A Date for the Theatre Mike Hello, Jack. Why the rush? Where are you going? Jack Hello, Mike. I'm on my way to meet Joyce at the station. We're having dinner at a Chinese restaurant and then we're off to the theatre. Mike Do you often go to the theatre? Jack Yes, Joyce and I usually go at least once a fortnight; sometimes more. Do you ever go? Mike Yes, but I don't often find time these days. There are so many other things to do. Jack True, true. Mike Listen, perhaps Janet and I can arrange to meet you and Joyce one Saturday evening. We can have dinner together and go on to a theatre. Jack That's a good idea. Look, I forget the name of the play, but there's a good comedy on at the Theatre Royal next week. If you like, I can book four …show more content…
Andy Yes, so his teachers say. But he deserves to do well. He's always been so conscientious and hard-working, and he's been slaving at his books every evening for months on end recently. He wants to go to Oxford University next year. Susan Maybe he'll become a university lecturer himself eventually. Andy Maybe. But I think he studies too hard; I sometimes wish he'd go out and enjoy himself for a change. Susan Yes... What about the younger one? Andy Well, James' teachers say that he has ability, but that he's too inconsistent and that he rarely does his best. In other words, he's not bad when he makes an effort, but he's too idle. He couldn't care less about exams. He does his homework in ten minutes every evening and then rushes out to play tennis. Susan He's crazy about tennis, isn't he? Perhaps he can make his fortune at it. You can make more money from sport than from an old-fashioned profession these days. Andy So I believe. But my wife always worries about the children's future. She wants James to give up tennis and study law, but I don't believe in forcing boys to take up careers they're not cut out for. I wonder how James'll develop in a couple of years' time! After the Exams Malcolm What did you think of the exams, Pete? I reckon they were dead easy. Pete Maybe they were easy enough for you but they were much too hard for me. Malcom Oh, come on. You've probably done better than you think. Pete No, I'm dead certain I've failed in
He has passed all of his internals, and showed some potential in programming and web development. All he needs to do is complete the externally assessed Computer Science report. He has done well to cope with some of the complex topics we covered this year and seems capable of a higher level of study in this subject.
James was just a little boy and he
James is confused and does not know how to choose between writing and music and also whether to identify himself as black or white. An example of him overcoming this situation is when he says “there are two worlds bursting inside me trying to get out. I had to find out who I was and in order to find out who I was, I had to find out who my mother was” (266). This is important because James wants to know what the right decision to make is. He wants to make the decision that will make him find his path in life and make him happy and successful. At the end James chooses both careers and identifies himself as biracial, which makes him feel
James however, knows what he is doing which is boxing because he is one of the best at it. James was in peak physical condition with an explosive power behind him, which he made full use of. Towards the middle of both of these stories, both Jurgis as well as James sustained cataclysmic injuries that changed their lives forever. “It transpired that he had twisted a tendon out of place, and could never have gotten well without attention” (Sinclair 121). With Jurgis’s injury, he was unable to work, but this caused an adverse effect on his health that made him weak and frail. “This time, however, Jurgis did not have the same fine confidence, nor the same reason for it. He was no longer the finest looking man in the throng, and the bosses no longer made for him; he was thin and haggard, and his clothes were seedy, and he looked miserable” (Sinclair 125). When Jurgis was finally able to return to work from his injury he was no more the biggest worker there, which meant the employers no longer bee-lined to him, and this caused a dramatic strain on income. While Jurgis suffered these problems, he stayed at home then forced two children to start
To begin with, James was doing great in school and made his parents proud by maintaining decent grades but everything changed once the tragedy of Hunter Jordan’s death occurred. James saw Jordan as a father role model and was so hurt with his death. In the book Mcbride says, “ I always thought of him as Daddy,” (Mcbride 6). James focus on school change drastically. He was doing so horrible in school that he dropped out. “ I virtually dropped out of high school after he died, failing every class,” ( 6). Hunter
His fifth grade report card showed that he demonstrates strength in all readings and spelling but is just appropriate for grade level in his writing. Jerrel also demonstrate strength in speaking, listening, content of knowledge in social studies, science and mathematical problem solving. For music and art, he is appropriate for grade level. Jerrel is demonstrating strength in most of his academic skills. I believe I am helping Jerrel with his academic skill by not letting him be complacent in his work. Like even though he is a strong reader, I still read him books, that I believe he would be interested in. We need to continue to work with his development in music and
Tennis is more than just a sport for Damien Heller-Chen, it is a lifestyle. When he was six years old, he got introduced to tennis and found it as a very enjoyable sport. Many sports are intense and competitive, which is why Heller-Chen chose tennis, as he fell in love with a less competitive sport. Heller-Chen enjoys the feeling of having control in the game. He feels empowered since he is center stage of the game and not on a team. Tennis takes dedication as he practices for eight to 14 hours a week at The Boars Head.
This type of upbringing forced him to have a mind of his own taking care of himself without his parents. The last influence on James's life was the church. Here he learned about God and the bible. James has stated that he would leave all his pain and worry to the Lord, because he was the only person that could fix his problems. The church certainly gave him the support during his developmental growth as a child. He never received that from his parents because they were not around.
Nothing happening in the present worried James more than the sake of his mother’s life. Nonetheless, young James is still angry and confused as to what his heritage is. Even though his main concern is on his mother, he still questions his identity and worries for himself. He does not know his heritage and he has no clue where he belongs. How can he hate the whites if his mother is one and how can he hate the blacks if his father is one? He is absolutely torn and perplexed. His only solution to this seems to be spending a few years on the streets drinking alcohol,
He indicated that there are times when he gets in trouble in school because he did not finish work. James stated when he is in school he can become easily distracted and does not follow the material being taught.

A: Wow! I remember when I took those exams. They were really tough. It took up all my time, just preparing for them.
James appears to be using limited cross-checking behaviours. Self-correction behaviour is nil, at least in this instance. Evidence shows he is using mostly meaning and visual cues and not drawing on structural cues. As a result of not utilising all the sources of information afforded by the text his understanding and comprehension of the text is quite limited and there is no evidence he has really connected with the text. In recent years there has been much research on reading
When I asked James this question, he confirmed that it is very hard for him to get education since acting is his main priority. Therefore James has a on-set tutor on “Kevin Can Wait” so in-between scenes he studies with his tutor which is very shocking and amazing for an 11 year old, which proves that he really is proactive, such a great kid!
In James’ case he knew that if he worked hard at school he could gain his fathers approval. However it seemed that he was in the shadow of his brother, who was also under the same pressure. He had turned to cheating to get better marks to avoid his father’s disapproval. James’ own sense of right and wrong were being clouded by his loyalty to- and competition with his brother, also his need for approval from his father and his sense of duty to protect his frail mother by “not
