. Of all American institutions, the educational system has perhaps the greatest impact on the lives of ordinary people. Children gain knowledge about a standard range of subjects from English and history to mathematics and science. They also learn social skills and are exposed to different people and ideas. Educational achievement is the single largest influence on an individual’s future earning power. More than anything else, in fact, it is education that shapes a person’s future
There was a time when America’s education system was top-notch according to the culture and society. With time, a myriad of things has changed, but unfortunately what has not evolved is the American education system. The country is still following a system which was not designed for the current global economic climate. Equality, as positive as it sounds is not as sufficient when it comes to education. The system treats students equally yet expect a similar culmination and outcome. Every child has his individuality and distinct abilities; one cannot judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. Conversely, a few of the prominent reasons why the education system is failing are overcrowded schools, the rise of technology, and following the same old school hours.
America is viewed as the most advanced and developed country in the world. It owns some of the largest businesses and companies known to man. It is on top of every new technological advancement that has touched the Earth. It is the country that boasts of having the best and most efficient military in the world. The list goes on and on. And although a lot these claims made by America is true, none can doubt that this country has its fair share of flaws. A flaw in the American system is the lack of education many people receive. I am making this claim because the number of people I see in the street that are poor. These people don’t have access to quality education which prevents them from getting jobs. In the essay, I will dissect this issue
Education plays important role in society. It determines the final development of an adult’s personality. In today’s society most jobs require a University degree. To receive a University degree students need to rely on a good education system. Does America provide this? The American education system has relied on the grade point average system for a long time. The problem with this is there is not a universal GPA grade point system varying from course to course. This creates an inaccurate way to determine ones overall achievements. Teachers have different standards than others, grade inflation can occur and students can be exposed to different learning environments. Does the education system need to change to create fairness?
The American education system is obsolete. It has not changed since the late 20th century and its archaic ways are wasting the minds of the youth. Gone are the days when it achieved its true purpose of enriching the minds of its students. Now, it is hindering the development of the young people. As Botstein has stated in his essay “an institution intended for children in transition now holds young adults back…” (Source 3). What was supposed to augment teenagers’ knowledge, does the complete opposite, and makes teenagers closed minded to the world around them. Where did the educationcal system go wrong? How could this have happened? This detrimental decline in the education system is due to teachers lacking formal training, which results in
Thesis statement: The United States education system has weaknesses that should be remedied by emulating the education methods of other countries such as Finland and Japan.
“30 years ago, America was the leader in quantity and quality of high school diplomas. Today, our nation is ranked 36th in the world,” Says Do Something Org. Many people think that the American Education System is broken, and does not prepare our kids for college, and many model schools in America (and around the world) are trying to fix this problem. Students from Arab and Muslim culture will bring unique and positive qualities to our classrooms that need to be recognized and valued. Teachers have a strong influence on how comfortable a student will feel in the classroom community. I believe it is important to create an environment where students feel safe to ask questions, share their culture, be themselves, believe in what they want to believe, and be celebrated for their differences as well as similarities. I believe each culture brings forth students that have a vast array of talents and it is important to know them so that you can teach to those students accordingly.
The U.S. is commonly known for being the “best of the best” so why is our education system falling behind? According to Drew DeSilver, graduate of Columbia University with expertise in Labor Economics, he perceives that our education system is far behind other countries. Recently released data from international math and science assessments indicate that U.S. students continue to rank high, yet are “behind many other advanced industrial nations” (DeSilver). The U.S. is ranked “38th in math and 24th in science out of 71 countries” (Desilver). Furthermore, Julia Ryan, producer for The Atlantic, perceives that the U.S. education system is “mediocre compared to the rest of the world”. As it may or may not be known, education systems around the world are all comparatively very different from each other. Because countries all have different beliefs, moralities, and cultures, this can have a drastic effect on their education systems and how it is unique to their region and/or country. For example, the UK education system is very different from the American education system. Over the past several decades schooling has developed more and more in other countries, such as Finland or Switzerland, and have changed for the better. Meanwhile the American education system has, for the most part stayed constant, worsening in some ways, and improving in others. This brings up the issue of, should America switch to a more
There are big differences in lifestyle if you go to school and get an education rather than not attending or dropping out. In American and Alexandra, there are similarities between the education system. There are also similarities where you end up if you don’t attend school. There was a time period in American history where whites and blacks were segregated when they attended school and in Alexandra, the school system was similar. “School segregation almost always entails fewer education resources and lower quality for minority students” (Dalton Conley 352). Mark and his siblings were given the chance to go to school, but due to being a minority it was much more difficult to attend and afford school. Mark attended a school that taught differently
Children are the unbridled hopes and dreams of society. They embody power, ambition, and innocence. Children are the untainted saviors of the future. They are full of energy and have minds developing at a rate that is perfect for being educated. They are the future of the world. Everyone wants to invest in the future for whatever personal vendetta they may have. With the amount of emphasis on children and education it is not surprising that the processes by which the next generation is being taught has become scrutinized on many occasions. American public education has been a major issue for almost as long as it has been around. Many movements and people have tried solutions that they believe will solve the problems with the education system. Some solutions had good intentions but were not implemented well. Other solutions had little to no benefits on the system. Education has taken the back seat and allowed standardized testing to drive. American education has become a deformed and twisted system with many flaws that are in desperate need of repair.

Lifestyles differ throughout generations. It is because of several factors related to people’s behaviors, historical events, social environment, and scientific and technical progress. No matter the profession one intends to pursue, a GOOD education plays a vital role in preparing students for the future.
