved in math and science experiences? Explain how you determined this.
Not in my observation. The girls are the ones that were doing the counting to figure out how many sticks could fit around. A boy told a girl “Just let me know how many you can put around, so I could do the same number of them.” However, they boys were they ones showering more interest on figuring out how much glue it would take for the sticks to stay put. They school playground it very big, and they had a lot of space and activities for them to play. I was only able to observe two play and peer interactions. They children were just too fast, and kept moving around, and I was unable to keep up with them or hear what they were saying or playing.
• Two girls were jumping rope, one side of the rope is tied up to a metal pole, and one of the girls was holding the other end, while the other girl jumped. A boy came and asked if he can play, and the girls responded at the same time “NO…. jumping rope is for girls only.” The teacher, went up and explained to the girls that, “jumping rope is for everyone. You don’t have to be a girl or a boy to play. When I was a little girl, my brother and I play this game everyday after school.” The girls apologize, and asked him to join them.
• Two boys were dribbling each a basketball. One of the boys was having a hard time doing this. The other boy was telling him “do it like this, and put it in between your legs.” The boy was unable to do it. He threw the ball and said, “I suck at this, I don’t want to play with you anymore.” The teacher came over and told the boy “that is no way to behave,” he said, “well, he can do all this tricks better than me.” She told him “If you want to be able to do all those tricks, you have to be patient, practice really hard, but most of all, never give up.” The boy smiled,
