Introduction I have chosen two of the biggest broadband and telecommunication companies in Ireland for this website comparison. O2 and Vodafone are both leading distributors of mobile services for individuals and corporate clients providing them with solutions in communications. They are the two biggest competitors in the mobile networking industry in Ireland constituting for 88% of the total market. This market percentage is split between Vodafone and O2, 48% and 40% respectively.
I have chosen these two websites for comparison for a number of reasons. I have been a frequent user of both sites, and am interested in the industry. The main reason however I selected these websites is due to the substantial differences in theme and

On the shop page the user will be given 4 options to browse shop by phone, browse by plan, purchase SIM only, or to go the O2 broadband section. Underneath these options again are more offers specifying O2’s current most popular deals. The most popular deals have clearly labelled prices on all of the phones. Browsing through the shop is easy, and informative. The main specifications and advantages of each product are clearly placed beside a picture of that product and the price is also clearly labelled. If you actually select the phone the user is redirected to another page which describes in depth specifications, main features and pricing plans. Some of the specifications are interactive and offer a visual 3D experience where they can rotate the phone with their mouse. This ensures that the user is confident with their purchase. In some cases, demos are available to watch how the product operates. Overall the shop provides some great interactive features and effectively utilises and takes advantage the capabilities of Adobe flash player.
One of the more interesting features of the O2 website is its partner websites. From navigating through the webpage there are often sections with links to some of O2’s separate projects. Examples of these are 02thinkbig.ie where the user is redirected to a section created to encourage young innovators. The mission statement for the O2

The generation of talking face-to-face is slowly fading away, and the technology era is going to keep on growing. One of the most widely used technology services known today is the cellular phone industry. According to the Pew Research Center’s website, 90% of American adults own a cell phone. Of that 90%, the smartphone ownership is at 64% (2013). Verizon Wireless, along with the other major carriers, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T, have taken this data and comprised a growing industry where competition arises from all angles. These companies have battled one another on pricing, plans, and customer service for many years in order to stay on top. Unfortunately, these are major factors in whether or not a customer will choose the particular company over another.
One month has to look at competition since the early 1990’s, especially since the act 1996 act. The most effective competition has come from technology evolution that enabled multiple platforms with different product-characteristics and economics to compete. They, in turn, then forced each other into cycles of further innovation. When the telecommunications act of 1996 has passed, there were hints of incipient competition in both the long-distance and video-distribution markets as a result of new technology. Local telephony was still essentially a monopoly. Although wireless was thriving, it was seen primarily as a purely mobile service.”
In this category, both companies ranked comparably. Both companies provided pertinent information on every page; and while there were differences, information was readily available on both sites.

After largely dominating the telecommunications market for a century, Telstra’s competition has recently become more widespread. In order to effectively adapt to this changing market, Telstra has employed the use of market segmentation in an attempt to
The telecommunications coverage in rural and regional areas in Australia has monopolistic characteristics. Telstra has a competitive advantage over Optus with 99.3% coverage of the population compared to Optus with a 98.5%, this is equivalent to an estimated 192,000 more potential customers. Although Telstra has this competitive advantage they claim that the revenue received from their rural base stations does not cover the cost of development and maintenance.3.
Vodafone is one of the most important players on the European telecommunications market. However, this does not mean that the company has an easy job at retaining its customers and at increasing its market share. The most important competitors of Vodafone are represented by Orange and Cosmote. The regulations in the business field determine these companies to provide similar products and services, at similar prices. Therefore, it is important that Vodafone focuses on its communications strategy in order to strengthen its position on the market.
The French telecommunication market is considered to be the largest in Europe with a valuation
In the opinion of Baumol and Blinder (2011, p. 235), "monopolistic competition is a market structure characterized by many small firms selling somewhat different products." The authors in this case further note that the output of each entity is small in comparison to the market's aggregate output of competing but closely related products. With that in mind, the mobile phone market exhibits some key characteristics of monopolistic competition. In this market, customers in need of mobile phones are presented with a wide range of options to choose from. For instance, a customer who enters a mobile phone handset shop has the option of purchasing a Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Blackberry or even an LG handset. All these products despite being closely related are also largely differentiated. As Tucker (2010, p. 268) notes, "the key feature of
In today’s telecommunication market there is a lot of competition by industry giants such as Sprint,
Just because Moonpod is a small business doesn't mean it doesn't know its web design. The site is very well done and much more informative than even the EA site-- it has to be, since the company doesn't have the money to make separate sites every time it comes up with a new game.
In this following report I will discuss the phone industry and analysed it in great detail. I will analysis the market structure and try and understand why the mobile industry falls to heavily oligopoly structure. I will highlight all the structures, however I will discuss in detail how, for example Vodafone can be incorporated in the porter’s five forces method to show how the mobile industry has devolved over the years and to understand if consumers are driven by the actual technology of the phone but if it driven more by style.

Although Vodafone are the biggest mobile network in the world, they also have their problems. As a global organisation Vodafone have learnt how to acquire customers, building up a customer base in the UK of 13 million. But, they have become far too focused on acquiring
